Teacher Survey Shows Record Low Job Satisfaction In 2012

As school districts continued to cut budgets, increase class sizes, and implement teacher performance evaluations, teachers’ job satisfaction plummeted in 2012, reaching an all-time low, according to a survey released Thursday.

“We’ve seen a continuous decline in teacher satisfaction,” said Dana Markow, vice president of youth and education research for pollster Harris Interactive, which conducted the poll for the MetLife Survey of the American Teacher.

Teachers’ job satisfaction has declined 23 percentage points in the five years since 2008, according to the long-running survey of educators and principals. Only 39 percent of teachers reported they were very satisfied, the least since 1987, the survey showed. The percentage of teachers who said they were very satisfied dropped five percentage points in 2012.

“If the governor continues to push a tax increase in Virginia what party would he run for president for?” Norquist asked, referencing speculation about the Republican governor’s political future.

AirGo Concept Makes Economy Class Flights More Comfortable

AirGo Concept Makes Economy Class Flights More ComfortableFlying cattle class, or rather, economy class if you were to use the proper term, is not something that most folks enjoy, but simply because of cost considerations, there is no other choice. Thing is, are there better ways to make flying economy class more comfortable? Malaysia-based engineering student Alireza Yaghoubi figured out that this is a proverbial broken wheel that needs to be fixed, and the AirGo concept of a new economy class air passenger seat design intends to reduce the overall cost of seats, making it a whole lot easier to maintain and more comfortable, too.

According to Yaghoubi, he thought up of the AirGo design after being subjected to the cramped conditions of economy class whenever he flew. Neck pain, poor blood circulation and backaches are common symptoms of economy class passengers, and the AirGo Economy Class Cabin can be said to deliver salvation. It is a whole lot more ergonomic, less intrusive on other passengers, and of course, more economically viable compared to what we have today. Each seat will occupy an independent space which will not impose on the other passengers, while offering similar comfort levels as that of a First Class seat. An individual locker above each passenger will replace the standard shared bins, and a tray and touchscreen have also been independently mounted on arms, making it a snap to move and to be configured. Heck, if you do not need it, just fold it away.

A back support made up of a nylon mesh will conform to your body, preventing passengers from sweating, while the footrest remains integral to the AirGo seat. It is said that the AirGo is 200% more space efficient compared to First Class, and requires a mere 16% more space than a conventional Economy Class seat.

Sony Shows PlayStation 4 Capabilities, But No Actual Box

NEW YORK (AP) — Sony wants you to know that the PlayStation 4 is coming this holiday season, but not what it will look like.

The Japanese electronics giant talked about its upcoming console for the first time Wednesday and showed what it can do, without actually revealing the device itself during the two-hour event. Presenters played games that were projected on screens in a converted opera house, but the PlayStations themselves were hidden backstage.

“I don’t know that the box is going to be something that’s going to have a dramatic impact on people’s feelings about the game. It will be a color and a size fairly comparable to previous consoles,” said Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, the U.S.-based arm of the PlayStation business.

PS4 Sports 6x Blu-ray Drive, 8-Core AMD Processor And 8GB RAM

PS4 Sports 6x Blu ray Drive, 8 Core AMD Processor And 8GB RAMMore details on the recently announced Sony PS4 has surfaced, and while Sony did not manage to unveil the home console at the event earlier this evening in New York City, at least it has shed additional light on the kind of power packed underneath the hood. For starters, the Sony PS4 will clearly concentrate a whole lot on graphics, where it has a powerful custom chip from AMD run proceedings from within, boasting of eight x86-64 cores as well as a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) that is composed of a unified array of 18 compute units, where they will collectively generate 1.84 Teraflops of processing power (!).

Other than that, we gathered earlier today that the Sony PS4 will feature 8GB of unified system memory, where GDDR5 is used in order to deliver 176 GB/second of bandwidth. In plain English, do expect blazing fast performance in terms of graphics, but it remains the onus of the developer to deliver the right kind of coding. How is your PS4 fund coming along? The folks over at Engadget tout a 6x Blu-ray drive keeping the PS4 company, too. [Press Release]
