Cecilia Munoz, Obama Adviser, Seeks To Finish Immigration Policy Journey

WASHINGTON — Cecilia Munoz, President Barack Obama’s chief domestic policy adviser, keeps a framed letter from the late Democratic senator and immigration advocate Ted Kennedy in her West Wing office.

“We didn’t complete the journey, but we’ll get there,” Kennedy wrote in 2007 following the collapse of bipartisan efforts to overhaul the nation’s fractured immigration system.

Mary J. Blige’s Financial Problems Continue As Singer Gets Hit With $900,000 Tax Lien

Mary J. Blige’s financial issues just seem to get worse and worse.

The singer, 42, has been hit with a $901,769.65 tax lien in the State of New Jersey, according to documents obtained by TMZ. And to make matters worse, this delinquent tax issue is only one in a handful of monetary woes Blige has been faced with over the last couple of months.

The “No More Drama” songstress was just sued earlier this month for allegedly defaulting on a $500,000 bank loan. According to the lawsuit filed by Bank of America in New York State Supreme Court, Blige took out the loan in 2005 and stopped making re-payments in June 2012.

Sen. Lindsey Graham: Chuck Hagel Disavowed ‘Disturbing’ Israel Comment

Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel is facing more scrutiny from Republicans this week in light of a 2007 speech he made to Rutgers University in which he allegedly said the State Department “has become adjunct to the Israeli Foreign Minister’s office.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday that he wrote Hagel a letter about the alleged Israel comment, and Hagel replied that he did not recall making the comment and completely disavows the view. Graham said he is not entirely convinced by Hagel’s reply.

“If in fact that were true, that would end that matter,” Graham said. But he noted that Hagel also said in a 2006 interview that the “pro-Israel lobby” intimidates members of Congress and pushes them to make bad decisions. “Those two together show an edge and a view of the Israeli-U.S. relationship that is way out of the mainstream,” Graham said.

Do Colors Look The Same For All of Us?

It’s probably one of the most basic philosophical questions of childhood; “What if what I see as red is what you see as green, and we just never know?!” Well childhood and stonerdom. OK, and maybe the rest of us too. It is, after all, an intriguing proposition that mankind’s understand of color is based on a sort of misunderstanding. This week, Vsauce is tackling the question with characteristic flair. And as always, the realities of the situation are a bit complicated, but it’s all the more interesting for it. [Vsauce] More »

Inhabitat’s Week in Green: Biobot, Nintendo Power Glove and an inflatable bathroom bubble

Each week our friends at Inhabitat recap the week’s most interesting green developments and clean tech news for us — it’s the Week in Green.

DNP Inhabitat's Week in Green tktktk

This week President Barack Obama set the tone for the coming year in his 2013 State of the Union address, which advocated 3D printing and called for a speedy transition towards renewable energy to help combat climate change. The future of clean tech is already looking bright, as the world’s solar power capacity just hit a record 101 gigawatts, and researchers found a new way to charge batteries by harvesting ambient electromagnetic waves from thin air. Speaking of batteries, a new lithium-ion battery developed by USC utilizes nano-sphere technology to store three times more energy while cutting charge time down to just 10 minutes. Clean tech is invading the kitchen as well — behold the Biobot, a tabletop device that converts waste cooking oil into biodiesel.

Justin Bieber & Patrick Carney: The Black Keys’ Drummer Feuds With The Biebs On Twitter

The bizarre feud between pop heartthrob Justin Bieber and The Black Keys’ drummer, Patrick Carney, continues.

The fight began after the Grammys last week when Carney was asked about Bieber’s lack of Grammy nominations. “He’s rich, right?” Carney said. “Grammy’s are for music, not for money. He’s making a lot of money. He should be happy, I guess.”

Soon after, Bieber responded, posting on his Twitter that “The Black Keys drummer should be slapped around.”
