canon elph 330 hs Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS Digital CameraNikon is not the only one who has just released their fair share of digital cameras today, as the folks over at Canon do have their fair share of devices to trumpet to the world. The Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera offers advanced wireless connectivity so that sharing becomes easier than ever before, and it is touted to deliver great performance even in dimly lit situations. Thanks to Canon’s unique HS SYSTEM that delivers clear images with minimal noise and maximum detail even when shooting in low-light, it will also be accompanied by a host of other features such as Canon’s Smart AUTO which will allow first timers to capture great looking photos as it delivers optimal camera performance automatically.

There is also the ECO Mode, an advanced new method which will learn how to manage power consumption while ensuring that your battery life is extended by around 30% more than usual, allowing you to spend more time composing and thinking of the next shot compared to running to the nearest power outlet for a charger. Mario and Luigi as Ghostbusters: Who Ya Gonna Call?

I think we finally have a worthy idea for the next Ghostbusters film, based on this work of fine geek art. Imagine Mario and Luigi Ghostbusting and saving Peach from Boo in the haunted castle.
mario ghostbusters
This awesome painting is the work of artist joehavasy who makes all kinds of cool geek art. Being a fan of both Super Mario games and Ghostbusters, this mash-up makes complete sense to me – and I for one, would love to see a live-action version of this painting on the big screen. It took over a month to paint and measures 20 x 30″. It’s painted on a piece of birch wood with a wooden frame backing it.

The beam of light was painted with a fluorescent paint that even gives off a glow in darker rooms and Boo’s tongue has some gloss medium on it so that it actually looks wet as well. This painting will cost you $1,200(USD). That’s a whole lot of gold coins, but I still think it’s totally worth it.

Gameloft Q4 2012 sales reach record high

This week the team at Gameloft has released their Q4 earnings report for the end of 2012, showing here that they’ve come up with their most successful quarter ever! This report shows that Gameloft has recorded a 23% boost in sales compared to the same quarter last year as well as earnings throughout 2012 that are 27% higher than they were throughout 2011. Looks like everything is turning up Gameloft!

gameloft_cash

Gameloft is noting that the successful launch of a brand new pack of games over the past few weeks and months have contributed greatly to the overall excellence of the quarter leading into 2013. Games like Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, PLAYMOBIL Pirates (currently featured in Google Play as a game you’ve gotta check out), World at Arms, and even My Little Pony are being touted as leaders of the new school. Legacy lines of games continuing with Ice Age Village, The Amazing Spider-Man, Order & Chaos Online, and Asphalt 7: Heat are also keeping the company strong in the mobile realm.

Earnings this quarter are the highest they’ve been in any one quarter in the whole history of Gameloft as a brand. They also mark the sixth consecutive quarter in which Gameloft has topped earnings from the quarter before – that’s extremely rare in a company in this market as quarters generally go up or down based on how close they are to the holiday seasons. The 12-month total earnings have hit 208.3 million Euro while 2011′s total was up to 164.4 – Gameloft on the rise, that’s what that is.

Just comparing the Q4 sales year-on-year on smartphones and tablets, growth went up 66%. These sales represented 56% of the total Group sales in the end while one year ago they represented 41% – the times they are a changing!

Above you’ll see the Samsung Galaxy Note II running Asphalt 7: Heat – notice how fabulous the game is and keep in mind that we use this game as a go-to app showing the graphics and processing abilities of high-powered Android devices basically every time we need to do such a thing. It’s also a go-to game for comparing iOS and Android devices as Gameloft is right on top of keeping the app up to date and hot for both platforms. This bodes well for their company and business as a whole as their games are both high functioning and constantly updated to stay ahead of the curve.

LG’s Nexus 4 Finally Returns To The U.S. Google Play Store

nexus4-8

There are whole host of new smartphones waiting for their time to shine at Mobile World Congress (not to mention an event or two before the big show), but you’re in luck if you’re a domestic Android fan smitten with LG and Google’s Nexus 4. The hard-to-obtain handset first reappeared in the German Google Play Store earlier today, and now those of you in the U.S. can finally purchase one again too.

Google caught some flack when the Nexus 4 first launched because of the tumultuous process of actually ordering one, not to mention subsequent issues with stock. It eventually got to the point where Google and LG representatives started playing the blame game, insinuating (and sometimes proclaiming) that the fault lay with the other party. In the end though, LG remains committed to cranking out Nexus 4s and it just may be that the Nexus drought is over for good. That is of course, until the oft-rumored Nexus 5 (also supposedly crafted by LG) makes its official appearance — murmurs from the rumor mill point to a possible introduction at Google’s next I/O conference in May.

On the off-chance that you’ve read this far and still haven’t clicked over to the Google Play Store to place an order, here are direct links for the 8GB and 16GB models so have at it! At this point, Google claims that units will start shipping within the next two weeks, but The Verge claims that shipments will hit doorsteps even sooner than that. Is Google under-promising and planning to over-deliver? Let’s hope so — those first few hours of Nexus availability definitely left a bad taste in some people’s mouths.

Update: Our own Darrell Etherington bugged me to update this post with the news that you can now get Nexus 4s in Canada. So there.”

Guild Wars 2 Content Update Arrives

gw2 update Guild Wars 2 Content Update ArrivesThere is a saying that goes like this – good things come to those who wait, and if you happen to be part of the latter category, then you will be pleased to hear that the long-awaited content update for Guild Wars 2 has arrived which will see the resolution of several exploits in addition to reworked dungeons that will surely get your blood pumping for more Guild Wars 2 action. Most of the major changes will target the PvP and PvE fronts, while classes themselves have also been on the receiving end of skill tweaks, with some of them being minimal while others are a whole lot more impactful.

Do bear in mind that when it comes to dungeons, you will no longer be able to perform the tactic known as graveyard rush, and if you happen to fall dead in combat, it would mean just that – you are still in combat. This will see some adjustments made to select bosses so that the entire situation is a whole lot more manageable. Not only that, folks who have had their fair share of exploit abuse will no longer be able to do so after the latest patch is applied.

US Justice Department asks FCC to delay Sprint’s merger with Softbank (update: Sprint statement)

It appears that Dish wasn’t the only one who wants the FCC to put the brakes on Softbank’s merger with Sprint. Bloomberg reports that the US Justice Department has just requested that the FCC delay the deal as well. No word on why governmental lawyers are making the request, but we’ll update this post as soon as more information is available.

Update: While the DOJ has recommended that the FCC delay its approval of the deal due to national security concerns, it turns out that Dish has decided not to stand against the merger, after all. So, Sprint and Softbank have exchanged a private sector problem for a governmental one. The DOJ’s scrutiny certainly provides a significant hurdle for the deal to clear, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the two telcos can never be together. We’ll have to wait and see whether Uncle Sam gives the merger its final stamp of approval.

Update 2: Sprint has issued a statement on the matter: ‘This is a routine request when working with the CFIUS agencies regarding national security.” So, it seems that the folks in Overland Park aren’t overly concerned with the DOJ’s snooping.

Amazon adds Windows Phone 8 support to Kindle app, keeps the Live Tiles going

Amazon adds Windows Phone 8 support to Kindle app, keeps the Live Tiles going

Amazon’s been doing a pretty decent job at blanketing those Android and iOS Kindle applications with the latest and greatest, but the same couldn’t exactly be said about its Windows Phone counterpart. Today there’s great news for users of Redmond’s mobile OS, however, as the Fire maker has announced an update that brings some much-needed support for Windows Phone 8 to the app, which should pair well with the company’s Whispersync tech and the extensive e-book repertoire it has to offer. There might be one caveat, though: early adopters of the refreshed Kindle app have said it’s facing some crashing issues and, in some cases, even having trouble launching — a few folks, meanwhile, have mentioned that it’s best to do a clean install rather than update the previous version in order to avoid any woes. The link to grab the application is down below, and do use the comments section to let us know how the process turned out for you.
