Everyone’s always jealous of the kid with the rich parents, but being born rich isn’t always a ticket to wealth. After all, not all rich people want to leave piles of money to their children.

And why not? They fear large sums of money will spoil their offspring and ruin their work ethic. They may have a point.

Obama Making Sequester Statement As Cuts Loom

By JULIE PACE, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON — Facing yet another fiscal deadline, President Barack Obama is urging congressional Republicans to accept more tax revenue in order to avert looming, across-the-board budget cuts due to take effect in less than two weeks.

Obama, fresh off a three-day Florida golfing trip, was to press his case during an event at the White House on Tuesday morning. Emergency responders, a group of workers the White House says could be affected if state and local governments lose federal money as a result of the cuts, were joining him.

China denies hacking against the US

Earlier this morning we reported that allegations have surfaced that China was conducting cyber attacks against the United States. The alleged attacks were being conducted on American media companies and other businesses. Media companies including the New York Times, Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal have all said that they were the target of cyber attacks that originated within China.

Allegations have claimed that the Chinese government is supporting hacker groups within the country. The hacks are believed to have originated from a unit of the People’s Liberation Army called Unit 61398. China has dismissed the accusations of hacking against the US and other countries as “groundless.”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei has stated that he doubted evidence collected would withstand scrutiny. Hong also said that making groundless accusations based on rough material is “neither responsible nor professional.” Hong made these comments during a regularly scheduled news conference. China continues to maintain that it has also been the target of coordinated cyber attacks along with the United States and other countries.

Hong said that cyber attacks and cyber crimes within China “are rising rapidly every year.” China has also reiterated that it has laws that strictly outlaw hacking. The most recent allegations, which some call the most damaging ever against China, come from a security company based in Virginia called Mandiant Corp.

Happy 540th Birthday, Copernicus, have a Google Doodle

Happy 540th Birthday, Copernicus, have a Google Doodle

It may be obvious now, but when Heliocentrism was cooked up by Nicolaus Copernicus, he was branded a heretic. The idea that the Earth orbited the Sun, conceived without the aid of any equipment, would only be proved half a century later, when Galileo built a telescope and pointed it heavenward. Fortunately, ol’ Nick’s contribution hasn’t been forgotten, and so today’s Google Doodle shows the planets all gently orbiting our nearest star.

Fujitsu Stylistic S01 smartphone

When it comes to smartphones in Europe and in North America, it is not too often that we see a brand from the Land of the Rising Sun make an appearance, but this time around, the folks over at Fujitsu must have decided to have some “pity” on these two regions, having announced a smartphone partnership alongside Orange Telecom, and they have every intention of rolling out their first ever handset, the Fujitsu Stylistic S01, in France later this June.

Just what kind of hardware does the Fujitsu Stylistic S01 pack underneath the hood? Well, we are looking at Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system of choice, where the user will also be able to enjoy GSM and HSPA compatibility thanks to Orange. One important fact to take note of is this – you might have noticed that the Fujitsu Stylistic S01 does not come with the most fashion forward of designs, and that is because it has been specially targeted at elderly users. This means you will be able to find a similar bunch of features as those on Fujitsu’s Raku-Raku series of senior-friendly handsets on NTT DoCoMo. An 8.1-megapixel camera at the back complements the VGA camera in front, and you have 4GB of internal memory to play around with. We do hope that more details will surface at MWC later this coming week.
