Though its initial spark might be as simple as lighting a match, maintaining a relationship is a complex endeavor requiring effort and attention. Using a bow, string and spindle stick to make fire is not easy, and neither is keeping a relationship alive.

We saw all the 2013 HDTVs debut last month at CES and the first few new models are starting to reach shelves. One of the more interesting sets arriving is LG’s 55-inch OLED HDTV, the first of its kind at this large size. Shipments are starting Monday for the 11 million won ($10k~) television, and according to a press release, LG has notched about 100 pre-orders so far in its home country. For comparison, LG announced it sold 300 of its 84-inch, $20k Ultra HDTV in Korea as of last month. LG also mentioned it plans to sell as many as 15 percent more HDTVs in 2013 than it did in 2012, as it continues to push its Smart and 3D features. We’re still waiting for Samsung to release its own OLED HDTVs, while this one is still slated to ship in the US in March for $11,999.

USC battery wields silicon nanowires to hold triple the energy, charge in 10 minutes
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere’s no shortage of attempts to build a better battery, usually with a few caveats. USC may have ticked all the right checkboxes with its latest discovery, however. Its use of porous, flexible silicon nanowires for the anodes in a lithium-ion battery delivers the high capacity, fast recharging and low costs that come with silicon, but without the fragility of earlier attempts relying on simpler silicon plates. In practice, the battery could deliver the best of all worlds. Triple the capacity of today’s batteries? Full recharges in 10 minutes? More than 2,000 charging cycles? Check. It all sounds a bit fantastical, but USC does see real-world use on the horizon. Researchers estimate that there should be products with silicon-equipped lithium-ion packs inside of two to three years, which isn’t long to wait if the invention saves us from constantly hunting for the nearest wall outlet.

System Shock 2 Re-released
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you have ever given Mass Effect, Dead Space, Bioshock, Borderlands, and Fallout 3 a go, you would most probably be wowed by those titles, and it might be interesting to note that System Shock 2 did influence those seminal titles in one way or another. Of course, System Shock 2 was released at a time when gaming on the computer was a whole lot more primitive, and in the 21st century, you can now play the game.
From this Thursday onwards, GOG.com, a website that specializes in selling old computer games which were specially optimized for modern PCs, will put up System Shock 2 for sale at $10. System Shock 2 has been hailed to be one of the best games ever, placing you in an eerie space station that has been evacuated, with only scattered audio logs informing you on what went wrong. Hmmm, someone should make a modern day Walking Dead shooter, except that we have zombies in space stations. Wait a minute here, hasn’t that been done in Doom already? Would you pick up System Shock 2 to relive the adventure for $10?
Basically, forking out $10 for a game that was released in 1999 and meant to run on the Windows 98 platform, but is now capable of running on a modern day PC without having to go through the trouble of preparing a legacy machine is definitely worth checking out, don’t you think so? Especially when it is deemed to be one of the top games of all times in some folks’ ranking list.

Back on September 21, we reported that Google had opened its California headquarters to the set of a Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson movie called The Internship. Now, after a few months of waiting, we finally get to see the first glimpse of the film via its trailer, which was posted to YouTube earlier today. Check it out after the jump, and get a peek into Google’s headquarters.
The Wedding Crashers duo have joined together again to make a movie about two ex-salesmen who, out of desperation, manage to land internships at Google. The trailer outlines this plot nicely, and sprinkles in a few Google HQ shots amidst laughs, including the outdoor shot you can see of the building and lawn in the image above. You can check out the full trailer in the video below.
Because Google couldn’t accomodate the movie set for several months while it filmed, large portions of the film were actually taken at Georgia Tech, and then parts and pieces from Google headquarters were spliced in amongst them. In addition to the location, the movie will also feature spots by some Google top dogs, including Sergey Brin and Hugo Barra.
Reportedly, Google doesn’t have any financial interest or involvement in the film, but has been an active participant in its creation. Eric Schmidt held an interview with Vince Vaughn, and Sergey Brin held a dinner at his home for the crew. Says Google, “We’re excited that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson chose the Google campus as a backdrop for their first film together since ‘Wedding Crashers.’ We’re sure they’ll have a humorous take on life in Silicon Valley and look forward to seeing the result.”
Trailer for The Internship released, shows off Google HQ is written by Brittany Hillen & originally posted on SlashGear.

Hulu Kids Lock Arrives On iOS
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe Kids Lock feature on Hulu for Android has been implemented for a long time already, so it goes without saying that logic dictates that Hulu’s Kids Lock feature too, will arrive on the iOS platform – or at least, on the iPad. You can deduce as much that Kids Lock intends to protect the young minds from untoward influences of media content on your iPad via Hulu, and in order to make the operations a whole lot easier, Hulu Kids Lock will arrive as a virtual button on the app, so that parents or the guardian of the child will be able to secure their little tots within the Hulu Kids experience.
Of course, when an adult takes over the iPad and wants to watch other more mature rated shows on the iPad via Hulu, the entire process is as simple as entering the account password, and you’re good to go. Other than Kids Lock, v2.7 of Hulu for iOS does not introduce any more new elements other than a handful of bugs that are being fixed, with several backend enhancements introduced to make Hulu’s iOS application a more stable experience.

If you happen to own the LG Nexus 4, surely you would be looking out in anticipation on receiving the new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system update? Well, we are pleased to report that the wait is now over, as the Nexus 4 will receive build JDQ39 of Android 4.2.2 which also appeared on other Nexus devices earlier this week, such as the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. The entire Android 4.2.2 update will weigh in at around 54MB, so make sure your handset has a full battery charge, or at least enough to be able to handle a rather lengthy download.
For those who do not feel like they want to wait, you have the choice of downloading the OTA (Over The Air) package straight from Google, and perform the installation process manually over a custom recovery or by sideloading. For those who have already applied the Android 4.2.2 update, just how do you find it so far, and have you run into any potential issues to warn the rest?

Looking to recapture the magic of the first half of Wedding Crashers, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are teaming up to become Google interns in their upcoming movie The Internship. It’s a classic tale of Vince Vaughn trying to talk his way out of ridiculously unfortunate situations by overtalking and stringing words together because it was once funny in Swingers but not nearly as funny anymore and Owen Wilson cluelessly staring in the opposite direction of his patented crooked nose’s slant wondering when his buddy Wes Anderson is going to cast him in his next movie. Which is to say, in 2013, their shtick isn’t all that funny anymore. More »
If you’re anything like us, you get slightly twitchy when you can’t use any of your WiFi-only devices when parked (or a passenger) in a car. You now won’t even have to think about whether or not you’re online, if you’re an Android user. Inrete’s new AutoTether app automatically invokes an Android phone’s WiFi hotspot as soon as the handset pairs up with a given Bluetooth device: step into a ride with a Bluetooth-equipped stereo and you’ll have an internet connection for every device inside, as long as you’re present. Inrete sees its app as a syncing tool for its Automatica car audio companion, but it clearly has uses for the kids’ Nexus 7 in the back seat or a significant other’s MacBook Air in the front. Check the Google Play link for what could be the next-best thing to a hotspot built into the car itself.
