Korean police contradict Samsung over fatal gas leak, say acid got into the environment
Posted in: Today's ChiliSamsung has already been given a small fine for not reporting a fatal gas leak promptly enough, but now it could be in more serious trouble. At the time of the accident, which led to the death of a maintenance contractor, the manufacturer released a statement indicating that the leak of hydrofluoric acid had been “contained.” But CCTV footage seen by investigators now suggests that some of the lethal gas reached beyond the confines of the chip plant. A local environmental group claims to have detected high levels of the gas within a couple of kilometers of the building — an area with tens of thousands of residents. Police still appear to be investigating, but if all this turns out to be true then another $1,000 ticket probably isn’t going to fix it.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 690 currently wears the world’s-fastest-graphics crown, unless you count the limited edition Ares II, by cramming two Kepler GPUs onto one mainstream board. When it comes to improving on that, some leaked European retailer listings suggest NVIDIA might not wait on a completely next-gen architecture, but may instead try to deliver similar performance through a less power-hungry single GPU design. The listings, gathered together by TechPowerUp and VideoCardz, point towards a pricey new flagship, the GeForce GTX Titan, that would be a graphics-focused adaptation of the beefy Tesla K20 computing card. It’d pack 2,688 shader units, a 384-bit memory bus and 6GB of RAM, all with one chip — for reference, the GTX 690 needs two GPUs to offer 3,072 shader units and has 4GB of RAM. There’s no confirmed unveiling date, and the primary leak on a Danish site has actually been pulled, but ASUS and EVGA are rumored to be launching their own GTX Titan variants as soon as next week, possibly in the $1,000 to $1,200 ball park. That’s a short wait for what could deliver a serious boost to game performance, not to mention bragging rights.

‘Swamp People’ Premiere: Jay Paul Jumps In The Water, Gets A Massive Gator In A Headlock (VIDEO)
Posted in: Today's Chili“Swamp People” was back with a season premiere that featured alligator wrestling in the water. Not that this was the intended plan going into the capture of 12-foot, 650-pound alligator, but Jay Paul Molinere had to improvise.
After shooting the alligator, Jay Paul realized that it was only injured. So to capture him, Jay Paul jumped into the water — with the gator! His father, R.J. Molinere Jr., was on hand, trying to give his son words of encouragement. It’s hard to fathom what it must be like to see your son putting a massive alligator into a headlock.
Jay Paul managed just that, which ultimately worked. R.J. said he was scared the gator would go into a death roll, which could have easily drowned Jay Paul. But everything came out all right in the end.

Opera has acquired Skyfire Labs, a company that deals with mobile cloud solutions and mobile video optimization and is best known for its Rocket Optimizer software. By combining the two companies, both will offer joint products, with the announcement saying that Opera’s Web Pass is one of the main focuses. The deal is expected to be final before March 15.
The Rocket Optimizer software provides mobile operators with a way to optimize video delivered over mobile data networks when traffic is high, increasing capacity by 60-percent (on average). This is achieved by shrinking the content’s size, and can be utilized near instantaneously when users are having issues with connecting to the content or with quality.
By using this, common problems experienced with streaming videos and audio are minimized, such as rebuffering, stalled buffering, and delayed start times. On top of this, Skyfire also offers another product called Skyfire Horizon, an extension for mobile browsers that allows for personalization.
Opera’s CFO/CSO Erik Harrell offered this statement. “The market opportunity for video/media optimization solutions geared towards operators and consumers is significant. After a thorough evaluation of this market, we strongly believe Skyfire is the clear leader for the future in this space.” After everything is finalized, Skyfire’s CEO will also be Opera’s Operator Business EVP. The acquisition involved an upfront $50 million cash consideration and $26 million in escrow including earn-out payments based on performance; the total acquisition figures could reach $155 million.
