Christopher Dorner Falsely Claims Rolando Solano, LAPD Captain, Beat Rodney King

Christopher Dorner, the fugitive ex-Los Angeles cop who has declared “war” on the LAPD, made an inaccurate claim in his nine-page manifesto.

Dorner, 33, wrote that “an officer seen on the Rodney King videotape striking Mr. King multiple times with a baton on 3/3/91 … is now a Captain on the police department.”

“Captain Rolando Solano is now the commanding officer of a LAPD police station (West LA division),” Dorner wrote. “Do you trust him to enforce department policy and investigate use of force investigations on arrestees by his officers?”

The Weirdest Thing on the Internet Tonight: The Box

It’s all fun and games with the fart box until someone craps on the carpet. Luckily we’re not dealing with horse-sized ducks. Dave Johnson: You Should Be Outraged By What Is Being Done To Our Postal Service

You are probably hearing that the Post Office is “in crisis” and is cutting back Saturday delivery, laying people off, closing offices, etc. Like so many other “crises” imposed on us lately, there is a lot to the story that you are not hearing from the “mainstream” media. (Please click that link.) The story of the intentional destruction of the US Postal Service is one more piece of the story of crisis-after-crisis, all manufactured to advance the strategic dismantling of our government and handing over the pieces to billionaires.

Here are a few things you need to know about the Postal Service “crisis”:

North Korea Might Have Just Tested a Nuclear Bomb (Update: North Korea Confirms)

Verizon details Droid DNA update, hints at menu key software option

Despite our love for the Droid DNA, it has a few flaws that are hard to ignore. Perhaps most vexing is the lack of an option to map the contextual menu button to the recent apps key. Fortunately, we’re now hopeful that Verizon will remedy the situation. Big Red just posted an overview of a forthcoming software update, and among the line items, it’s said that users can expect “enhanced recent apps functionality.” As you can see, the wording is frustratingly vague and open to interpretation, but the fix is logical and would follow precedent from HTC. Other changes are more clearly spelled out, such as improved WiFi and hotspot connectivity, better audio quality when using a wired headset and correct timestamps for incoming messages. Esquire Navy SEAL Article Wrongly Claims Health Care Was Denied: Stars And Stripes Report

Esquire’s interview with the Navy SEAL who shot and killed Osama bin Laden is under fire for a questionable segment surrounding the military service member’s health care.

Writer Phil Bronstein’s piece, published Monday and entitled “The Man Who Killed Osama bin Laden … Is Screwed” details some of the hardships experienced by the Navy SEAL since his September 2012 exit from the military. Among the claims put forth by the magazine — a loss of benefits due to his decision to leave prior to 20 years of service.

“… the Shooter will discover soon enough that when he leaves after sixteen years in the Navy, his body filled with scar tissue, arthritis, tendonitis, eye damage, and blown disks, here is what he gets from his employer and a grateful nation:

Nike confirms its not working on a FuelBand Android app

Back in October, Nike rolled out some new colors for its Nike+ FuelBand, as well as rolling it out in retail stores and on its online store. Before that, however, back in early 2012, Nike had stated that it was working on an Android app, which was supposed to be released last summer. That time has come and gone, however, and now the company has confimed that it is not working on such an app, instead dedicating its efforts to iOS.

Screen-Shot-2012-10-31-at-11.30.18-AM

Earlier today, Nike sent out an update via its @NikeSupport on Twitter to a user stating: “Right now, we’re focused on iOS and web. We’re not working on an Android App.” And just like that, many patient Android users groaned in collective disappointment. The Android app would have allowed users to pair the device with their smartphone or tablet, but for now at least, that remains only possible for iOS users.

This is particularly disappointing to those who invested in the FuelBand under the promise that an Android app was in the works, only to find out that they’re indefinitely limited in how they can use it. The folks over at Droid Life received a statement from Nike on the matter, which said that the company has made this decision in order to provide the best experience “for all Nike+ FuelBand users.” All except Android users, it would seem.

The move seems particularly strange considering that Nike has released other fitness-related apps for Android, including Nike+ Running, which was released last summer when the FuelBand app was originally slated. The way the statement from Nike was phrased didn’t rule out the possibility of seeing an Android FuelBand app in the future, but for now at least, those without an iOS device will have to keep using their computer instead.

Susie Tompkins Buell: One Billion Rising

Why aren’t women and girls rioting the streets in protest of violence? Have we learned to accept violence as part of our global culture? Is this the kind of world we want our children and grandchildren to inherit? Have we given up? The answer is a resounding and an unequivocal NO.

Remember the Hilarious Horror of Geocities with This Website

Oh my god. This is perfect. Because things on the Internet never really die and because old terrible things on the Internet eventually become wonderful and especially because Geocities was so hilariously awful, One Terabyte of Kilobyte Age is my new favorite website. It posts screenshots of old Geocities pages in all their blinging, blinking, clip art, galaxy background glory. I can’t get enough of this. More »
