Terrence Ross Dunk Contest Video: Raptors’ Rookie Wins With Leap Over Ball Boy, Vince Carter Tribute

Shaquille O’Neal might just remember his name now.

In a contest that may have contained more missed attempts than successful dunks by the competitors, Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors emerged victorious thanks to a pair of impressive efforts in the final round against defending champion Jeremy Evans.

The 22-year-old rookie opened up the final round of the 2013 Slam Dunk contest by donning a Vince Carter jersey and throwing down a beautiful 360, one-handed windmill after catching an ally oop pass bounced off the side of the backboard. On his final dunk of the night, Ross passed the ball between his legs after vaulting over a ball boy en route to another one-handed slam.

NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2013: Terrence Ross Wins, James White And Gerald Green Fizzle (VIDEO)

HOUSTON (AP) — Terrence Ross had to settle his nerves at the start of the All-Star dunk contest. By the end, he was calming down a ball boy he needed as a prop for his winning slam.

The 6-foot-6 Toronto rookie leapfrogged Michael Costolo, the son of Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, whipped the ball between his legs and hammered home a one-handed dunk to beat defending champion Jeremy Evans in the climax to All-Star Saturday.

“I told him the day before that I was going to jump over him, but I never told him I was going to go through the legs,” Ross said. “He was kind of nervous. When I first grabbed him, he said, ‘You’re not going to hit me, right?’ I said, ‘No, I’m not going to hit you.'”

Obama Immigration Reform: Leaked Draft Of Bill Sets 8-Year Path To Residency

WASHINGTON — The White House is circulating a draft immigration bill that would create a new visa for illegal immigrants living in the United States and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years, according to a report published online Saturday by USA Today.

President Barack Obama’s bill would create a “Lawful Prospective Immigrant” visa for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. The bill includes more security funding and requires business owners to adopt a system for verifying the immigration status of new hires within four years, the newspaper said.

Ask Engadget: can you rent a tablet?

Ask Engadget can you rent a tablet

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, then here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is from Sarah, who would like a tablet, but only for one week a year. If you’re looking to ask one of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.

“One week every summer, I go out of town for a convention that I work with. I don’t get a lot of downtime, but when I do, I want to stay connected. A laptop’s too bulky and a smartphone just won’t have the battery life, so is there a way I could rent a tablet with a 3/4G connection for a week at a time? Thanks”

Sarah, you’ve posed your humble narrator a real head-scratcher here. We’ve hunted around online, and found some web-based services that at least promise to do what you need. One that we are familiar with is Xcom Global, who will loan you a tablet if you select one of its MiFi plans, but it’s a service designed more for international travel than a short hop like yours. We found a few places, including RentOurTablets, RentAComputer and RentFusion — but we’re not qualified to say if any of them are any good. As a consequence, it’s time to turn this question over to the Engadget community. If you’ve got any experience of services that you trust and have used before, chime in and spread a little knowledge this weekend.

Beyonce Documentary Quotes: Lessons We Learned From ‘Life Is But A Dream’

Just when we thought Beyonce couldn’t do anything more to secure her title as the reigning Queen of Pop and all things excellent, she went ahead and made a documentary.

“Beyonce: Life Is But A Dream,” an autobiographical, self-produced film starring, you guessed it, Beyonce, premiered on February 16th on HBO.

Of course there were elements of the ridiculous: Bey pensively holding a hairdryer on a Paris balcony, random prolonged shots of trees, pretty much no one speaking but Beyonce and the revelation that the singer has had a videographer filming her 24/7 for years. Still, we couldn’t help but enjoy the glimpse into the pop star’s — and her 1-year-old daughter Blue Ivy’s — life.

Marco Rubio Rejects Obama Immigration Reform Plan: ‘Dead On Arrival’

Hours after USA Today obtained the first draft of President Obama’s immigration reform plan, the office of Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) put out a press release signaling the lawmaker’s strong opposition.

“It’s a mistake for the White House to draft immigration legislation without seeking input from Republican members of Congress,” the statement begins, before going on to call the bill “half-baked and seriously flawed” and declaring that “if actually proposed, the President’s bill would be dead on arrival in Congress.”
