White Nexus 4 Leaked Again

white nexus 4 1 White Nexus 4 Leaked AgainYesterday, we were really thrilled when we heard about a white Nexus 4 lurking somewhere. Today, we’re getting more images of the purported white Nexus 4, thanks to the Vietnamese site Tinhte. As you can see above, the Nexus 4 is displayed in its full “unicorn-ish” glory. However, Tinhte notes that only the back portion of the Nexus 4 is painted in white – something that we’ve seen in earlier white Nexus phones. (more…)

Samsung To Skip Major Announcements In MWC Press Conference

05 samsung logo Samsung To Skip Major Announcements In MWC Press Conference Pocket-Lint has just dropped quite the bombshell – that South Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung will skip Mobile World Congress 2013 that is happening in Barcelona, Spain, next month. From what we gather, Samsung will still have a showfloor presence, but they will showcase no new products that are special to them. In a nutshell, you will not find the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 make an appearance then, and according to whispers on the grapevine, the Galaxy S4 is tipped for a March 2013 event instead.

A March release of the Galaxy S4 would most probably allow it to be released or at least, announced in the market earlier compared to the next generation of the iPhone. From what we can tell, this is very much Samsung’s nature, and if we were to look back in time, MWC 2012 saw Samsung show off some rather mediocre or mid-range devices such as the Galaxy Beam, in addition to tablets like the Galaxy Tab 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1.

Sensei: 2 Chairs, 1 Table

Furniture that can be transformed into other pieces of furniture isn’t exactly new. I think the idea was inspired by the fact that most of us are cramped for space in our homes, and convertible furniture seems like a good solution to that. It’s not always done well, but the Sensei is one of the few that is executed almost seamlessly.

Not only is the Sensei a table, but it’s also two chairs as well. The catch is, it can’t be both at the same time; you have to choose between one or the other.

SenseiAs two chairs, the Sensei features an asymetrical, futuristic design with a backrest that’s only supported on one side. If you’ve got enough stools to go around the room but not enough tables, then flip the chairs over to their sides and interlock them like so. The black and white cross at the center, forming a sort-of yin and yang right down in the middle. Once chairs are aligned, just push them together to close the gap in the middle, and voila! You now have a coffee table!

Uruguayan industrial designer Claudio Sibille, however, explains that part was accidental, since the Sensei was the product of “random geometric shapes” that he was playing around with on AutoCAD.

Sensei2

It’s an extremely elegant design, but unfortunately, it’s only a concept for now, with the Sensei you see here being a prototype that Sibille created of his design.

Hollywood Looks To FAA For Permission To Shoot Movies With Drones

hollywood faa Hollywood Looks To FAA For Permission To Shoot Movies With DronesWe have seen some pretty wicked angles in movie shots for quite some time already, and some of these shots rely on computer generated imagery, while others do involve a helicopter flying around to get that money shot in. Whatever it is, we humans are always on the lookout to find a better and more efficient way of doing things, and Hollywood is said to be knocking on the doors of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently. This effort that is spearheaded by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) intends to obtain permission for visionary filmmakers to use aerial drones when it comes to shooting their next film.

Needless to say, some other companies have already started to use different drones to capture the essence of selected scenes where independent productions are concerned, and they also come in handy when scouting for the right location. However, the new permissions, if given, would allow filmmakers a free rein over the use of drones without having to violate local laws. I’m all for technology to make life better, how about you?

Ballmer not worried about competition from Google, downplays Dropbox

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer isn’t afraid to speak his mind when it comes to competition, and that’s exactly what he did just recently speaking about Google and Dropbox. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Ballmer discussed the company’s new Office 2013 suite, as well as its SkyDrive cloud storage service, and said that he’s confident that Microsoft’s new Office products will gain a lot of users, despite competition from Google’s own set of office suite products.

Speaking about Dropbox, Ballmer mentioned that the service’s 100 million users “sounds like a pretty small number,” and he noted that Office users outnumber Dropbox’s user base by quite a few. While he wasn’t necessarily trying to downplay Dropbox’s significance, Ballmer said that it’s merely just a “fine little startup.”

Microsoft currently boasts around one billion Office users, and while many think that number will stay stagnant, Ballmer disagrees and says that the service will continue to grow and bring in new users, thanks to the “more and more people” entering the classroom or office and taking on more information-heavy jobs.

Towards the end of the interview, Ballmer was asked about Office coming to the iPad, and declined to directly comment on it. However, he did say that the company is “very glad” and “very happy” with the product, and “it makes sense on the devices like the Mac and the PC.” As far as future plans for an iPad version of Office, though? “We’ll see what we see in the future.”

You Can Thank Galileo For This Marvelous Modern Clock

Galileo was the first to think to use a pendulum as a time keeper in 1637. An actual clock using the precise weighted mechanism was patented in 1656 by Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens. Roughly 350 years later, Christian Kim has reinterpreted the classic ticker with the modern Pendulum clock for Zwilling. More »

BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

BlackBerry Z10 spotted at retailers prior to BB10 event

Looks like retailers might be jumping the gun a bit on the about-to-be-announced BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. Twitter user @bandozer spotted one at a UK Phones4U retailer and managed to snap a pic (after the break), saying that “it looks and feels good,” while our own tipster forwarded us the above image that came from another store. Looks like the only thing that’ll stop the numerous leaks is when RIM finally announces the darned thing — sometime in the next hour or two.
