DRIVE CLUB revealed at Sony’s press event

Sony and Evolution Studios have collaborated to bring you a new, beautiful, team-based driving game. The game has been in development for over 10 years. The game emphasisizes team-play and you’ll be a part of a driving club (that you can join or form with your friends) that competes with other driving clubs. The game allows you to drive beautiful cars that have been designed to look just like their real-life counterparts.

DRIVE CLUB revealed at Sony's Press Event

This game isn’t just your average racing game. Each track will be prepped with a variety of fun and engaging challenges. You can choose whatever weather you want and whatever time of day you want to race in. Every level is promised to be a new, and fun experience. Evolution Studios also emphasized that you will have 24/7 untethered access to your club. Races will be asynchronized and played in real-time.

There’s the first-person perspective that makes you feel like you’re actually driving the car. It shows “you” opening the car door, getting behind the wheel, fastening your seat belt, and taking off in your expensive, possibly foreign-engineered sports car. All of the cars are designed to look exactly like the real-life counterpart its supposed to resemble. The folks at Evolution Studios visited car manufacturers frequently just to make sure they have every detail right. While the cars may be digital, they’ll look very real and very much like they do in reality.

DRIVE CLUB will be one of the PlayStation 4 games that will fully emphasize social game play. Sony wants to make the PlayStation Network one of the most powerful social gaming networks around. This game will be a dream-come-true for car fanatics, and a great game to play with your friends. Check out the other games, and PlayStation 4 features, introduced today at Sony’s press event in the timeline below.

The Witness is headed to PlayStation 4, the next game from Braid creator Jonathan Blow

The Witness is headed exclusively to PlayStation 4, the next game from Braid creator Jonathan Blow

Nothing could’ve been more delightful than Braid creator Jonathan Blow suddenly walking on-stage at Sony’s big PlayStation 4 reveal only to make fun of all the explosions the event had already featured. Oh sure, he was also at the event to reveal that his latest game, The Witness, is headed to Sony’s PlayStation 4 (as well as to PC and iOS, as the reveal trailer elucidates), but the first statement was much funnier. Anyway, the game looks much, much better than the various demos we’ve played across the past few years — Blow’s been developing The Witness for quite some time, and showing it publicly, albeit never on a PlayStation 4. We’ll hopefully hear more in the coming days, so keep an eye out.

Update: This post originally stated that The Witness was heading exclusively to the PlayStation 4, when in fact it’s only “console exclusive” to the PlayStation 4. It will also launch on iOS and PC. We’ve added the new trailer below the break.

WaPo Editors Show Sequester Fight Favoritism, Then Bend Over Backwards To Deny It

The editors of the Washington Post have done their latest weighing in on the battle over the sequester, and, as Jonathan Chait writes on Wednesday, they are still doing that thing that the Beltway media do when they’ve spent too long inhaling their own flatulence — pointedly preferring one side’s policies (in this case, President Barack Obama and the Democrats), pointedly decrying the other side’s intransigence (in this case, GOP lawmakers), and then declaring that both sides are equally at fault for the impasse. “Yet neither party has staked out anything like a serious negotiating position,” write the editors. “Both sides are obviously playing a political blame game,” they add, seemingly without recognizing that their whole editorial is an attempt to win this “game.”

It’s all basically nonsensical. Matt Yglesias likens it to a sort of vapor-lock that afflicts the intellect when you decide that constantly re-reciting tropes about “seriousness” becomes easier than producing actual thoughts:

Once you embrace the Principle of Seriousness, the way is clear for rigorous BipartisanThink. If the parties fail to agree because one party is being unreasonable and the other party is failing to cater to their unreasonable demands, then the apparently reasonable party is in fact failing to be serious. After all, a serious proposal is one that stands a chance of passing. Reasonable proposals will not pass a Congress in which one party is being unreasonable, so by definition the Principle of Seriousness allocates the blame equally to both sides. Balance is restored to the Force.

Oscar Pistorius Case: Police Admit Mistakes, Add To Confusion During Tense Bail Hearing

PRETORIA, South Africa — The prosecution case against Oscar Pistorius began to unravel Wednesday with revelations of a series of police blunders and the lead investigator’s admission that authorities have no evidence challenging the double-amputee Olympian’s claim he killed his girlfriend accidentally.

Detective Hilton Botha’s often confused testimony left prosecutors rubbing their heads in frustration as he misjudged distances and said testosterone – banned for professional athletes in some cases – was found at the scene, only to be later contradicted by the prosecutor’s office.

Highlights include a guest appearance from Prime Minister David Cameron (?), dancing flight attendants and Niall hanging out shirtless in the shower. Yes, you read that right.

Yale Professor Under Fire For Proposed Special Forces Training, ‘Interrogation’ Research

A Yale University professor currently being criticized for his recent proposal to train U.S. Special Forces in interview techniques has previously conducted research on how to tell whether Arab Muslim men are lying.

Psychiatry Associate Professor Charles A. Morgan III has proposed creating a center on the Yale campus that would teach up to 60 Green Berets per year in what he calls “cross-cultural” interviewing techniques. Critics say the plan is a violation of medical ethics and an affront to the immigrants who would be used as interview subjects.

The controversy began when a student newspaper, the Yale Herald, reported that Morgan would use $1.8 million in Department of Defense grants to create the the Center of Excellence for Operational Neuroscience. Slated to open as early as April, the center would operate as a joint venture between the United States Special Operations Command and Yale’s School of Medicine.

PlayStation 4 will not have native PS3 compatibility

In case you’ve somehow missed the news, Sony just revealed some details about the highly anticipated PlayStation 4. We’re still waiting for the good stuff, but we’ve just learned the details on an important question: backwards compatibility. Today Gaikai’s CEO Dave Perry confirmed that the Playstation 4 will not have native backwards compatibility with the PS3, at least not in the usual aspect.

clouds

For those unaware, Dave Perry from Gaikai is all about cloud gaming. From Remote Play, to Playstation Cloud and more we can expect tons of good things since Sony acquired them last year. While he was on stage detailing Remote Play, he quickly mentioned the backwards compatibility issue. Don’t worry though folks because you’ll still be able to enjoy those old classics, just through the cloud.

Sony’s next-generation PlayStation 4 cloud-gaming console will stream original PS1, PS2 and PS3 games all from the cloud. Using their upcoming and next-gen cloud gaming system you’ll be able to enjoy all those classic titles right from Sony. We don’t know all the details yet but the PlayStation Cloud Service will be the center of it all.

Interestingly enough we didn’t get any further details regarding compatibility and how this will all work. Will gamers automatically be able to stream games they own from the cloud? Or will we have to buy them again digitally from the cloud service and PlayStation Network. We’ll be looking for more details as they become available to stay tuned to our PlayStation 4 Portal.
