Get a ball’s-eye view with camera in football

Do you really have enough camera angles when you watch a football game? Come on, you want more.

Feed your desire to be omnipresent with the wacky BallCam. It puts a camera inside the spinning football.

You’d think that would make you toss that mix of pizza, hotdogs, and beer in your stomach, but boffins at Carnegie Mellon University and Japan’s University of Electro-Communications have made it a rather pleasant viewing experience.

CMU researcher Kris Kitani and UEM’s Kodai Horita co-authored a paper on how algorithms in their prototype football can recognize footage of the ground as it spins at 600 rpm.

Nokia Lumia 720 And Lumia 520 Priced And Dated In The UK

Nokia Lumia 720 And Lumia 520 Priced And Dated In The UKUK retailer Clove did not shy away from two of Nokia’s latest starlets, namely the Nokia Lumia 720 and the Nokia Lumia 520, which will see Windows Phone 8 devices finally come with a far more affordable price tag compared to the insanely priced Lumia 920 flagship device. It seems that Clove has announced that you can pick up either one of two of these handsets later this coming April 1st, and we did check that this is no early April Fool’s prank being announced more than a month in advance.

The Nokia Lumia 720 will definitely be the looker among the two, sporting a sleek body that measures just 9mm thin, coupled with interchangeable covers for that added touch of personalization, and a smartphone camera which is touted to offer a wide f/1.9 aperture shooter which we hope will be able to deliver some of the more admirable results even in low light conditions. Both the Nokia Lumia 720 and Lumia 520 were announced officially at Mobile World Congress this year, and should be making their way to your country pretty soon, too.

Huawei MediaQ M31 Media Streamer Introduced As Samsung Homesync Rival

[MWC 2013] At this year’s MWC, Samsung unveiled its impressive HomeSync, which is a media server powered by Android Jelly Bean. Not to be outdone, Huawei also took the opportunity to announce its media streamer that is being introduced to compete against Samsung’s HomeSync.

The Huawei MediaQ M31 is another Android Jelly Bean-powered media streamer that offers a more compact look when compared to the Samsung HomeSync as it measures 65mm x 65mm x 14mm. Android-powered devices will be able to share photos, stream videos and games to the MediaQ M310, as long as they’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

As for its specs, the MediaQ M31 is powered by a quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage space, Wi-Fi, two HDMI ports (one in, one out), microUSB, a 3-in-1 SPDIF/3.5mm/Mic mono port and two USB ports. The MediaQ M31 will also allow you to connect PC and NAS drives located on your network to it, making streaming content available on other machines on your network easy.

Archos G9 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Updated Canceled

Archos G9 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Updated CanceledNow here is one bit of news that is not going to make you smile all over, especially if you happen to own the Archos G9 series of tablets. There is one very good reason for that, considering how folks who picked up the Archos G9 range of tablets have been waiting since 2011 for the latest version of the Android operating system, but it seems that these will remain running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for a long, long time to come, considering how Archos has decided to hold back the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update from the Archos G9 series.

A quick recap for those who are wondering what kind of tablets that the Archos G9 series were. First of all, you will find a TI OMAP 4 processor underneath the hood, with full compatibility with the Google Play Store, and Android 3.0 Honeycomb right out of the box, although the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update was introduced later on. It seems that this in-house decision was arrived despite spending a fair number of months analyzing and testing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on the Archos G9 tablets, but without much success.

Effing Typeface Makes the Alphabet Crass and Vulgar (NSFW)

Designer Alex Merto’s Effing Typeface is so effing unusual that I can’t help but be impressed by his creativity. His font is so overtly pervy that it’s enough to make me cringe at certain letters, but even I have to admit that he does a good job at staying within the confines of his extremely vulgar theme.

effing 1
The Effing Typeface redefines the alphabet, where each letter doesn’t stand a chance against his determination to dirty them up. A isn’t so adorable now, unless that’s a baby’s bottom (which I don’t think it is.) B could be beautiful, but let’s not go to C, because that’s just plain nasty. And while most of the images are immediately recognizable there are definitely a few that I’m not too familiar with – which is probably a good thing.

Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), it doesn’t look like the Effing Typeface is available for download or purchase online at this point.

All previous Chromebooks have been unapologetically utilitarian — cheaply priced, cheaply built, and a bit crude. But the Pixel is different than all the rest.

Yota Devices Becomes Qualcomm Licensee, Which Should Help Its Chances Of Going Global

yotaphones

Yota Devices, the Russian company that has nerds like me excited with its combo e-ink/LCD display smartphone designs, today announced at MWC that it has entered into a software licensing agreement with Qualcomm to help it bring LTE-capable smartphones, modems and routers to market. Yota becomes the first Qualcomm software licensee in Russia with the deal, and for Qualcomm, it means securing a partner in a key target area in terms of future mobile market growth.

“Russia is strategically important to us as we expect strong growth in the number of 3G smartphones over the next two years,” Qualcomme Europe President and Senior VP of QTI Enrico Salvatori is quoted as saying in a release announcing the news. As a hardware company, Yota Devices already has a lot of expertise under its belt from building modems and routers, including its own self-branded designs starting in 2010. The arrangement with Qualcomm will help them work directly with QTI at every stage of the design process of new devices, which will help the Russian firm better compete on a global scale with established OEM handset and mobile device manufacturers.

Yota announced earlier this month that it will begin mass producing its innovative e-ink phone in Signapore, with commercial launch planned first for Russia by the second half of this year, and then expanding to Asian markets. The YotaPhone features an e-ink display on the back of the handset, which can show relatively static and notifications info while sipping power, allowing a user to only turn on the more power-hungry LCD screen on the front when they need to view video, for instance, or browse the web. The YotaPhone is powered by a 28nm Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

With Qualcomm’s backing, Yota improves its chances of becoming a global contender in the smartphone market. The firm has made waves with its first smartphone design, but now it has to ship the device before we get a better idea of just how much demand there is out there for a dual-splay handset.
