Fiat is set to launch its Alfa Romeo 4C sports car later this year, but until then, the manufacturer has released three pictures of the attractive vehicle, along with its specs. Although none of the numbers are final and could end up changing by the time the final vehicle rolls around, the Alfa Romeo 4C is said to get about 235bhp with from its 4-cylinder 1750 Turbo Petrol innards. Likewise, the car is said to have a power-to-weight ratio of 4 kilograms/horsepower, which Recombu reports at being about 4.5 seconds from 0 to 62mph.

The car tries to strike a balance between being fuel efficient and fast, offering dual continuous-variable valve timing, direct gas injection, and a so called “scavenging control system.” The engine has torque up to 1,400rpm, and there’s an Alfa TCT auto transmission, which allows for manual shifting via paddles behind the wheel, but not traditional manual transmission driving.

Much like a camera features image presets, the Alfa Romeo 4C will feature driving presets that they driver can toggle through for different driving experiences: Natural, All-Weather, Dynamic, and Race, the last of which is new. The car will be priced at about £35,500/$55,700USD, although the price is also subject to change. As the release date for the vehicle nears, more final numbers will be released, including both specs and pricing.

FCC: 41 percent of Lifeline phone subsidies in 2012 weren’t verified

FCC commissioners late 2012

The FCC took significant steps to cut the waste from its Lifeline phone subsidy program at the start of last year. However, it might not have gone far enough, if an FCC review of the program prompted by the Wall Street Journal is an indicator. Among the top five providers receiving money for telecom service to the poor in 2012, 41 percent of their customers either couldn’t or didn’t prove they were eligible. The lack of answers leaves a real possibility that some of the $2.2 billion spent on Lifeline in 2012 might have gone to those who didn’t need it. In response, the FCC is keen to claim that its reforms may have saved $214 million last year, but it isn’t happy that there may still have been money going down the tubes — it’s investigating the accusations and could levy fines of up to $1.5 million per violation. While only Verizon has gone on the record and says it’s been dropping customers who wouldn’t prove their eligibility, it’s likely we’ll know more about the potential excesses in the near future.

Richard (RJ) Eskow: 8 Subjects Senators Should Bring Up At Jack Lew’s Confirmation Hearing Today

On Wednesday the Senate Finance Committee will hear from Jack Lew, the President’s pick as Treasury Secretary, who will succeed the controversial Tim Geithner if confirmed. While Lew wouldn’t be taking office during a grave systemic crisis the way Geithner did, it remains a crisis-driven job as long as millions of Americans continue to experience their own personal economic emergencies.

The Treasury Department’s website says that the Treasury Secretary serves as the “President’s principal economic advisor.” The Secretary is also the chief American representative to the International Monetary Fund and other international banks, serves as Board Chair and Chief Trustee for the Medicare and Social Security Trust Funds, and has significant influence on Federal Reserve policy.

Republican Senators like Chuck Grassley may ask some excellent questions, but some of his colleagues are likely to be in attack mode. Here are eight lines of constructive Senators should pursue, along with some specific questions for each of them.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has made no secret of his support for hydraulic fracturing, but on Tuesday he went one big step further and testified that he actually drank fracking fluid.

“You can drink it. We did drink it around the table, almost ritual-like, in a funny way,” Hickenlooper said before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

Which Breed Won The ‘Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show’ For The First Time Ever? (VIDEO)

A little dog was the top banana at the “Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.” It was the first time the breed took “Best in Show” when Banana Joe took the top honors for 2013. A 5-year-old affenpinscher from Massachusetts, Banana Joe beat out 3,000 other dogs for the ribbon.

“Its almost indescribable. I think it’s just a wonderful thing, as a tribute for a small breed with such a big heart. I think he wins everybody’s heart and he just proved it,” his handler, Ernesto, said.

The win marked a major milestone for Banana Joe, as well as the end of his show career. This marked his 86th best-in-show title, and after taking home the big prize, Banana Joe is going to retire. And because he’s earned it, he’ll be traveling overseas to enjoy his retirement in his native Netherlands.

BlueStacks launches Android player for Windows 8, brings apps to your PC

Back in December, we reported that BlueStacks had launched for Mac OS X, bringing with it almost a million Android apps for Mac users to enjoy on their laptops. Now the company has officially rolled out its App Player for Windows 8, bringing those same Android apps to devices running Microsoft’s operating system.

BlueStacks had originally said it would be launching a Windows 8 version of its App Player over a year ago. Users can grab the App Player download from BlueStack’s website, then install it and begin downloading their favorite Android apps. This provide thousands of app options to certain Windows 8 devices, such as the Surface Pro, with the number of native app offerings for the devices being exceptionally low.

BlueStacks’ CEO Rosen Sharma had this to say: “We’ve had our users asking for a Win8 version for a long time. Now that it’s finally available on our website we’re looking forward to getting feedback and building on the experience. The number of mobile apps being written overall is expanding exponentially and Microsoft has not added apps to the handful it has. Our goal is to get people more value out of their Surface Pro and Win8 devices.”

BlueStacks has penned deals with multiple OEM partners thus far, which have added an unspecified number of downloads on top of the over 5 million App Player downloads the company has already experienced. If you want to get your favorite Android apps on your PC, head over to GetYourAppsBack.com and download the App Player.
