Zumreed X2 Hybrid Headphones

They say that all good things are meant to be shared, so could this be the reason that the $139.99 Zumreed X2 Hybrid Headphones should be shared (its purchase price) with your sibling, so that the two of you are able to enjoy your favorite music pieces together? Just what are the Zumreed X2 Hybrid Headphones, and what do they do, exactly? For starters, the Zumreed X2 Hybrid Headphones will come with a unique switch that when turned on, will be able to send soundwaves all around you as the headphones now function as a pair of speakers, doing its bit to share your favorite tracks with everyone else in the room. Now, the issue arises as to whether they like your choice of music or not, but that is a different story for another day.

This pair of hybrid headphones will come with loudspeakers that have been mounted on the outside for instant sharing, and it is self-powered thanks to a built-in rechargeable battery so that you need not rely on your music-playback device’s battery source. Not only that, it can be juiced up by plugging it into a USB port, and will also play nice with any audio-source that sports a headphone jack. You know what the next generation model of the Zumreed X2 Hybrid Headphones should come with? Yes sir, I’m looking at a wireless capable model in the pipeline.

Valve Lets Go Employees Working On Hardware, Android

Valve Lets Go Employees Working On Hardware, Android

Earlier today, Valve has let go several employees who worked on Steam and Half-Life. The news was first reported on Gamasutra, but the conversation continued on the web. There is no definitive information on the motivation behind this decision but there is rampant speculation on the web. First, folks were wondering if it was the hardware group that was let go, and this sparked fear that Valve may be cancelling the Valve Steambox project. This probably came from the fact that one of the hardware designer was let go. (more…)

Trent Franks: ‘Abortion President’ Gun Stance Was Hypocritical

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s impassioned State of the Union plea to pass gun laws in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre revealed either “blindness or hypocrisy,” Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) charged.

Obama argued Tuesday that more than 1,000 people killed by guns since the slaughter at the Newtown, Conn., school at least deserve to have proposals to curb gun violence get a vote in Congress. “Now, if you want to vote no, that’s your choice. But these proposals deserve a vote,” Obama said. “Because in the two months since Newtown, more than a thousand birthdays, graduations, anniversaries have been stolen from our lives by a bullet from a gun — more than a thousand.”

But Franks said after the speech that Obama was ignoring what the Arizonan sees as a bigger problem: abortion.

Kickstarter Rhino Shield promises to protect your device from impact breaks

Evolutive Labs has started a Kickstarter project for its Rhino Shield, an impact-resistant screen protector that isn’t much larger than your average screen protector, but that promises to help shield your device from cracks and breaks. The screen protector is said to function both as a standalone piece and as part of a larger case, and can be had for the price of a single pledge.

The Kickstarter details why Gorilla Glass on handsets and tablets is not the end-all, be-all of impact resistance, demonstrating this with a couple YouTube videos that show the iPhone suffering a sad fate on the pavement and other such hard items. While a good measure, Evolutive Labs says, devices need a little extra something to help protect them from mishap.

This is where Rhino Shield steps in. The impact-resistant screen protector is very thin at 0.028cm thick, with most screen protectors measuring in a tad less than that at 0.015 to 0.020cm. Like other display protectors, it has an adhesive backing, and is said to have a “silky smooth” texture. Rhino Shield is said to feature “scratch resistant nanometer coating” to protect against scratches, and to have an anti-fingerprint oleophobic coating to guard against smudges.

Sadly, there aren’t any videos of the protector in action, but there is a two-shot series of images showing a large metal ball over a piece of the plastic, then another picture of the damage inflicted, which you can check out via the link below. Evolutive Labs is seeking £50,000 in pledges, having so far received 152 backers for a total of £2,562. If you’re interested, you can get a Rhino Shield of your own in April by pledging £12 or more.

Oh My God, Some Guy Was Trapped in a Car Stuck at 125MPH and Somehow Didn’t Die

This sounds ridiculously stressful: Frank Lecerf was driving his car adapted for the disabled in France when it got stuck at 60MPH. He tried to brake. The car accelerated. He tried to brake again. It kept getting faster. Finally, the car ended up stuck zooming at 125MPH and there was no way to stop it. Lecerf drove for over an hour at 125MPH and somehow didn’t even get in an accident. More »

Election Reform: Presidential Commission Too Little, Activists Say

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s creation of an independent Presidential Commission on Election Administration to address voting problems has sparked debate among voting rights activists.

The commission, to be chaired by Bob Bauer, former general counsel for the Obama campaign, and Ben Ginsberg, former election lawyer for Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign, is tasked with finding “common-sense, non-partisan solutions” to “reduce waiting times at the polls and improve all citizens’ voting experience,” the White House said Tuesday night.

The commission’s formation, announced by Obama during his State of the Union address, follows previous comments from the president about long lines at polls. He remarked during his November election victory speech, “By the way, we have to fix that.”

Nathan Mitcham, Student With Special Needs, Joins Basketball Game For First Time (VIDEO)

Nathan Mitcham won’t soon forget the night of Feb. 12, when thousands of fans crowded into a gym in Owasso, Okla., and cheered his name.

That evening the Owasso High School senior took the court for the first time, and, surrounded by an energetic crowd, proceeded to land 8 points in the game’s last minutes, helping secure a 20-point victory.

As the Tulsa World reports, until that night, Mitcham, a student with special needs, had managed the team from the sidelines, content to participate without donning a jersey.
