Steve Cohen, Victoria Brink Twitter Exchange Reveals Father-Daughter Relationship
Posted in: Today's ChiliNASHVILLE, Tenn. — U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen has revealed he’s the father of the 24-year-old Texas woman he was communicating with on Twitter during the State of the Union in an exchange that led some people to jump to a different conclusion.
Cohen, who has never been married, said Friday that he decided to publicly acknowledge Victoria Brink as his daughter after bloggers and the media tried to make the exchanges appear salacious. Cohen’s message to Brink included a Twitter abbreviation for “I love you.”

The CBBC’s Blue Peter program is the world’s longest running television program made specifically for children, run after 54 years as a magazine / entertainment show for learning and engaging with kids. This show has this week prepared an award for none other than Apple‘s Sir Johnathan Ive, here sending the designer off with the show’s “highest accolade.” Though those of you outside the UK may never have heard of this show (thumbs down to you), this award has stricken Ive (born in Chingford, London) as “absolutely incredible.”
The gold Blue Peter badge, as it’s called, is a rarity in the history of the show – so to speak – having only been given out to the most honorable of guests over the program’s many years on the air. Right around 1,000 badges have been given out, according to the BBC, others having been handed to the likes of JK Rowling, Damian Hirst, and The Queen (of England, of course).
Acting Editor of Blue Peter Ewan Vinnicombe spoke up on the event, saying that Ive “is an inspiration to children around the world.” The award was given on an episode of the show that will be broadcast on CBBC Saturday the 16th of February at 10AM GMT. In the episode, Ive conducts miniature reviews of product designs sent in to the show by Blue Peter audience members. He gives advice to the children who designed said products, and lets them know what they can do to make great products in the future as well.
Also during the show you’ll see Ive being interviewed by presenter Barney Harwood, who has Ive recalling the influence the program had on him when he was as child. Speaking about how “vividly” he remembers watching the show in his early years, Ive speaks about how he enjoyed the way the creators of the show “reused products that you though were no longer useful.” Fun stuff!
BONUS: Having been given a tip that he’d be getting a gold Blue Peter badge before going on the show, Ive came prepared. Having been handed an official badge, Ive gave Barney a giant aluminum (aka aluminium) badge in return – one that took 10 hours to craft!
Be sure to catch the program as you eat your cereal in your footie pajamas in the fabulous England morning and let us know how it goes! For those of you in the USA that’ll be asleep at that point, just bust out your typing fingers and have a search for it – the CBBC will certainly post it up sooner than later. Can’t wait!

MOCAD Renovation: Plan For Detroit Art Museum Wins Architectural Review Award (PHOTO)

The design won the Architectural Review’s 2013 Future Project award in the “Old and New” category.

Items from Charlie Trotter’s famed, now shuttered, Michelin-starred Chicago eatery are back on the auction block, months after Trotter halted an initial live auction in December when sales failed to live up to expectations.
It’s unclear if this second auction, which went live online Thursday morning, will do any better. More than 700 items, ranging from a sub-zero wine cooler to original artwork by James Beard Award-winning photographer Tim Turner, are marked at bargain basement prices — at least when you consider their historical significance and what they might cost on the open market.
Chicagoist points out that a listing for a Viennese secessionist settee is only $160, significantly less than its price at the first auction. Back in December, several Viennese secessionist chairs were up for dibs — for a minimum bid of $200 to $400 each. A settee that sold for $2,000 was the highest priced of the bunch.

Vizio’s Co-Star hub is still one of the cheapest points of entry into the Google TV world, so it’s comforting to see the set-top box getting an update — albeit somewhat behind Google’s own pace. The previously promised release mostly focuses on giving it the third-generation Google TV interface, including the mini-guide, YouTube pairing and (through a future Android app update) voice-guided search. Viewers on the prowl for more content get a few additional perks through new apps for M-Go and Vudu video streaming, as well as a truly native Amazon Instant Video app. Should Vizio’s tiny media center inhabit your living room, you can expect the upgrade to arrive over the air within the next few weeks.

Attention all you cinephiles out there. Erase all of your weekend plans become something amazing has happened. The Criterion Collection will be available for free on Hulu all weekend long. Granted, not all Criterion films are available, but you’ll find most of them on there, including some titles that Criterion hasn’t even released on DVD or Blu-ray.
Criterion announced the news via Twitter today as what we’re guessing is their own Valentine’s Weekend promotion. That would certainly make sense, since you’ll be able to sit down with your sweetheart and watch some classic cinema right from your couch while you pour over some wine and maybe even some popcorn for the full effect.
There’s a ton of these movies available on Hulu, so it may be difficult to know where to even start, but Hulu gets you on the right track by showing off the most popular titles, as well as recommended films. They even split up movies into different categories to hopefully guide you to the films that you’ll enjoy the most.
Criterion themselves recommend starting with Breathless, a 1960 film by Jean-Luc Godard about a young car thief that kills a policeman and tries to persuade a girl to hide in Italy with him. If you don’t have any plans this weekend, this might be the perfect time to check out a handful of Criterion films. Granted, you definitely won’t get through all of them over the weekend, but at least you can get a good start for now.
