Google Maps, TiVo And Netflix For Wii U Delayed

googlemaps tivo wiiu delay Google Maps, TiVo And Netflix For Wii U DelayedNow this is getting rather frustrating for Nintendo Wii U owners, as we were supposed to be on the receiving end of the TVii service when the Wii U first rolled out in the US last November. Sure, let us give the House of Mario a chance as they might have suffered from some release hiccups, but when the TVii service rolled out last month, TiVo and Netflix features were unavailable, having got stuck in some of Mario’s pipes somewhere, we presume.

Nintendo then claimed that TiVo will first hit the market sometime in January 2013, and we are already racing towards February with less than two full days on the calendar left, only to have Nintendo inform the masses that the January release date is not looking too good, and has shifted the release to sometime in “early 2013.”

As for Google Maps and Street View that were specially configured to run on the Wii U’s tablet-centric GamePad, it has also missed the January 2013 release dateline, and is now targeted for a “first quarter of 2013″ rollout. Are you bummed out by all this?

Google Forms Refreshed

google forms 640x378 Google Forms RefreshedHow has your Google Drive experience been so far? I have found it to be extremely useful when it comes to creating, storing and sharing data, and there is a whole slew of apps out there which will assist you in being more productive and on-the-go as well, ranging from making amendments to spreadsheets and to signing documents electronically. Having said that, Google has already refreshed their Google Forms platform, which did come in handy in the past to help you create questionnaires in a snap, while automatically collecting responses in a spreadsheet.

The new and refreshed Google Forms offers a “faster, cleaner, and more collaborative experience.” Similar to Docs, Sheets and Slides, you are now able to collaborate with other folks in real-time, where you and your colleagues are able to make modifications to the same form at any one time, and even chat on the side without having to leave the form. Expect the refreshed Google Forms to be introduced in the days to come, where you can create them straight from Google Sheets or Drive, or take the alternative route of installing the Chrome Web App so that you can work from your browser.

dropbox Dropbox Goes Beyond Managing Files, Announces Document Previews And Photo SharingSteve Ballmer might be dissing Dropbox as a “little startup,” but the company is at least making efforts, giant steps if I may call it, to improvement. Dropbox announced a new feature called Dropbox Documents Preview today at its headquarters in San Francisco. The new feature will basically allow users to browse or preview files in various formats (.doc, .docx, PDFs, PowerPoint files), saving you the worry of having to download the wrong file. Unfortunately, Microsoft Excel files are not supported for now. Users will be able to view a pop-up window to preview documents. (more…)

evasi0n iOS 6.x jailbreak announced, tentatively planned for next week

The iOS 6.x jailbreak – dubbed evasi0n – has been announced, and according to a tweet from @planetbeing, one of the hackers working on it, is tentatively scheduled for release next week. The tweet advises that the jailbreak could come out earlier than that, or it could come out later. According to the official website that is now live, the jailbreak’s GUI is being finalized.

evasi0n jailbreak

Per the official website, a Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux version of the jailbreak will be available. Mac OS X must be at least version 10.5, while Windows need to be at least XP. It will be compatible with all iPad/iPad mini, iPod Touch, and iPhone models that are running iOS 6.0 to iOS 6.1. The entire jailbreaking process is said to take about 5 minutes, and the only requirement – aside from the OS – is a USB data cable.

Once the GUI is completed, the next step will be moving the jailbreaking software into a private beta, where it will be tested for issues. This is the result of the collective evad3rs, which is composed of hackers known by the handles pod2g, pimskeks, planetbeing, and musclenerd. They have a Twitter account up now under @evad3rs.

Others who have worked on the project or otherwise have had involvement includes @chronicdevteam and @iphone_dev, which are thanked on the website for providing support, @Surenix who created designs for both evasi0n and evad3rs, and @phoenixdev for providing research. Little else is known at the moment. We’ll be keeping an eye on this and will let you know when it goes live.

Westboro Baptist Church Files Proposition 8 Amicus Brief

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church filed an amicus brief last week in one of the Supreme Court’s upcoming gay marriage cases, urging the court to “protect” the nation from the “destructive effects of same-sex marriage.”

The 30-page brief, filed by the controversial anti-gay group on January 25, quotes heavily from scripture, claiming that same-sex unions are “totally contrary to the standard of God.”

“Same-sex marriage will destroy this nation,” reads the brief. “If the leaders of this country treat what God has called abominable as something to be respected, revered, and blessed with the seal of approval of the government, that will cross a final line with God.”
