TiVo Premiere now loaded with Flingo LaunchPad, nets more than 70 video apps

If that TiVo Premiere of yours still doesn’t have enough content sitting in its memory to satisfy your appetite, you’re in luck, as Flingo’s LauchPad on-demand video platform has just been baked into the hardware. Now, channel surfers can stream content from more than 70 video apps from the likes of A&E, CollegeHumor, Crunchyroll, History, Showtime and others. LaunchPad for TiVo will also feature exclusive content, but details regarding just what it might be are scarce. In addition to the bevy of streaming options, users can even “fling” online videos from other devices to their television screen with the aid of a bookmarklet. Ashwin Navin, Flingo co-founder and CEO, tells Venture Beat that he’d like to implement the firm’s SyncApps second screen tech into TiVo’s box, but that won’t be coming in the near future.

Google Launches Nexus 4 Store Locator

Google Launches Nexus 4 Store Locator

Are you a Google Nexus fan, who hasn’t found the smartphone and would love to find a location near to you that carries it? Put your worries aside, and point your browser to a specific Google Map URL. Enter your address in the store locator and find a location as close as 5 miles to your present location and as far as 50 miles from your location. The store locator can find both Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. At the moment, the store locator only points to T-Mobile stores, as they are the only retail store which has the Nexus phone. However, more stores will appear once they are added.

This seems to be a positive initiative from Google to come up with a store locator and hopefully as more places are added to the retail seller list, the store locator will provide more value. However here’s a word of caution as well. The store locator does not show any live-stock information of the stores it points out.  Do give the retailer a call before heading out so that you do not end up in a wild goose chase.

DOJ: John Brennan Didn’t Officially Disclose CIA Drones Program

WASHINGTON — John Brennan, President Barack Obama’s nominee to be director of the Central Intelligence Agency, didn’t officially acknowledge the CIA’s role in the use of drones in the targeted killing of suspected terrorists overseas during his testimony last week, a Justice Department lawyer contended in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit this week.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which is suing the CIA for information on its drone program, didn’t identify any statement “in which Mr. Brennan allegedly confirms purported CIA involvement in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for ‘targeted killing,'” DOJ attorney Sharon Swingle wrote in a filing in the CIA FOIA case on Wednesday. “Rather, plaintiffs cite instances in which members of Congress mentioned ‘targeted killing,’ and general discussions of ‘targeted killing’ that do not address the involvement of any particular agency.”

Likewise, the government contended that Rep. Mike Rogers’ (R-Mich.) statements on “Face The Nation” don’t count as “official disclosure by the CIA” of the “targeted killing” program.

Facebook Lets You Pay To Promote Your Friends’ Posts

Facebook Lets You Pay To Promote Your Friends’ Posts

You read it correctly. Facebook is all set to roll out a brand new feature for promoting posts. Users can now pay to promote posts of their friends on Facebook.  The promoted post will have greater coverage, as it will be pushed to the top of the newsfeed.

To promote a post, click on the menu button on the top right corner of the post and click promote. Users can promote friends’ posts without any permission requests. However the promoted post will only be made visible to the people, with whom the original post was shared with. This is done so that privacy concerns do not become a problem. Also, users who have 5,000 friends or less in their profiles can subscribe to this feature.  Charges are $7 for promotions and varies by area and number of people the post can reach.

Facebook began testing the feature to pay for posts in October, when it rolled out the feature to pay for promoting your own posts at $7 per promotion.  This feature did not receive warm reaction. However the new feature might help people who actively promote charity events or fundraisers, or simply people who help their friends renting out their apartments.  Would you want to pay for promoting a friend’s post, or is it a backdoor to let people pay their friends to promote their own posts? What do you think?

Samsung GALAXY Altius Smartwatch On The Horizon [Rumor]

Samsung GALAXY Altius Smartwatch On The Horizon [Rumor]

It seems that everyone is jumping on the smart watches band wagon these days. We reported a few days earlier that Apple has put together a team to create the iWatch. Samsung, it seem s, doesn’t want to be far behind in smartwatch race. Leaked pictures from a Korean message board which were spotted by Slash Gear, suggest Samsung might have a few aces of their own.

The watch is being called the Galaxy Altius, which would put the smartwatch in Samsung’s Galaxy category.  Although there isn’t a lot of information present about the specs of the watch, it is fairly simple to ascertain a few things from the leaked picture. The device seems to have a data plan associated with it, has internal memory, an OS by the name of AltiusOS Beta2 and a touch screen.  The screenshots also display an email connection of sorts. The pictures are all sized at 500 x 500 pixels, which could be pointing towards a 500 x 500 pixel resolution.

Samsung might be planning on unveiling the smartwatch design along with the Galaxy S IV in the middle of March.  Would you be willing to buy a smartwatch that doubles as your mobile phone? For now we will have to wait and see which company dishes out the first smartwatch.

Liv Tyler, Chrissy Teigen & More Stars Love Stella McCartney’s Peplum Dress (PHOTOS)

In Hollywood, it’s a stylist’s nightmare to send a celebrity client to a red carpet event in a dress that’s — gasp — already been worn by someone else. Of course, there are exceptions. Like the ubiquitous Stella McCartney peplum dress.

The latest star to jump on the bandwagon? Chrissy Teigen. The model turned up to fête Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue last night in the chic LBD from Stella’s fall 2011 collection. As usual, our Twitter crush rocked it.

Like we said, Chrissy was following in some fashionable footsteps. Best friend to the designer Liv Tyler sported a polka-dot version back in 2011, while model Brooklyn Decker wore hers just a few months ago. Kim Kardashian even gave the popular peplum a spin during a visit to the Ivory Coast. Obviously, this dress has gotten a lot of mileage the past few seasons.
