Steve Wozniak Believes Blackberry Will Turn To Android In The Future

Steve Wozniak Believes Blackberry Will Turn To Android In The FutureBlackberry 10 is Blackberry’s last ditch efforts at reclaiming some market share and some of its former glory, and so far based on what we’ve seen, it certainly holds a lot of promise. However the question we’re sure many are wondering is will it be enough? There has been talks in the past that Blackberry might sell itself off, and CEO Thorsten Heins has even suggested that there could be a day in the future where Blackberry might have to license out its operating system. All of that suggests that Blackberry will still continue operating Blackberry in some degree, but Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak seems to think otherwise.

Speaking to media outlets, Wozniak offered up his opinion that perhaps instead of licensing out Blackberry 10 to other hardware manufacturers, Blackberry will instead make the switch to the Android operating system, following in the footsteps of other hardware manufacturers like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and so on. Considering that Nokia pretty much abandoned its Symbian and MeeGo operating system in favor of a revolutionary change to Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that Blackberry could make that move someday, but what do you guys think? Will Blackberry continue to hold onto its operating system or do you agree with Steve Wozniak that Blackberry could switch to Android one day?

Visualized: NASA’s MakerBot Replicator

Image

Between this and the Arduino, you’d think NASA’s Swamp Works was a hackerspace — though, perhaps in a sense, the research facility kind of is. And really, between the organization’s on-going fascination with the potential of 3D printing and a desire to meet budgetary concerns, we probably shouldn’t have been all too shocked to see a first-gen MakerBot Replicator on a table of the former Apollo-testing facility. The printer wasn’t actually in use during our visit, and the Hazardous Operation tag could probably be taken to be a bit tongue-in-cheek — though, when it comes to space travel, you can never be too careful.

Spotify To Make Its Way Onto Blackberry 10

Spotify To Make Its Way Onto Blackberry 10If you were worried that Blackberry 10 would be void of quality and big-name apps, you might want to rethink that because it looks like Spotify will be making its way onto Blackberry World in the future. This was confirmed by the folks at N4BB who managed to get an exclusive look and demo of the app, although the downside is that they were not allowed to take any photos, so we will have to wait until it has been released to see how it will look like. According to N4BB, the app is completed and now it’s just up to the developers to release it into Blackberry World. No word on when that will be taking place, but N4BB is speculating that major apps such as Skype, Kindle and Spotify could be released once the Blackberry Z10 hits the US market. As it stands T-Mobile and AT&T are expecting the Z10, with T-Mobile expecting a mid-March launch.

Sony Explains Why PlayStation 4 Console Was Not Shown During The Event

Sony Explains Why PlayStation 4 Console Was Not Shown During The EventYou might have heard the big news which is that Sony announced the PlayStation 4 yesterday. It is a pretty big deal considering that the PlayStation 3 has been around for quite a while, but one of the many questions the community has been asking is, where is the actual console? Sony revealed some of the features they would be bringing to the PlayStation 4, along with the new DualShock 4 controller, but they have yet to reveal the actual console itself. This was rather strange but when the folks at Kotaku raised the question to the president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, it seems that they chose not to reveal the console simply because they wanted to keep some of the surprise for later.

“We really wanted to explain what we’ve done with the DualShock 4, but as far as the system itself we have to keep something new for later. Otherwise you’d get bored.” It seemed a bit odd considering Sony went all out at today’s event, bringing plenty of developers on stage to show off the console’s potential, so we’re not sure why they did not choose to reveal the actual console itself. Either way with E3 taking place in the middle of the year, perhaps Sony might be using that opportunity to reveal the console, or maybe even earlier if we’re lucky. In any case what do you guys think? Should Sony have just revealed everything at one go, or do you think this is a good way to keep people in suspense and interested, especially in the face of the possibility that Microsoft could be unveiling their next-gen console as well?

McLaren announces powertrain specifications for P1 supercar

McLaren Automotive has made some of the most desirable sports cars in the world for a long time. The company has been teasing automotive enthusiasts with little details about its new McLaren P1 for a while now and the company has finally offered the specifications for the vehicle’s powertrain. As you might expect, the car has an enormous amount of power.

p1-int

The vehicle combines two types of power plants to offer a mix of throttle response, drivability, and top speed. The vehicle has a mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 engine combined with a high-efficiency electric motor giving the vehicle of total power output of 903 bhp and 900Nm of torque. The gasoline engine alone produces 727 BHP and 720Nm of torque.

The electric motor in the vehicle adds 176 BHP and 260Nm of torque instantly to greatly improve the throttle response of the vehicle. That electric motor and the gasoline motor combined for the complete power output. The vehicle also uses some Formula One technology to help increase its straight-line speed and boost power. The car has F1 style DRS (Drag Reduction System) and IPAS (Instant Power Assist System).

All the power goes through a dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox that drives the rear wheels. Upshifts are made even faster using an E-motor that is able to provide instant negative torque at the point of shifting. That allows the engine revs to drop as quickly and efficiently as possible to the required engine speed for the upshift. The electric motor is also designed to provide drag torque to recover energy to the battery that would be lost to braking otherwise. The supercar does have an E mode that allows the vehicle to operate on the electric motor alone with ability to travel 10 km using only battery power.

Some Diablo 3 Gamers React Negatively To Console Idea

Some Diablo 3 Gamers React Negatively To Console IdeaAs you might have heard, Blizzard announced that they would be bringing Diablo 3 onto the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It has long been rumored that Blizzard would do such a thing and while the idea of play Diablo 3 on a console might seem like a novel idea, it seems that it might not have been very well received amongst the Diablo community. There was originally a thread about the topic on the Diablo 3 forums but it has since been deleted, but the argument was that Diablo 3 may have originally been designed for the console since the start.

We guess some gamers might have taken issue that designing it for the console at the start might have compromised the game in some way, but then again this is pure speculation, but check out the arguments in the list below after the break and let us know if you think they are valid! (more…)

TI unveils new TI-Nspire iPad applications

Texas Instruments has announced that it has built its high-end graphing calculator technology into some applications designed to run on the Apple iPad. The company has announced the launch of two new applications including the TI-Nspire App for iPad and the TI-Nspire CAS App for iPad. These apps are specifically designed for the iPad and were refined in collaboration with researchers and classroom teachers.

ti-nspire

The apps were designed to meet curriculum needs for students ranging from seventh grade through college. The apps are able to offer all-in-one functionality for performing calculations in proper math notation. The apps also offer graphing and exporting functions, equations and inequalities, and the ability to construct and explore geometric figures.

The apps have a on screen keyboard that can toggle between math notation and QWERTY configurations allowing students to put notes beside equations. The applications also offer dynamically linked multiple representations of problems encouraging students to make personal connections by observing how the equations change as the student interacts with the shapes, graphs, and objects on the tablet screen.

The apps also have the ability to create and save documents and share them using e-mail, iTunes, and other sharing options. The app also takes advantage of the integrated camera of the iPad allowing students to take photos and import them into the app and overlay graphs and equations on those photographs to illustrate math principles using real world examples. The apps are available to download right now from the App Store for $29.99 each. Teachers can get a free one-year license to both apps with the purchase of one of the apps via the App Store.
