Mayim Bialik, Michael Stone ‘Putting Kids First’ After Divorce

How are things going for “Big Bang Theory” actress Mayim Bialik since her November 2012 split from Michael Stone?

“It’s going okay,” she told Us Weekly at a SAG Awards pre-party on January 26. “I mean, I have to say, I give both of us a lot of credit for putting our kids first. It’s not easy, but we’re doing okay, so thank God.”

The former “Blossom” star filed for divorce from Stone two months ago after nine years of marriage. The pair have two sons together — Miles, 7, and Frederick, 4. Some speculated that her parenting style, attachment parenting, factored into the split — an accusation that Bialik firmly denied on her blog.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said Monday that he is open to closing gun show loopholes that allow individuals to purchase firearms without a background check.

FCC filing reveals Apple TV model A1469 with slightly smaller dimensions (update: new antenna, CPU too?)

Apple TV clears the FCC,

We don’t generally find surprises from Apple in the daily stream of FCC documents and test reports, but a new filing published today seems to suggest that a new Apple TV model of some sort could be on the way. While the diagram pictured above doesn’t suggest any major changes to the device’s appearance, it does list some slightly smaller measurements: 93.78mm square compared to the 98mm of the current model. That’s certainly not the biggest of differences, but the measurements in previous Apple FCC filings have been spot on. The model number, A1469, is also one that we haven’t seen before, but the documents unfortunately don’t offer much else in the way of details (only confirmation of the same WiFi capabilities as the current-gen Apple TV).

As MacRumors noted yesterday, a look at the download options for the latest Apple TV software update also revealed a new “AppleTV3,2” model, which it speculated could be an international version of the device — although it of course remains to be seen if it and this model are one and the same. For now, you can get a closer look at the filing yourself at the source link.

Update: Anandtech has peeked through the filings and the source code, finding a new single antenna setup that follows the design of other iDevices, and reference to an updated A5X SoC at its heart.

This Soft-Shell Helmet Bounces Back With Every Hit

Helmets have a relatively simple—if not imperative—job as far as gear goes: 1) don’t fall off and 2) prevent major brain damage. Given its limited roster of tasks, it’d be easy to assume that helmet innovation has probably hit a standstill by now. WRONG. Enter the Giro Combyn snow-sports helmet: a soft-shell helmet that utilizes an impact-absorbing liner that Giro promises can take all sorts of hits over, and over, and over again. More »

Google Nexus 7 and 4 tipped for spring refresh in White and HD

This week the Google Nexus lineup has been tipped to see a slight overhaul for its second coming, with hardware upgrades coming to the Nexus 7 tablet and the Nexus 4 smartphone in large and small doses. The Google Nexus 7 tablet has been on the market since July of last year as it was first shown off at Google I/O 2012, the company’s official developer conference, while the Nexus 4 has only been on the market for a few months – still having supply issues as we speak. The upgrades come to the color in which you’ll be able to pick up the smartphone and the sharpness of the display of the tablet.

While it is odd that the Samsung-made Nexus 10 has not been tipped for any sort of upgrade (beyond this one) for this Winter/Spring 2013 season, the Nexus 7 (made by ASUS) has seen its fair share of competition since its initial $199 reveal. This price point and the fact that it’s got a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor under the hood have all but blasted the machine into space with popularity, prompting waves of competitive 7-inch tablets (and the like) to attempt to syphon the cash. The upgrade tipped by Digitimes suggests that this machine will have an upgrade from its 1280 x 800 pixel display to an immensely dense 1728 x 1080 or even 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution.

Meanwhile the Google Nexus 4 (made by LG) has been selling like hotcakes since it was first put on the market at the end of 2012. Here near the end of January 2013, the device is just now seeing availability flicker on (and more often off) online and in retail locations across the USA. Have a peek at a column by the name of “Why the Nexus 4 is selling like mad by Robert Nelson on Android Community to see why this beast continues to kick the market’s butt.

The newest word on the Nexus 4 is that it’ll have a white case in its next release. That’s it, that’s all, that’s all there is. That tip was sent to PhoneArena with the photo you see above – look pretty real to you? Looks pretty real to us – expect that device to be appearing in that color before the second quarter of this year rolls around – bank on it!
