Anne Hathaway, Husband Go For A Stroll In Los Angeles (PHOTO)

“Les Miserables” star Anne Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman enjoyed some down time as they took out their dog for a walk in Los Angeles. The 30-year-old Hathaway, who is nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her turn as factory worker Fantine, kept it casual in an outfit of jeans, t-shirt and a mesh baseball cap that concealed her short hairdo.

Hathaway and Shulman tied the knot on Sep. 29, 2012, after four years of dating. For more photos of Hathaway and her family, click through to X17.

Chuck Hagel Confirmation Idiocy Is No ‘House Of Cards’

As I am perpetually two years behind whatever is cool and zeitgeisty on the teevee, I’ve not been watching this new Netflix joint, “House Of Cards.” Which is probably to my detriment. Our own Howard Fineman has been watching the show, and he describes an artful and innovative depiction of “the competition for power for its own sake.” And just this weekend, I was at a party where an old friend of mine spoke thrillingly of byzantine plots and cagey backstabbing — Washington as the setting for the polite bloodlust of brilliant political chess masters.

Which must be why so many people in Washington are into this show: For the escapist fantasy!

In reality, we have the House of Senate, and there’s no way of describing those people’s machinations without briefly wondering if the word “moron” is strong enough. They are on recess now, having ended their current session by simultaneously refusing to appoint former Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) to the position of secretary of defense and making it clear that Hagel is definitely going to be appointed to the post. The senators who oppose him, Republicans all, simply want to leave town and have themselves a good, long tantrum for 10 days or so, because that’s what actually passes for political genius these days.

BlackBerry says TIFF vulnerability exposes enterprise servers to malware

BlackBerry says TIFF vulnerability exposes enterprise servers to malware

BlackBerry has always prided itself on its top-notch security features, so it’s a little worrying to see the company release a “high severity” advisory today warning of a potential exploit. According to the Waterloo-based operation:

Vulnerabilities exist in how the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service and the BlackBerry Messaging Agent process TIFF images for rendering on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Essentially, hackers could rig a TIFF file with malware and then trick a BlackBerry user into loading it via webpage, email or an embedded message, thus allowing the bad guys into their company’s Enterprise Server. BlackBerry hasn’t received any reports of attacks just yet, but urges IT administrators to update their BES software all the same. The update is available at the source, as are several temporary workarounds for those that can’t update their installations just yet.

Braves Pitcher Kris Medlen On Way To Becoming Tommy John Surgery’s Greatest Success Story

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The name is not scary anymore. Pitchers used to hear Tommy John and regard it as an epithet. Tommy John never wanted to be the Angel of Death for pitchers, and yet for years the surgery named after him because he was the first person brave enough to try it made pitchers quiver. Tommy John surgery meant a torn ulnar collateral ligament, a blown-up elbow, a career in jeopardy.

Bill Gates Not Happy With Microsoft’s Mobile Phone StrategyMicrosoft chairman and former CEO, Bill Gates in his interview with CBS This Morning has been critical of the company’s mobile phone strategy calling it a clear mistake. Bill Gates was also asked if he was happy with the performance of Steve Ballmer, who he supported and said “Well, he and I are two of the most self-critical people — you can imagine. And here were a lot of amazing things that Steve’s leadership got done with the company in the last year. Windows 8 is key to the future, the Surface computer. Bing, people are seeing as a better search product, Xbox. Paul Vo Has Made an Entirely New and Impossibly Awesome Instrument

Inventor Paul Vo has developed an entirely new way to modify the sound of instruments. Stringed instruments for now, at least. Before I twist your brain into knots trying to explain how it works, take a moment to listen to the Vo-96 acoustic synthesizer in the video above. Moog teased this concept as the LEV-96 back in November, but this is our first really comprehensive look at what it sounds like. More »

Climate Change And Blizzards May Be Connected, Global Warming Studies Demonstrate

WASHINGTON (AP) — With scant snowfall and barren ski slopes in parts of the Midwest and Northeast the past couple of years, some scientists have pointed to global warming as the culprit.

Then when a whopper of a blizzard smacked the Northeast with more than 2 feet of snow in some places earlier this month, some of the same people again blamed global warming.

How can that be? It’s been a joke among skeptics, pointing to what seems to be a brazen contradiction.

Maryland Among The Most At Risk From Sequestration Cuts

Maryland is one of the states most “vulnerable” to sequestration cuts, given its dependence on federal spending, Wells Fargo said Monday.

The financial services company’s report, which underscores earlier warnings from economists, says non-defense spending makes up 10 percent of Maryland’s gross domestic product — tied with Virginia and D.C. for the biggest share nationwide.

Defense spending is nearly as large, at 9.8 percent, ranking the state third — and again tied with Virginia and D.C. — behind Hawaii and Alaska.

eBay to launch new personalized homepage tomorrow

eBay will be revamping its homepage tomorrow to give it more of a Pinterest-esque feel. This new design, while it looks very nice, will also spell trouble for your wallet. The new homepage will allow you to create a custom feed filled with your favorite interests, brands, and trends. Everytime you visit the eBay home page, new items will pop up that match your customized feed, leading to more temptation to buy things. The feed will also continuously update while you’re shopping around on eBay.

eBay will be revamping its home page tomorrow

This new look and feel was designed by eBay to help “personalize” its users’ shopping experience. By allowing shoppers to create a list composed of the items they love, eBay believes it can offer a more personalized and helpful shopping experience. The new homepage does look a lot more attractive than the current eBay layout, which currently shows your recent searches, eBay’s deals, and “popular on eBay” listings.

This new change will definitely help eBay in terms of revenue and profit, and it should make the eBay shopping experience more pleasant and fast-paced. The new homepage was tested with 10% of shoppers back in October, and it received a lot of positive feedback. eBay plans on launching a mobile app featuring the new look and feel sometime in the future.

That being said, you can actually begin customizing your eBay shopping feed right now. The feed creation wizard will guide you step-by-step through the process, starting with a list of items you have searched for in the past. You have to add 5 items to your list before you can view it. There is also an option to have updates from your list sent directly to your e-mail, which of course can result in you spending more money. Have fun shopping!
