Handheld LCD Magnifier

Aging sucks, but it is a rite of passage that we all must go through. In fact, I am starting to feel the effects of plunging headlong into my 30s, and somehow, the energy that I used to possess just a couple of years ago is no longer there. Parts of the body are guaranteed to fail in due time, or at least, have its performance deteriorate over the course of time. Apart from one’s hearing, sight too, is a sense that will start to blur due to the scourge of time. Well, good thing we live in this day and age where there is technology to help us out, and the $329 Handheld LCD Magnifier is one nifty device which delivers up to 13.6x magnification, all in the palm of your hand.

This ultra-portable video magnifier is extremely lightweight and a snap to use, where only three buttons are available for you to use, and it sports a wide 3.5″ screen with anti-blur technology. The images that appear will come in color, black and white, or reverse, and you can also opt for freeze frame too. All you need to do is run the magnifier across your paper, and your eyes need not squint nor work that hard to read all those fine print. It is ideal for travel and for folks who have aging eyes or impaired vision, where the assistance of a strong LED light and a rechargeable Li-lon battery will offer around 2.5 hours of “playback time”, so to speak.

Netflix for iOS 3.0 brings the zoom icon back, adds more UI improvements

Netflix for iOS v30 brings the zoom icon back, adds more UI improvements

Sony’s now obsolete PS3 may be the Netflix streaming device of choice, but that doesn’t mean the popular streaming service will ignore other platforms. The Netflix app on iOS, which saw its last big refresh back in September last year, has just been bumped up to v3.0 — bringing with it a slew of UI changes aimed towards improving your movie-watching experience. The zoom icon that was removed previously is now back for easier access to full-screen viewing, while a tap displays video titles if you’re using the app on the iPad. The three-point change log also includes a relocation of the playback controls. Nothing profound, but hey — could be worth your while if it keeps you away from reality just a little longer.

Spotify Said To Be Negotiating Better Rates, Possibly Extending Free Trials For Mobile Devices

Spotify Said To Be Negotiating Better Rates, Possibly Extending Free Trials For Mobile DevicesIf you use Spotify on your computer and you’re thinking of perhaps subscribing to its service on your mobile device but you’re unsure, you might be in luck because according to The Verge, their sources have revealed to them that in the coming days, Spotify is expected to meet with the major labels in the recording industry and not only will they be asking for a substantial price break, but they are also expected to ask for the rights to extend their free pricing tier to mobile devices.

The Verge expects that Spotify will be in a good negotiating position since they claim that music downloads from services such as Apple’s iTunes have slowed, and aren’t doing well enough to make up for the decline in CD purchases. Not to mention if Spotify can land this deal, they will definitely have the competitive advantage, especially since there are rumors that have indicated that Apple could be interested in launching a streaming service of their own, similar to Pandora. According to the report, Spotify has already begun their negotiations with Warner Music and is expected to begin talks with the other major labels, such as Sony and Universal, in the coming weeks.

Huawei GL07S Announced For Japan, Resembles The Ascend P2

Huawei GL07S Announced For Japan, Resembles The Ascend P2A couple of weeks ago the Huawei Ascend P2 was spotted in some leaked photos and with an event invite pegged for the 24th of February, it would seem as if Huawei could be announcing the device then. However in the meantime it looks like Japanese carrier Emobile has announced a certain Huawei GL07S smartphone, and based on the press shot in the picture above, we can’t help but feel that this device shares a striking resemblance to the Ascend P2. While aesthetically it might look like the P2, there is one notable difference between the models, and that is its processor.

According to the rumors, the Ascend P2 is said to sport a 1.8GHz quad-core processor developed by Huawei themselves. However in the case of the GL07S, it will feature a 1.5GHz quad-core processor instead. Apart from that, other minor differences include larger internal storage at 32GB and a slightly larger battery at 2,350mAh versus the 2,200mAh. It measures 8.6mm thin and will also come with 2GB of RAM and a 13MP camera along with 4G LTE connectivity, making it Emobile’s first LTE smartphone.

It will be priced at $19.99 and will be available via Beamdog’s website, although the developers are planning to make it available via the Mac App Store in the future, but no word on when that is just yet. For those wondering what’s the deal with such an old game, Beamdog basically revived the Baldur’s Gate series in the Enhanced Editions of the game. It features slightly revamped graphics, introduction of new features such as new characters to play with and new areas. At the moment the game is available for the PC and the iPad where it is priced at $9.99. Sprint CEO eyes more spectrum deals after buying Clearwire

Sprint CEO eyes more spectrum deals after Clearwire

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse isn’t so narrowly focused as to think that the proposed Clearwire acqusition represents the end of the road for spectrum. Far from it: he tells Bloomberg Businessweek that the company is investigating future airwave deals involving companies and government auctions. The Clearwire deal mostly bought time, according to Hesse. Naturally, these ambitions are partly contingent on both SoftBank’s purchase of Sprint and the absence of any Dish-sized hurdles to the Clearwire pact. As long as the path stays clear, though, we wouldn’t assume that Hesse’s shopping spree is over.

Thing is, no matter how strong you are, your hands might end up rather tired even after a while from holding up an iPad to watch movie after movie. This is where iPad holders come in handy, but there are already so many in the market, will this latest addition offer something different? Well, Hammacher’s $99.95 Any Surface Magnetic iPad Mount intends to do so, where this unique iPad holder will be able to mount to any vertical or horizontal surface.

Thanks to the holder’s powerful, 60-lb.-rated magnet, it is capable of attaching itself to just about any ferrous metal surface (a refrigerator would be a good example) and it will be accompanied by a couple of attachments, one with suction cups and the other with screws and wall anchors, just in case you want a permanent iPad holder on a surface or wall made up of glass, wood, or drywall. The iPad will clip into the holder’s metal arms, and you need not have to purchase a separate special case for it, enabling you to rotate the tablet computer 360° or tilt it up to 70° for optimal positioning. Compatible with the iPad 2 and 3, both attachments arrive in 16-gauge solid steel for strong adherence with the iPad holder’s magnet.
