LG Optimus G Pro revealed with beastly Full HD display

This week the folks at LG have revealed their fair share of smartphones, not the least of them being the LG Optimus G Pro, a device we’ve seen several peeks of before. This device works with a massive 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. This device will be unleashed in South Korea first and has not yet been confirmed for Europe or the United States.

The device we’re seeing here is an extension of the excellence we’ve already seen both inside and outside of the United States with the LG Optimus G. That device worked with the first quad-core processor in a smartphone to hit the United States and also became the basis for the design of the multi-national ultra-popular Google Nexus 4. With sales of the LG-made Nexus 4 and Optimus G remaining strong several months after release, LG clearly hopes to extend their success through to Spring.

This LG Optimus G Pro comes with a beastly 3,140 mAh battery that’ll last you all night long and will be popping up with a 13 megapixel camera on its back. Inside you’ll also find 2GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot for memory extension. This device is bringing on native 4G LTE connectivity for South Korean carriers as well.

BONUS: This device will be coming in Platinum White and Indego Black via NTT Docomo – how those shades differ from regular white and black, we do not know!

The LG Optimus L7 II, L5II, and L3 II have all been shown off to take on the 2013 mainstream market. We’ll be getting our hands on these devices without a doubt when we head to Mobile World Congress 2013 – join us later this month!

Intel Set To Launch Internet TV Platform, With Set-Top Box And Camera

Intel Set To Launch Internet TV Platform, With Set Top Box And Camera

By the end of December, rumors had started to surface about Intel’s intentions of joining the race for providing Internet TV, alongside Apple. Erik Huggers, General Manager of Intel Media, has confirmed that Intel is indeed working on providing internet television. “We have been working for around a year now to setup Intel Media — it’s a new division that includes a lot of people from outside of the company. We’ve hired people from Apple, Netflix, Google, BBC, etc. We’re aiming to develop an internet television platform. My opinion is that not many of those rivals have cracked it — have truly delivered” commented Erik at AllThingsD’s D: Dive Into Media conference. (more…)

Netflix and DreamWorks to launch original show for kids in December

Netflix and DreamWorks launch original show for kids

While Netflix is trying to lure in the grown-ups with the launch of House of Cards, it’s not leaving kids without their own choice of original material. DreamWorks plans to follow up the July release of its animated movie Turbo with a Netflix-only series, Turbo FAST, in December. The episodes will arrive on the service roughly in line with DreamWorks’ 2013 slate of movies, including Turbo. Young viewers may well be happy, but Turbo FAST and the larger DreamWorks deal could be that much more satisfying for Netflix itself — they’re potential foils to Amazon’s multi-show plans that could keep some subscribing families from jumping ship.

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard for iPad Mini: GTD on Teeny Keys

After using an iPad, I had a hard time understanding the need for a smaller tablet, until I played with an iPad Mini at an Apple Store. They are very light and compact compared to a regular-sized iPad. If you’ve been itching to GTD, but were missing a physical keyboard for your iPad Mini, check out this one from Logitech.

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Mini magnetically attaches itself to the iPad Mini, kind of like the version they make for the iPad. It’s supposed to transform the iPad Mini into a functional mobile computer. It also serves as a display stand.

While the keys aren’t full-sized, this is still a good option if you really need tactile keys to get your work done.

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Mini sells for $79.99(USD) and will start shipping later this month in both black and white versions.

BlackBerry Z10 Uses Galaxy S3 Level Hardware

BlackBerry Z10 Uses Galaxy S3 Level HardwareAfter a new device has been launched, there’s the initial hands-on time, followed by a complete review, and of course the teardown comes at some point so that we can know what the “guts” of the device are. UBM TechInsight has taken a BlackBerry Z10 unit apart and found that BlackBerry is using a Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 (MSM8960) in the company’s latest smartphone. We expected as much in our own complete review of the Blackberry Z10 and said then that ” We wouldn’t be surprised if we heard further down the road the processor turning out to be a Snapdragon processor”. Smarter Stand for iPhone doubles as a cable wrapper

Accessories are a dime a dozen nowadays, and only clever ones usually make it through. The Smarter Stand is back, only this time it’s for the iPhone. We’ve talked about the Smarter Stand for iPad in past, and now the company is back on Kickstarter attempting to raise funds for an iPhone version, but this one is a little different.

The Smarter Stand for iPhone is essentially a stand and a cable wrapper in one. It has forks at both ends that make it easy to wrap earbuds around, and one end has a notch for the earbud cable to slide into. Not only does that notch keep your earbuds from unraveling, but it also acts as the pivot point to adjust the angle of the stand.

The stand also comes with an outer extension on one side that keeps your iPhone propped up. Plus, it works with or without a case, and it can even act as a stand at the same time that it acts as an earbud wrapper. The notch has the headphone jack sticking out, so you can easily just plug your earbuds into your iPhone (for that pivot point), and then rest the phone on the stand. However, if you want sound to come out of the phone’s speakers, you just simply unplug the earbuds part way.

So far, the Smarter Stand has raised almost $12,000 with their goal being $15,000. The project still has 58 days to go at the time of this writing, so the stand is very well on its way to getting funded. The best part is, the Smarter Stand for iPhone is only $12, which we’re definitely surprised by even if it’s just a small piece of plastic. Most minimalistic stands can cost over $20, so this is definitely on the cheaper end.

Hot Wheels’ Crazy Carcade Is a Demolition Derby In a Pinball Machine

Vuzix’s Wrap 1200AR glasses do 3D augmented reality for $1,499

Vuzix Wrap 1200AR glasses

We saw Vuzix shift to a more Google Glass-esque set of smart glasses at CES in January, but it looks like it’s not about to abandon the more traditional wrap-around headsets it’s been churning out year after year. The company’s latest is the Wrap 1200AR, which is a lot like its Wrap 1200VR headset, but with a focus on augmented reality instead of virtual reality. That means you’ll get two (VGA) cameras mounted on the front to capture stereoscopic video of your surroundings, along with a pair of displays (852 x 480 each) to view that video — augmented or otherwise — in 3D. As with the Wrap 1200VR, the glasses also come equipped with head-tracking technology, but they don’t come cheap. These will set you back a hefty $1,499, and are available to order now.
