Second-Term Obama Is Apparently Way Into Dubstep

The White House, on its website, will be offering State Of The Union junkies the opportunity to watch an “enhanced” version of President Barack Obama’s speech tonight. What are the enhancements? First and foremost, charts and graphs and data. Lots of charts and graphs and data. Joe Scarborough is going to just hate it.

What else is the White House offering? Well, if the preview video it released is any guide, there will be lots of dubstep, to rock all you bros’ faces off:

iPad Business Experiencing Strong Slow Down [Analyst]

Based on Data gathered by IDC, Citi believes that the iPad business is in the midst of a serious slow down, if not downright fall in certain regions in the world. For instance the IDC numbers suggest that the iPad fall by 9% in the USA, and by 26% in Japan, while it grew by 17% in Europe, which brings the worldwide growth for the 4th quarter 2012 to 1.8%. Citi compares this to a 111% growth in the same period for the year 2011. It is fair to say that IDC’s numbers are contested and can’t be independently verified by Ubergizmo at this time. (more…)

Verizon HTC Droid DNA Receives Update To Improve Connectivity & More

Verizon HTC Droid DNA Receives Update To Improve Connectivity & More

The HTC Droid DNA released this past November, and we liked it for its ability to offer a full HD screen experience right in the palm of your hand. It did have a few issues, but Verizon is planning to roll out an update for the device that will hopefully help with its growing pains.

Verizon published a blog post earlier today where they promise to update the HTC Droid DNA that will have its users benefitting from both better connectivity of its hotspot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and additional functions. The 2.04.605.2 710RD update will also correct time stamps for incoming texts and feature an enhanced Recent Apps functionality as well as better audio quality for wired headsets.

The update should be available for HTC Droid DNA owners, which you can initiate the update process by going to Settings > Software Update > Status on your device. Hopefully there’s enough in the update to help you forget that you’re still running Android 4.1 while Android 4.2 is rolling out on other devices today.

Divoom announces ONBEAT-X1 Bluetooth gaming speaker

One company that’s looking to break into the wireless speaker market for gamers is Divoom, who just announced today a new Bluetooth gaming speaker called the ONBEAT-X1. The speaker has specially-designed suction cups on the back that allow you to easily stick the speaker onto the back of a smartphone or tablet for better audio quality.

The new speaker features force feedback, which Divoom calls “Vibration Bass,” and it essentially reacts to gaming actions with shakes and vibrations for a more realistic experience when it comes to gameplay. The ONBEAT-X1 Bluetooth gaming speaker also provides 8 hours of music playback, thanks to the built-in lithium ion battery that’s rechargeable via microUSB.

The speaker works with all Bluetooth devices, including pretty much all smartphones and tablet, but if you don’t have a Bluetooth-enabled device, you can plug directly into the speaker using a traditional 3.5mm audio cable that comes included with the package. You’ll probably get better quality through the cable anyways, since Bluetooth tends to degrade audio quality just a tad.

As far as pricing and availability, the ONBEAT-X1 will be on sale starting later this month, and it will be available in either black or white. You’ll be able to pick one up for $39 once they become available. The speaker comes with suction cups to attach to your device, a microUSB cable for charging, and a 3.5mm audio cable for connecting to non-Bluetooth devices.

Dropbox for Teams adds an admin console for cloud storage overlords

Dropbox for Teams adds an admin console for cloud storage overlords

Although Dropbox made a concerted push into pro-grade cloud storage with Dropbox for Teams more than a year ago, it didn’t have a truly centralized place for a team’s overseers to keep tabs on everyone involved. An update today brings in a console to make sense of it all. Along with providing a much simpler at-a-glance view of goings on across an entire group, the console lets administrators tighten access limits from user to user: they can prevent people from using their personal smartphones and tablets with the corporate account, for example, and can ask certain people to sign in with two-factor authentication if there’s more of a risk. The refresh might rain on the parades of those who want to use their Teams accounts for both work and play, but it’s good news for companies that would rather not risk malware or other rude surprises.
