Diana V. Morgan: Practicing Lent Off the Mat

Lent provides an opportunity to practice our religion — our Christianity — off the mat; we take our church “state-of-mind” home for the entire month. In living with our God off the mat we make our relationship with God our own.

Tara Woodard-Lehman: God Loves Vaginas

I can’t help but think that part of the Good News I’m called to share is this: the Church does not hate vaginas. Even better, God certainly doesn’t. Of that I’m certain.

Opera Purchases Skyfire, Expands Mobile Web Browser Capability

Opera Purchases Skyfire, Expands Mobile Web Browser CapabilityYou can say that the folks behind the Opera web browser have been kept pretty busy, where they recently announced that they will no longer support the Presto rendering engine, having decided to uproot and make a move over to Webkit. Now, we have news that they will fork out a whopping $155 million in order to pick up rival browser maker Skyfire. Similar to Opera in some ways, Skyfire has had a level of success in the mobile web browser market, where it delivers features which are not normally found on default browsers on platforms such as iOS and Android.

Both Opera and Skyfire mobile browsers are capable of playing nice with slow devices and slow Internet connections, as it will pre-render data on remote servers in order to help users save on bandwidth costs before sending images and other content to your handset. This acquisition will see Opera gain Skyfire’s software which converts Flash and other online video content into a mobile-friendly format, not to mention the Rocket Optimizer service which enables mobile operators to save further bandwidth by optimizing content prior to delivery. Captain Planet will definitely smile on this as their powers combine…

Android 4.2.2 Factory Image For Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 And Galaxy Nexus Released

Android 4.2.2 Factory Image For Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 And Galaxy Nexus ReleasedDo you happen to be a proud owner of the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 or Galaxy Nexus, where the latter two hail from Samsung, while the Nexus 4 is from LG and the Nexus 7 was forged in the fires of Mount Asus. Well, if you have answered in the affirmative, you would have known that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean has started to roll out to those devices for a few days already, and assuming you have yet to receive your OTA (Over The Air) notification to do so for Android 4.2.2, fret not – the factory image is now available for download.

Huh? Factory image, you say? What’s that in plain English again? Basically, the Android 4.2.2 factory image is a clean copy of the mobile operating system, allowing your device to work perfectly fine should your operating system end up corrupted by your own curious doing (or through a wayward and malicious app). Having said that, you might want to stash away the Android 4.2.2 in a safe place somewhere just in case things go awry later on.

Fleet of Tesla Model S owners set out to refute NYT report, coin slang for human error

Between data logs, rebuttals and general drama, it’s easy to get confused: can a Tesla Model S make the trek from Washington DC to Connecticut? A small group of Tesla fans decided to see for themselves. Meeting in DC over the weekend, seven drivers from the Tesla Motors Club forums banded together to recreate the reporter’s infamous trip to Tesla’s Milford Connecticut Supercharger, minus the Manhattan detour. The long and short? The team made the trip successfully, albeit with some minor hiccups. Most of the drivers had no trouble topping off their Tesla’s at max range, ensuring they had enough charge to complete each leg of the trip — but one car stubbornly refused to top off at a Delaware Supercharger.

After about an hour of troubleshooting, Tesla pushed a firmware update to the vehicle, found and diagnosed another bug and got the car back on the road. The lesson? A carefully planned electric road trip can lead to success, but technical errors do happen. Even so, the team had no qualms teasing the NYT reporter for his troubles, referring to “Brodering” as the act of running out of power due to human error. All in all, it seems good times were had — what else could you ask of a weekend excursion? Check out the team’s Twitter feed at the adjacent source link for additional driver updates, or check out straßenversion for a passenger account of the trip’s first leg.

[Thanks, Aravind]

Sony C6802 Could Be Next Sony Mobile Flagship

Sony C6802 Could Be Next Sony Mobile FlagshipYes, for many of us, we have yet to lay our hands on the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, but this does not mean that Sony is going to rest on their laurels. No sir, the smartphone company is hard at work on an apparent new flagship device that should take over from the Xperia Z when that particular model reaches the end of its road. What you see above is actually an unreleased model from the C680X range, where it will carry model number C6802, having its Web browser tested over at HTML5 Test.

While the leaked image shows off that it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, you ought to take notice that by the time Sony actually rolls out this particular device, we should be looking at Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie in tow, or perhaps on a lesser scale of probability, Android 4.3 Key Lime Pie. So far, the only confirmed feature would be the Sony C6802 sporting a Full HD touchscreen display at 1,920 × 1,080 resolution that ought to put it right up there with the best of Android-powered smartphones where displays are concerned.
