Bird Hitches Ride On Unsuspecting Car (VIDEO)

Who knew pigeons could be so lazy?

Youtube user “lilkobe4,” who was on his way home from work at the time, recently captured footage of a bird hitching a ride on the hood of his car.

The pigeon hangs on for a surprisingly long time — at least longer than this car-surfing bird — and even makes it to the highway.

Infinity Blade’s future cut short: Epic drops Impossible Studios

Over at Epic Gamers there’s been an announcement by its founder that the studio formerly known as Impossible Studios will be closed from this point forward. This is the developer umbrella under which the Apple “game of choice” title “Infinity Blade” lived up until now, with the next title in this series “Infinity Blade: Dungeons” now stopped in development indefinitely. The future of the current duo of Infinity Blade games has not yet been commented on.

This announcement was made today that the project known as Impossible Studios has ultimately failed. This project was, for those of you that do not know, a collective of developers formerly known as Big Huge Games. This Big Huge Games has for the past year been working with Epic and here in early February, 2013, they’ve been effectively shuttered.

The developers working with what’s been over the past year “Impossible Studios” will be given 3 months of severance pay and a rather rare opportunity. This opportunity, according to Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney, will be “to form a new company with the Impossible Studios name and the awesome Impossibear logo.” While that’s not unique in this sort of situation, it’s certainly kind of Epic who otherwise stand the chance of being misunderstood as a bit evil corporation in this situation.

It’s also a bit unclear at the moment who will own the rights to Infinity Blade as it was a game being created by Big Huge Games before Epic took in the team to form Impossible Studios. Given the fact that this game was showcased by Apple with the introduction of the iPad 3 (aka The New iPad), there is a bit more at stake here than a simple game title. All that code is out there somewhere!

Report: Samsung Galaxy 8.0 Will Be Available In Three Variations

We know Samsung is planning on releasing an 8-inch version of its Samsung Galaxy Note, which will act as a smaller version of its Galaxy Note 10.1. We’ve even seen some leaked photos of the Galaxy Note 8.0, but today, we’re hearing potential customers may have a number of options to consider when purchasing the purchasing the 8-inch tablet.

No – you won’t be able to purchase your Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 in Hot Rod Red or Peppermint Pink. Instead, the variations we could expect are the GT-N5100 (Wi-Fi + 3G), GT-N5110 (Wi-Fi only), and GT-N5105 (Wi-Fi + 3G + LTE) with each of these planning to be released in Europe, although we’re sure a U.S. release is planned, too.

We expect Samsung to announce its Galaxy Note 8.0 some time during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. Judging by previous leaks, we could see it running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and feature a 1280 x 800 resolution, an S Pen stylus, quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, microSD card slot and a 4,600mAh battery.

John Kerry: Syria’s Violence Has Obama Administration ‘Deeply Distressed’

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday that the United States is evaluating new options to halt Syria’s civil war, but he refused to weigh into administration debates over whether to arm the rebels fighting President Bashar Assad’s regime.

In his first news conference as secretary, Kerry said the Obama administration was looking at the crisis anew and hoping to find a diplomatic solution. But he sidestepped specifically addressing a question over providing military assistance to the anti-Assad opposition.

Leviathan Movie Trailer Is Gritty, Intense (VIDEO)

While it isn’t that hard to conjure up images of massive ships, giant nets and scenes from “Deadliest Catch,” few people have intimate knowledge of the commercial fishing industry. Enter the new documentary “Leviathan,” which has been described by the New York Times as a “radical work” due to its “immersive cinematic experience.”

Directors Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Verena Paravel filmed the movie while aboard a commercial fishing trawler. What stunned us most about the trailer (embedded below) is the audio, which sounds both disruptive and powerful. “Leviathan” will be in select theaters starting March 1. We’re guessing it might make you second guess your fish consumption.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering puts Watson to use to aid cancer treatment decisions

Memorial SloanKettering puts Watson to use to aid cancer treatment decisions

We heard almost a year ago that Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center had turned to IBM’s Watson as a tool to help doctors provide the best cancer treatment recommendations, and it looks like those plans are now starting to be put into practice. IBM, along with WellPoint, Inc. and Memorial Sloan-Kettering, have today announced what they describe as the “first commercially developed Watson-based cognitive computing breakthroughs.” More specifically, they’ve developed a system that allows Waston to draw on a wealth of medical information and quickly provide evidence-based treatment recommendations to doctors.

And we do mean a wealth of information; as IBM explains, Watson has spent the last year digesting more than 600,000 pieces of medical evidence and two million pages of text from 42 medical journals, and it has the ability to parse some 1.5 million patient records covering decades of cancer treatment history. That all takes the form of two separate “Watson-based” products to start with, one of which IBM expects to be used by more 1,600 providers by the end of this year. You can find more details on those at the source links, and get a more general overview of the project in the video after the break from IBM.
