Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth Arrives For Windows Phone 8

Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth Arrives For Windows Phone 8Folks enjoying Angry Birds Star Wars on the Android platform have had their fair share of new levels to play with in the past, but for Windows Phone 8 users, they had to be a whole lot more patient. Well, we are glad to announce that at long last, the Angry Birds Star Wars Hoth update is now available for everyone who totes a Windows Phone 8 device. The first release of Angry Birds Star Wars saw Tatooine, the Death Star, and the Jedi Trials on Dagobah on the majority of platforms out there, and while the Hoth update arrived elsewhere last year, Windows Phone 8 users had to wait for nearly two-and-a-half months.

Good thing this update will merge the two previous Hoth releases, meaning you get to enjoy a grand total of 40 new levels, in addition to some bonus levels, but unfortunately, the Hoth levels arrive locked by default, meaning you will need to replay the Tatooine and Death Star worlds if you had deleted the game beforehand. You know what they say – angry birds of a feather smash together…

Bloomberg: 100 people are working on the Apple watch

Bloomberg 100 people are working on the Apple watch

Apple’s wearable computing project might not just be the fever-dream of analysts, if Bloomberg is to be believed. The news agency is claiming that Apple’s watch project is commanding considerable resources within Cupertino’s shadowy prototype labs. Two people who claim to be familiar with the company’s plans are saying that engineering chief James Foster and program manager Achim Pantfoerder are heading up a team of around 100 designers, programmers and engineers. Bloomberg goes on to say that the watch will tie in to the iPhone and iPad, but, understandably, received a terse no comment when it approached Apple directly.

Airline Industry Is Safest Today

Airline Industry Is Safest TodaySince the dawn of the jet age, there has been safety concerns in the airline industry, but today would be the safest period ever, so if you are scared of flying on a commercial jetliner, it would never have been safer. In fact, for folks living in the US, it has been exactly four years since the last fatal crash happened there, making it an unmatched record to date. Around the globe, 2012 marked the safest year since World War 2 ended in 1945, where 23 deadly accidents and 475 fatalities were recorded according to the Aviation Safety Network, which was less compared to under half the 1,147 deaths which happened in 42 crashes in the year 2000.

Do bear in mind that flying might be safer than ever, but it is not entirely risk-free. With air traffic set to grow in the next 10 years, airports will get more congested, and statistically speaking, it would also increase the number of near-misses on runways and taxiways, with the element of an accident risk going up as well. If there is a takeaway message from this story, do bear in mind that a traveler could fly every day for an average of 123,000 years before being involved in a fatal crash. Pretty good odds compared to driving, or even being a pedestrian, no?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Lacks S-Pen And Retains Home Button (Rumor)

Samsung Galaxy S4 Lacks S Pen And Retains Home Button (Rumor)The upcoming flagship smartphone from Samsung is said to be the Samsung Galaxy S4, and you can bet your bottom dollar that plenty of rumors have started to circle around it like a vulture over some carcass. Well, here are more rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S4 for you to mull over – it is said to no longer include the S-Pen feature, but will boast of non-contact gesture support. Heck, there is also the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy S4 retaining its Home button, and of course, we do hope that all will be revealed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain.

The device will be available by end of March, and it does seem as though Samsung is bent on selling the Samsung Galaxy S4 right after the announcement of the smartphone at MWC 2013. Other rumors include a possible 4.99” Full HD AMOLED display at 1080×1920 resolution among others. Are you already looking forward to upgrade your Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy S4 when it arrives?

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE Comes In Garnet Red

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE Comes In Garnet RedSamsung has decided to throw in another color where the Galaxy Note 10.1 with LTE model is concerned, introducing this tablet in a shade of Garnet Red. The South Korean consumer electronics giant intends to position this dark cardinal-colored tablet as the ideal material, shaping up in time for Valentine’s Day, where they hopefully think that it would be appealing enough to move the hearts (and subsequently, pockets) of one to make a carefully weighed decision of purchasing a new tablet for their other half.

The Garnet Red version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 with LTE will be made available to all three mobile carriers in the US, while other markets worldwide should be picking up the slack in due time. We do wonder whether this marketing strategy would work or not in the long run, as the Galaxy Note 10.1 with LTE is not exactly Nintendo DS material, where folks would flock to make a purchase each time a different color or livery is released.

William Shatner gets “Vulcan” name option added for Pluto’s moons

Earlier this week, the scientists responsible for discovering the fourth and fifth moons of Pluto turned to the Internet for names, allowing the public to vote on one of a dozen options, including such titles as Heracles, Erebus, Cerberus, and Persephone. Thanks to the urging of William Shatner, who is perhaps most known for his roll in Star Trek, a thirteen option has been added to the ballot: Vulcan.

shanter star trek

Although the first thought when most people hear the word “Vulcan” is the Star Trek race, it is in fact the name of the Roman god of lava and smoke. Even better and more applicable to the situation, Vulcan is also the nephew of Pluto in mythology. Shatner had also suggested another name, Romulus, which is sadly already taken by another moon.

Nevertheless, in an update posted on its official Pluto Rocks! website, the SETI Institute thanked Shatner for his recommendations, and officially updated the ballot to include Vulcan. For those who don’t know, the names given to Pluto’s other moons all have a particular meaning or purpose, and Vulcan would fit right in with them.

Pluto is named after Hades, Greek god of the underworld, a name chosen decades ago by a child named Venetia Burney. Pluto’s largest moon has the befitting name Charon, which is the boatsman who would take the souls of the recently deceased across Styx to Hades’ playground (Styx is one of the names on the ballot, by the way). You can check out the complete list of names on the ballot here, as well their meaning. Once you’ve made your choice, you can cast your vote here.
