Angry Birds Trilogy flutters to Wii / Wii U in celebration of one million sold

Angry Birds Trilogy flutters to Wii Wii U in celebration of one million sold

The Angry Birds and the pigs they hate so are already quite popular on mobile devices, but it turns out that the collected escapades for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo 3DS in Angry Birds Trilogy also did quite well, pushing past one million units since September 2012. Its console success is apparently enough for its Finnish progenitor, Rovio, to release the game for both Nintendo’s original Wii and the more recent Wii U at some point in 2013. The trilogy collects the first Angry Birds game with Seasons and Rio for “700+ levels.” It stands to reason that the Wii U version will take advantage of the system’s tablet-esque GamePad, but we’ll have to wait on Rovio for more info as the year goes on.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone Strategy: Fight, Survive, Improve

Microsofts Windows Phone Strategy: Fight, Survive, Improve

At  the annual Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft’s CFO Peter Klein  was asked about its mobile strategy. The question revolved around the fact that despite gains from 1.5% to 3% market share, it seemed that Microsoft’s Windows Phone business may need a Plan B. He was asked whether or not the company had such a plan and if yes, what it is. Unsurprisingly, Peter Klein replied that it’s not about having a Plan B, it’s about how to execute Plan A. “We aim to evolve this generation of Windows to make sure we have the right set of experiences at the right price points for all customers.” He replied to Reuters. Apple Reportedly Pushing Out iOS 6.1.2 Early Next Week To Fix Passcode Exploit

Apple Reportedly Pushing Out iOS 6.1.2 Early Next Week To Fix Passcode Exploit

Apple announced yesterday they plan on fixing the passcode bypass exploit found in iOS 6.1 soon, but how soon is “soon?”

According to a report from iFun, it looks as though Apple’s version of soon means early next week as Apple has confirmed with the site not only would the passcode exploit be addressed in iOS 6.1.2, but also the Microsoft Exchange bug that reportedly doesn’t allow users to retrieve their emails properly. iFun is predicting iOS 6.1.2 would be made available prior to February 21 as they’ve confirmed the timeline with its carriers.

It seems Apple has been running into more issues with its improvements to iOS than it would like to admit as they ran into Wi-Fi issues, broke its Do Not Disturb feature, and other bugs have popped up through the life of iOS 6. We’re not sure what’s up with Apple’s QA team, but judging by how many bugs have been found in iOS 6, maybe the best option for iOS 6 users is to just jailbreak their device.

Near-Earth Asteroid DA14 live video stream shown by NASA

Today you’re in for a treat if you’re interested in seeing massive hunks of space debris fly past our planet thanks to NASA. The NASA team has put together a live video stream for your enjoyment, showing the Earth flyby in real time today at 2:25 p.m. EST. For those of you wondering – no, there is no chance that this asteroid will be colliding with our planet, so you can rest easy.

livestream

The NASA Near-Earth Object Program Office has let it be known that they’ve successfully been able to predict the path of the 2012 DA14 thus far, and have no reason to believe it’ll be changing to a collision course with the planet at any time. On the other hand, this asteroid will be passing so close to the Earth that it will be inside our planet’s massive ring of geosynchronous weather and communications satellites – so if you’ve got any rogue spaceships up there you’ve been meaning to move, you should probably have already done so.

At this point in time – 11:21 AM PST you’ll see the image above showing how NASA puts the 2012 DA14 asteroid at a point closer to the Earth than we are to any of our other planetary cousins. Have a peek at the live stream here as well:

Let us know what you think of this big event and how awesome you feel it is that we’re able to watch the whole thing on the web! This sort of asteroid movement has previously been broadcast on every sort of set all the way back to black and white television, with NASA behind the helm all the way. Have a peek at the timeline below for more information on recent asteroid or meteor happenings as they occurred in our solar system over the past few weeks and months as well!

UPDATE: you can follow the asteroid in a fabulous computer simulation in NASA’s “Eyes on the Solar System” web app as well. It’s a must-see sort of situation – you can ride along with the rock!

Karma 4G Hotspot: An Awesome Stash of Just-In-Case Internet

Having the ability to set up a Wi-Fi network wherever you need one can be great, but it can also come at a cost. Hotspots come with expensive plans, and more and more often, phone tethering does too. The Karma hotspot, on the other hand, is totally pay-as-you-go, and even comes with the built-in ability to accrue a (small) stash of data completely for free. More »

Additional PS4 Controller Image Leaks Ahead Of Console Debut

Additional PS4 Controller Image Leaks Ahead Of Console Debut

A leaked PlayStation 4 prototype controller was leaked across the Internet yesterday, and today, we’re seeing an additional image of that controller pop up again today.

The leaked PlayStation 4 prototype controller that we’re seeing today looks more like the traditional DualShock controller all PlayStation owners have become accustomed to. Once again, there’s a touchpad towards the top of the face of the controller where the Start, Select and PlayStation button were originally located on the PlayStation 3′s DualShock controller. We also notice the grips of the controller look a little more slender than yesterday’s leak, which could just be due to the photo being taken at a different angle.

It’s being widely speculated Sony’s press event being held next week in New York City will debut the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be attending since it’s a media only event. The good news is we’ll be there and will pass along as much information as possible concerning the PlayStation 4, if it is in fact debuting next week.

PlayStation 4 prototype controller makes a second appearance

We’re just a weekend and a couple days away from Sony’s big PlayStation event on February 20, and we have a guess at what the company might unveil. Yes, a PlayStation 4 could be in the cards, and we’ve already seen a leaked photo of the prototype controller, complete with a touchpad. However, there’s now a second photo that provides a bit more detail.

ps4-controller

A member on the GameTrailers forum posted up a high-resolution image of the controller, where he claims he was the one that snapped the photo, although that has yet to be proven, so we remain skeptical as far as the goes. However, the controller looks to be the same one (or at least the same model) as the one we saw yesterday.

Thanks to the photo, we can see that there’s apparently a 3.5mm audio jack situated on the side of the controller, right below the “PS” logo/button. We’re guessing this for headsets, similar to how the Xbox 360 controller has its proprietary connector in the same location as well. The grips also appear to be longer as well.

The controller looks like it has concave analog sticks, and the same kind of buttons on previous PlayStation controllers. There’s also the small touchpad towards the top that may even be a small LCD touchscreen, but that is yet to be discovered. We’re keeping the salt nearby, and since this is simply just a prototype, it may not be the final version, so don’t get your hopes up if you like the look of this controller.

Lessons For Girls: Readers Share The Most Important Things They Want To Teach Their Daughters

This week, blogger Kim Bongiorno’s piece about teaching her daughter to be comfortable in her own skin — however that skin will change as she grows up — went viral.

It got us thinking about the things we try to teach the little girls in our own lives: lessons about taking ownership of their perspective, valuing people over possessions and understanding that they can be appreciated for their brains as well as beauty.

These examples are only the beginning, of course. We asked our readers on Twitter to share the most important things they want to teach their daughters, and we’re collecting many wonderful responses in the gallery below.
