Don Johnson Lawsuit: Actor Wins $19 Million From ‘Nash Bridges’ Contract

It’s a good day to be Don Johnson.

The 63-year-old was awarded $19 million in his lawsuit over revenue from the series “Nash Bridges,” which ran from 1996 until 2001, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

A jury first awarded the actor $23.2 million in 2010, and then the judge awarded $28.5 million in interest, bringing the total to more than $50 million, but the award was cut down to $15 million when the production company appealed last October, according to Variety.

North Carolina Unemployment Insurance Bill A ‘Grievous Blow’ To Families: Labor Secretary

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Labor Department has warned North Carolina legislators that their controversial plan to slash unemployment benefits will cost the state $780 million in federal funds and cast a “grievous blow” on the state’s working families.

“I have no discretion to stop it,” Seth Harris, the department’s acting secretary, said in a statement on the state losing eligibility for federal funding. “As a result, families struggling to secure their place in the middle class will suffer a grievous blow, and the state’s economy will lose $780 million in federal funds that are vital to reducing North Carolina’s high unemployment rate.”

As HuffPost has reported, the state’s lawmakers have been pushing a bill that would reduce the maximum weekly benefit for an unemployed worker from $530 to $350, as well as cut back their maximum duration to between 12 and 20 weeks. Due to federal guidelines, the cuts would mean that North Carolina could no longer take advantage of long-term unemployment insurance supplied by the federal government.

Intel confirms new internet-based television streaming product, ‘working with entire industry’ to launch this year

Intel confirms new internetbased television streaming product, 'working with entire industry' to launch this year

Welp, the rumors are true. Erik Huggers, Corporate VP & GM for Intel Media, just sat down here at D:Dive Into Media 2013 in order to confirm that Intel’s getting into the set-top / TV provider business, and everything will be delivered to your home using your existing broadband internet connection. Straight from the man’s mouth:

“We have been working for around a year now to setup Intel Media — it’s a new division that includes a lot of people from outside of the company. We’ve hired people from Apple, Netflix, Google, BBC, etc. We’re aiming to develop an internet television platform. My opinion is that not many of those rivals have cracked it — have truly delivered.

For the first time, we’ll deliver a few things to consumers. We’ll deliver a new consumer electronics product under a new brand. It’s associated with Intel, but you’ll have to wait to hear what exactly that is. It’ll be an Intel-powered device with beautiful industrial design. Where it really gets interesting is here — we’re working with the entire industry. It’s an over-the-top service, delivering network channels, pay-TV channels, catch-up television, on-demand, and a host of applications.”

He also affirmed that the box (and service) would launch “this year,” and while the box won’t provide Intel’s “entire vision” at launch, a fair amount will be. That should include live television, on-demand, and catch-up. We’re guessing it’s the app ecosystem that’ll take some time to truly develop.

NVIDIA Project SHIELD demoes PC-bound Need For Speed: Most Wanted

Today the folks at NVIDIA are once again showing off the PC-streaming prowess of their Project SHIELD device with none other than the game Need For Speed: Most Wanted. It’s not often that a game with this much heavy-duty need for graphics backup is seen on a device smaller than a desktop computer – but here it is, in full-on instant-gratification streaming action from the comfort of your couch. Project SHIELD is a device that will soon be delivered by NVIDIA to a retail store near you – at the moment it’s still in production.

The NVIDIA Project SHIELD device you’re seeing here consists of an amalgamation of gaming excellence, including soft plastic grips, a lovely high definition display, and an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor under the hood. The whole device runs with Android for high-powered mobile games and has the ability to stream games from a computer in your home network wirelessly – GeForce GTX to the rescue!

This is just one of several games that’ll be optimized for play between your NVIDIA GeForce-toting computer and Project SHIELD. While thus far NVIDIA has been focusing on games that can be streamed via Valve’s Steam, today the focus is EA Games. The connection today is made with Need For Speed: Most Wanted, but as our NVIDIA host reminds us, Battlefield 3 will also work right out of the box. Each of these games works with a pre-set mapping of controls to the NVIDIA Project SHIELD device, allowing you to jump right in without a hiccup.

With Project SHIELD packed with an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, you know you’ve got an undeniable 72-core GPU under the hood. When you’re working with a game streamed from your PC, you’re also using the graphics processing power of your GeForce GPU. In this case the computer does “all the heavy lifting” as NVIDIA’s Will Park notes, allowing you to work with the game at its full-on usability and graphics potential.

Have a peek at the timeline below for additional insight into this beast of a device and gaming environment as it all unfolds through the future – right here on SlashGear. Along with it, be sure to head to our NVIDIA Tegra hub for more Tegra than your eyes can handle!
