Amanda Knox Grants First Television Interview To ABC News

Amanda Knox will give her first television interview since being acquitted of murder to ABC News.

Knox, an American student, was cleared of murder in 2011 after spending four years in jail. She will sit down with Diane Sawyer for an interview, which will air as a primetime special on April 30.

ABC News reportedly did not pay Knox for the exchange, which will coincide with the release of Knox’s book, “Waiting to Be Heard.” The network’s announcement on Monday put an end to a year-long competition for the coveted interview.

Afghanistan Withdrawal Begins Through Pakistan Route As U.S. Pulls Out Equipment

ISLAMABAD — The U.S. has started using the land route through Pakistan to pull American military equipment out of Afghanistan as it draws down its troops in the country, U.S. and Pakistani officials said Monday.

Google’s First Nexus 4 Commercial Highlights Google Now During Grammys

While my wife and I were busy watching Once Upon a Time and The Walking Dead last night, it seems everyone else was watching The Grammys. Because of that, it seems we missed out on a commercial for the Nexus 4 that was everyone crowing about it this morning.

Google’s Nexus 4 commercial focused entirely on Google Now, which was introduced as a direct rival to Apple’s Siri. It also marked the first time an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean-powered device was featured in a commercial, giving those who don’t have the latest Android OS and don’t follow tech blogs a glimpse into what’s possible nowadays. Star Destroyer Cake Will Crush Your Rebel Diet

Pew, pew, pew, pew! This Star Destroyer cake will fly over your birthday presents and tractor beam them into it’s hanger bay like so many Rebel ships. And you won’t even care – since this cake is complete awesomeness. It even lights up.
star destroyer cake
Lorenzo Wood, who has to be the best parent ever, made this Imperial Star Destroyer birthday cake for his son Alexander. This cake sits on a custom base Lorenzo made that has light up windows and even thruster flare effects.  The detail is super nice, and the lights certainly beat crummy old candles, right?

Great job Lorenzo. I’m surprised he didn’t rig an escape pod that shoots a cupcake shaped capsule onto your plate. Star Destroyer or diet destroyer?

Australian Parliament summons Apple, Microsoft, Adobe to justify higher prices

Australian parliament summons Apple, Microsoft, Adobe to justify higher prices

Had we been wild and spontaneous enough to buy a MacBook Air in Australia in 2011, we’d have been looking at a 15 percent premium over the US price. According to MacRumors, throwing some Adobe software into our antipodean shopping cart would have pushed that disparity even higher — to as much as to 75 percent. Which is why the Australian Parliament has been investigating the way tech giants price their goods in that country, and why it has now formally summoned Apple, Microsoft and Adobe to come over and account for themselves in Canberra on March 22nd. Whether price differences are due to higher costs of taxes and warranties, as Apple has privately suggested in the past (see More Coverage), or whether there are more dubious reasons, this pile of laundry is about to get aired.

Texas Instruments brings sci-fi tech to life with DLP (hands-on video)

Texas Instruments brings scifi tech to life with DLP handson video

We’ve come across a number of DLP-based pico projectors over the years and while these products are getting smaller, brighter and higher resolution, it’s the integration with other devices that’s really captured our imagination. Samsung’s Galaxy Beam, which we reviewed last year, merges a 15-lumen nHD (640×360) DLP-based pico projector with a Galaxy S Advance. More recently at CES 2013, Texas Instruments announced its new Tilt & Roll Pixel chip architecture and demoed a handful of other DLP-equipped products live on our stage, including 3M’s Streaming Projector and Smart Devices’ U7 tablet.

The company recently invited us to play with some of these devices and to show us other applications in areas such as 3D printing, 3D scanning, optical research, medical imaging and even automotive. Some of this DLP-equipped tech, like the Interactive Center Console, shows where we’re headed in the near future — other products, like Christie’s VeinViewer Flex, exist today but remind us of something right out of science-fiction. Take a look at our galleries below, then join us after the break for our hands-on video and more info on these devices.

HTC One Render Leaked To Give Us a Glimpse At Sense 5

HTC One Render Leaked To Give Us a Glimpse At Sense 5The reveal of the HTC One, or HTC M7 if you didn’t catch the possible name change late last week, has been gaining some steam the last few weeks leading up to its assumed reveal during HTC’s press event next week. It looks like we won’t have to wait until next week’s reveal as a render of the HTC One looks to have made its way to the Web earlier this morning.

The source of the leak was from EvLeaks, who has been known to leak Android info in the past and whose information is often correct. The image was originally posted to Flickr listed as the “HTC One” within its EXIF data, which if you had any doubts of its name change in the past, that little nugget should convince you without any hesitation.

We caught a glimpse of the HTC One’s housing a few weeks ago and both the leaked housing and the render leaked today seem showcase the same device. Although today’s leak also offers a glimpse into the device’s Sense 5.0 as it looks like it’ll have more of a grid-style interface.

Scientists want help naming Pluto’s newly-discovered moons

Ever since scientists determined Pluto as no longer an official planet in our solar system, we frankly started to forget about the tiny rock floating around outside of our solar system. However, scientists are making the dwarf planet relevant again, and they now need our help to name Pluto’s fourth and fifth moons, which were just recently-discovered.

A website called “Pluto Rocks” is looking to gain the public’s interest in space by allowing people the opportunity to vote on certain names for Pluto’s moons. There’s 12 name candidates to vote on, some of which are “Hercules,” “Styx,” and “Orpheus.” Voting ends at noon ET on Monday, February 25, so you have a little bit of time to get your vote in. Plus, you can vote once per day in order to raise the chances of your choice winning.

The two new moons discovered orbiting around Pluto were were found during a detailed analysis of data captured from the Hubble Space Telescope. One was discovered in 2011, and the other was discovered last year. The moons are actually very tiny, measuring only 15 to 20 miles (20 to 30 kilometers) across. NASA plans to get a better look at the moons when the New Horizons probe plans to fly past Pluto in 2015.

After the vote is over, the teams that discovered the moons will choose two names to submit to the International Astronomical Union, and will announce the names of the moons after their formal approval, which will most likely be sometime in April. We may also see more moons around Pluto being discovered once the New Horizons probe flys by. The discovery teams even said that they wouldn’t be surprised if they discovered several more moons.
