Professor Dons Blackberry Z10 Costume While Conducting Lecture

Not too long ago the folks at Crackberry were running a contest in which participants would state the things they would do and how far they were willing to go in order to win a Blackberry Z10. One participant by the name of Chris Vigna said that he’d be willing to dress up as a Z10 and teach his class about the virtues of Blackberry 10, and sure enough he did and has uploaded a photo of him doing just that! Chris is a lecturer at the University of Waterloo and teaches the subject of Kinesiology. It’s a pretty fun video and it’s nice to see that not all lecturers are as uptight as many would make them out to be. We have to wonder if perhaps his costume might have been a tad too distracting, but at the same time it looks like Blackberry managed to get themselves some free PR, especially in the sea of iOS and Android devices.

Gamer Auctions Off Entire Collection For $550,000

Gamer Auctions Off Entire Collection For $550,000If any of you guys have $550,000 to spare, feel free to donate it to us…just kidding! However if you do have $550,000 to spare and if you consider yourself to be a huge gaming aficionado of all games old and new, it seems that one particularly insane eBay auction has recently been spotted where the seller is auctioning off his entire collection of video games for half a million bucks! So what are we talking about here? For starters there are 6,850 games in total, with the majority (save for 70 games) in their boxes, 330 consoles, 307 of which are in their boxes, 220 controllers and 185 accessories. Supposedly some of these games are pretty rare as well, but since we’re not really hardcore gamers we’re finding it a bit hard to pay so much for old video games.

The bad news is that if you are hoping to pick a couple of games off the seller to add to your own collection, you’re out of luck as the seller has stated that the games will be sold as a package instead of piecemeal. In any case you can view the auction on eBay here and while we doubt many of you will be willing to drop $550,000, hopefully some of the photos of the old games and consoles will be able to rekindle some fond memories.

Fan Made Nokia Lumia 920 Is Impressive

NOKIA LUMIA 920 from Phong Luong on Vimeo.

With the Nokia Lumia 920 currently being the pride and joy of the Finnish company, it is refreshing to see that there are fans of the device who are equally as thrilled as its creator. A group of students have managed to throw together a fan made video of the Nokia Lumia 920, extolling some of its virtues in what looks like a pretty professional looking video! To be honest had we not known it was fan made, chances are we would have thought that it was commissioned by Nokia themselves. In any case if you’ve got a couple of minutes to spare, perhaps you might want to check the video out. After that if the video has managed to inspire you to get your hands on the device, be sure to check out our review. In the meantime how are you loving your Nokia Lumia 920 so far?

HP tells Chinese factories to stop raiding schools for cheap labor

Image

We know that HP’s Chinese sub-contractors enjoy a spot of opera on the production line. What’s always been harder to determine though, is who those workers are and what employment rights they have. In an effort to preempt the sort of headlines that have afflicted other brands, HP has issued new guidelines to its Chinese partners — including Foxconn — designed to limit the use of students and temporary personnel and give those people more control over their hours.

Students often seek work during vacations, but high schools close to factories have also been known to pressure their pupils into taking on shifts during bouts of heavy demand — even if it’s to the detriment of their studies. That won’t do for a global manufacturer that needs to be seen as education friendly, so from now on “interns” will only be accepted for work that tallies with their course area, and the School Administrator will just have to find his kickbacks elsewhere.

Image of Sony NEX-3n digital camera leaks

Sony is currently having a very difficult time in just about every market it participates in. The company has posted its eighth consecutive quarterly loss as demand for its game consoles, TVs, smartphones, and digital cameras decline. Sony recently sold its New York headquarters for $1.1 billion in an attempt to post a profit for its current fiscal year.

While Sony is fighting continued losses, the company is still moving forward with new products. Rumors continue to swirl that the company will be unveiling the PlayStation 4 on February 20. Some reports indicate that along with the unveiling of the new game console, Sony will also roll out new digital cameras. An alleged image of one of the new digital cameras will be shown at that event has now surfaced.

The camera is the NEX-3n and it is one of the interchangeable lens compact cameras that Sony has been offering the NEX series for a long time now. The source of the leaked image suggests that the new camera will use the same 16-megapixel image sensor used in the NEX-F3. One of the major reported differences between the two cameras is that the 3n has a zoom control button for automatically zooming attached lenses.

The new digital camera is tipped to be able to electrically drive the 16-50 mm PZ lens and a newly announced 18-200 mm PZ lens. No other specifications for the camera are known this time. There is apparently another rumor going around that this new digital camera and others may not be announced until sometime in April.

European Publishers Council wants Google to pay for media use region-wide

European Publishers Council wants Google to pay for media use continentwide

Google may have already agreed to fund French publishing efforts, but the European Publishers Council’s director, Francisco Pinto Balsemao, doesn’t think the search giant offered enough of an olive branch. He believes Google and similar content aggregators should compensate publishers across Europe, as they’re reportedly profiting from ads sold against content that’s ultimately available for free. He didn’t give a ballpark figure or explain just what represents compensation-worthy circumstances. Balsemao’s statements don’t amount to an order, whatever the intentions — Google doesn’t have to worry just yet. When the EPC lead has the weight of 26 major content providers behind him, however, Google can’t dismiss his words as daydreaming.

T-Mobile roadmap surfaces showing new Nokia Flame 4G smartphone

If you’re a big fan of Nokia smartphones on the T-Mobile network, a screenshot showing up revealing a roadmap for the carrier. The roadmap shows the smartphone called the Nokia Flame 4G with the date of April 24. The device is believed to be a Windows Phone 8 smartphone.

flame-4g

We don’t know a lot about the hardware inside the smartphone at this time, but there were some rumors of a Nokia smartphone of the same name that made the rounds in 2012. Rumors at the time claimed that the Flame was a low-end device. A low-end device from Nokia would make sense considering the company has a difficult time competing in the high-end of the smartphone market.

Other specifications for the Flame that were tipped in the rumors last year included a four-inch screen, 512 MB of RAM, and a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The device was also said to include a five-megapixel camera and have 4 GB of internal storage. The smartphone is supposed to have a microSD card slot for expanding storage.

Considering that none of those features are particularly appealing, the expectation is that this will be a very inexpensive device. While there is no indication of price, if this low-end device could be offered for free or at a very low price it could win some users to the Windows Phone 8 platform. It might also make for an interesting pre-paid smartphone.
