Photoshopper recreates 320×240 Doom screenshot into high-res image

Remember the classic 1993 first-person shooter Doom? Of course you do. It’s only one of the greatest games of all time, and its graphics and 320×240 resolution set the bar for other games to eventually try to surpass. Today, though, the game certainly doesn’t stand a chance against modern first-person shooters, but one DeviantArt user recreated a screenshot from the classic game and turned it into an ultra high-res, remastered screenshot.

The remastered version looks absolutely incredible, and when comparing it to the original 320×240 version (below), it’s almost like putting on your glasses. The recreated screenshot includes all of the elements in the original version, but the new one includes textures, lighting, and 3D effects, all of which were done in Adobe Photoshop.

The person behind the remastered screenshot, who goes by the handle Elemental79 on DeviantArt, put together a video showing off he recreated the original Doom screenshot. Essentially, the image itself spans across seven different PSD files and has a resolution of 9600×7211 pixels. In all, the project took 35 hours to complete over the course of just over a week.

This isn’t the only screenshot that Elemental79 recreated from classic games. He also remastered screenshots from Contra and Killer Instinct, both of which are classic games from the late 80s and 90s, respectively. You can view the full size of the Doom screenshot on his DeviantArt page, and from there you can see the massive amounts of detail that he put into the image.

‘The Walking Dead’: The Governor Attacked, Leaving One Prisoner Dead

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 3, Episode 10 of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” titled “Home.”

Despite what he told Andrea, The Governor retaliated on the prison in this week’s “Walking Dead” and for Axel, the attack was fatal. He took a bullet to the head while having a sweet conversation with Carol in the yard and with that, the battle was on.

Glen Mazzara, the former “Walking Dead” showrunner who helmed the AMC drama through Season 3, told Entertainment Weekly that someone had to go and the choice was a harder one for him to handle than when Lori went earlier in Season 3.

The Super Easy Way Twitter Could Make All This Account Hacking Stop

Twitter accounts are getting hacked left and right. Today it was Burger King. Before that, it was the Westboro Baptist Church (Admittedly, they deserved it). And before that, it was us and Mat Honan. Hacks will always happen, but this is dumb because Twitter could make this all go away. Forever. All we need is two-factor authentication and it’s insane we haven’t gotten it yet. More »

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price, Release Date Leak [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price, Release Date Leak [Rumor]

It shouldn’t be a big surprise at this point Samsung is planning to deliver an 8-inch version of its Galaxy Note line of tablets, considering we’ve seen a number of leaked images with the device being confirmed by Samsung earlier this year. All we need right about now is for Samsung to officially unveil the Galaxy Note 8.0, which we are hearing may take place at the end of March.

The possible reveal date comes from Tablet.bg who has both the release date and price of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 8.0. According to them, the Wi-Fi version will be priced roughly at $478. The 3G Galaxy Note 8.0 is expected to sell for roughly $594, both prices originally being revealed in Bulgarian leva, which we’re sure you are fresh out of at this point.

Both prices are higher than what Apple is currently asking for its iPad Mini as its Wi-Fi version retails for $329 and 3G version $459. We certainly enjoy the Galaxy Note devices, especially the Galaxy Note 10.1, but if Samsung goes through with this pricing for the Galaxy Note 8.0, we’re not sure if potential Galaxy Note customers would be willing to pay that much for their 8-inch tablet.

‘Bar Rescue’: The Worst Bar Jon Taffer Has Ever Seen (VIDEO)

On “Bar Rescue,” Jon Taffer encountered the grossest bar he had ever seen — and that’s saying a lot. This Austin bar, Headhunters, was full of cockroaches and mold, and the owner didn’t seem to care.

“There’s a cockroach in there. That’s unacceptable,” Jon observed. “She was gonna serve that to me … It’s the worst bar I’ve ever seen.” The place was infested with roaches, which the owner claimed was common for Austin establishments.

To make matters worse, he discovered a mold problem on the ceilings. “There’s mold everywhere in these ceilings. This place has never been cleaned. All that is mold growing. It’s not connected to the ceilings — it’s falling in your drinks. That means your drinking mold,” Jon told the staff.
