A Year With the Cheapest Unlimited Phone Plan You’ve Never Heard Of

Remember Republic Wireless? Those guys who promised to change the world of mobile with a $19 per month unlimited talk, text, and data plan? Remember how it sounded too good to be true? I dove in head first when it came out as a beta last year, and I can tell you from experience that it both is and isn’t. Republic is onto something, yes. But it’s getting there slowly. More »

Rayman Legends Online Challenge Mode Hitting Wii U This April For Free

When you consider how much of a double-edged sword Ubisoft’s recent Rayman Legends announcement was, ultimately fans of the side-scrolling action title are left to suffer as there won’t be any version of the game released until September.

The delay not only affected fans, which we’re sure many of you took to your social network of choice to vent your frustrations, but it also affected the developers behind Rayman Legends. Because of the outpouring of support from its fans, Ubisoft has decided to provide some more Rayman goodness this coming April in the form of an online challenge mode. (more…)

AMD Turbo Dock promises perfect balance for your Win8 hybrid

AMD has revealed Turbo Dock, its latest attempt to broach the tablet and ultraportable markets, with a Jekyll & Hyde APU processor that prioritizes performance when docked and battery life when in slate mode. Set to debut on AMD’s Temash SoC this year, Turbo Dock is in effect a dynamic throttling system that boosts CPU and GPU performance by up to 40-percent when a hybrid PC is docked, on the assumption that the user is likely to be doing more system-intensive content creation.

When the screen section is removed, however, Turbo Dock automatically throttles things back, reducing power consumption so that the tablet lasts longer. In fact, the system is constantly adjusting depending on what apps are being run, meaning the full potency of the APU isn’t employed if all you’re doing is watching a video.

Temash, meanwhile, is AMD’s latest low-power processor, aimed at Windows 8 powered tablets and hybrids. Built using 28nm processes, it promises five times the graphics performance of Intel’s Atom Z2760 – as in, for instance, Acer’s Iconia W510 hybrid – and will be available in dual- and quadcore versions.

AMD will be bringing along a selection of demo units to Mobile World Congress next week, to show off exactly what the A6-1450 and other Temash SoCs are capable of. Meanwhile, the first production tablets and hybrids to use Temash and feature Turbo Dock will be launched later in 2013, though no specific brands have been confirmed at this stage.

Police Informed a Mother About Her Son’s Death Over Facebook

On January 24th, Ricky Lamb was hit by a car and killed. His body sat in the morgue until Valentine’s Day, though, because the incompetent local police only contacted the family over Facebook. It took a month for Lamb’s mother to find the message. More »

Zynga’s Draw Something garners 100 million downloads in first year

Remember the fun, social drawing game Draw Something? It was released a year ago and became the number one social game within a month or so. If you were like a lot of people, though, you probably played for a bit and then ultimately deleted the app after a week. However, it seems the game has been a huge hit for a whole year now, because Zynga is reporting that the game has garnered 100 million downloads in its year of existence.

draw-something-infographic_final

Over the last year in Draw Something, 11 billion drawings have been made, with players spending over 28,000 combined years playing the game. The most popular object drawn? A pizza, which has been drawn 22 million times, beating out 11 million drawings of Lady Gaga. Furthermore, there have been five marriage proposals within the game and two breakups, proving that a game can find you love, as well as tear apart fragile hearts.

In total, there are players from 190 countries around the world, with the game hitting #1 at some point in 84 of those countries. At the game’s peak, 3,000 drawings per second were sent, and the most drawings ever by a single player was 36,752, confirming that at least someone playing Draw Something didn’t have too much of a life.

Zynga didn’t say how many active users it currently has compared to the first few months after the game was launched, but it probably isn’t that great. Back in May, after the game had been out for a few months, it was reported that Draw Something lost five million players within a month, and it would be difficult to believe if the game somehow gained those kinds of numbers back later in the year.

iPhone 5 Is Best Selling Smartphone In The world

iPhone 5 Is Best Selling Smartphone In The worldPop quiz time – which is the best selling smartphone in the world? If you have a fruity company in mind, you’re correct, as Apple’s iPhone 5 has picked up the gong for being the “world’s best selling smartphone”, at least according to Strategy Analytics. Strategy Analytics also claimed that second place is occupied by the iPhone 4S, while an Android-powered device, none other than the Samsung Galaxy S3, comes in third.

Strategy Analytics’ figures pointed out that the iPhone 5 sold 27.4 million units during the last quarter of 2012, and within the same time window, the Samsung Galaxy S3 sold 15.4 million units, which was eclipsed by the 17.4 million of the iPhone 4S. If you were to merge the sales figures of both iPhones, they would make up 20% of all smartphones shipped in Q4 2012. South Korean manufacturer Samsung should not be quaking in their boots though, as it showed that the Galaxy S3 still has plenty of mileage left in its tank, never mind the fact that it has hit the market 9 months prior. Which side of the smartphone divide does your allegiance lie?

Google Shows What Project Glass Can Do In ‘How It Feels’ Video

Google may still be considering what kind of features to highlight for its Project Glass, but judging by a recently released video called “How It Feels [through Glass]” published by Google, we think the company already has some good ideas of what exactly they want the device to do.

The video shows the interaction between the user and Google Glass can be minimal as by default, the device would project a small window at the top-right of the user’s view. Interacting with Google Glass would start with a phrase, which Google chose to make “OK, Glass” in this new demo. (more…)
