Google Now shows Google Doodles for art-loving Android users

Google Now shows Google Doodles for some Android users

Google Now holds a place for artwork, but it hasn’t had much visual variety outside of major cities — there’s only so many times you can see a generic mountain landscape before boredom sets in. To our (admittedly mild) relief, Google has quietly spiced up the area for certain users. At least some of us running Jelly Bean now see an optimized version of the latest Google Doodle while we’re busy dictating a search. Not everyone who’s technically capable is seeing the Doodle at this stage, so don’t be disheartened if there’s still a generic backdrop. If the daily image becomes more ubiquitous, though, we’ll have an extra reason to come back to Google Now for more than just weather or sports scores.

Iran’s Nuclear Upgrade Confirmed By Diplomat

VIENNA — Adding weight to its announcement of a nuclear upgrade, Tehran has shown high-level U.N. officials high-tech equipment positioned at its main uranium enrichment site meant to vastly accelerate output of material that can be used for both reactor fuel and atomic arms, a senior diplomat said Thursday.

The diplomat spoke to The Associated Press shortly after the officials returned from Tehran, acknowledging that their latest in a series of trips to the Iranian capital that began over a year ago again failed to reach a deal to restart an investigation into suspicions that Iran is pursuing nuclear arms.

Meet the French Rugby Team’s Six-Legged Scrum Bot

Rugby football is no sport for old men. This free-flowing British sport has been practiced since the 15th century—kind of a cross of American football and football (aka soccer), except that everybody is the size of a linebacker and protective gear is verboten. In addition to torn ears and broken bones, players risk spinal damage when in the scrum, which is why this six-legged rugby-bot teaches the French National Rugby Team how to move the pile in unison without breaking their individual necks. Horsemeat Auctions? Horses Sold For As Low As $50 In Shocking California Sales (VIDEO)

California’s Proposition 6, passed in 1998, criminalizes the slaughter of horses and the sale of horsemeat for human consumption within the state. It also prohibits the transport of horses out of California and to another state or country for slaughter and human consumption.

Despite this law, a CBS undercover investigation revealed that horse auctions in the state are going unmonitored, and that some of the equines on the auction block could wind up in the slaughter pipeline to become food in Asia and Europe.

CBS’ San Francisco network, KPIX, went undercover at a Northern California horse auction to try and find out what is happening to these horses. What they discovered was shocking: Horses, including former thoroughbred racehorses, were being auctioned off for as little as $50. A local horse rescuer claims these auctions are populated by “killer buyers,” individuals who snatch up horses on the cheap to be sold for slaughter.
