Source claims iPhone 5S and 6 have landed at Chinese suppliers

Rumors of the next-generation iPhone have been swirling for a while. According to the rumors, we could see two different new iPhone models this year and possibly a third. Rumors continue to point to an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and an iPhone Math (or iPhone+). Naturally, Apple is offering no official comment leaving speculation and Chinese manufacturer sources to stoke the fires of geek lust.

The latest rumor that has surfaced this week comes from a post on a Chinese blog. According to the poster, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 have shown up Apple suppliers in China. The post was made to Chinese website Sina Tech where the user Old Yao claims that his friend at a supplier has seen both models. Yes, my best friends, cousins, boyfriend, knows this guy that says the iPhone 5S is in production. Insert grain of salt here.

Anyhow, Old Yao’s buddy says that his source of the supplier has seen both models and says that the iPhone 5S resembles the current iPhone 5 and the iPhone 6 is thinner, longer, and wider. Analysts have previously speculated that Apple would launch an iPhone 5S in June or July.

The expectation is that the iPhone 5S will be very similar to the current iPhone 5 with a few improvements. One of the improvements tipped is a faster Apple A7 processor. It would be highly irregular for Apple to launch two iPhone models in the same year, yet that’s what some expect with the larger screen version coming later in the year according to rumors.

Progressive Change Campaign Committee Expands Anti-Mitch McConnell Advertising

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee said Friday it would expand advertising attacking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for his resistance to gun control, signaling that the Kentucky senator’s 2014 re-election will meet heavy resistance on the airwaves.

The new purchase of more than $15,000 in advertising adds to an ongoing $27,700 campaign for ads that will air in Kentucky. The ads will run during Saturday’s basketball game featuring the Louisville Cardinals and Notre Dame, during the Sunday political talk shows and during President Barack Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday. The ads also will air on Washington cable television during the game and the State of the Union address.

The expansion follows Karl Rove’s American Crossroads’ purchase of $10,000 in online advertising Wednesday targeting actress Ashley Judd, who has suggested she may challenge McConnell.

Sony: PS4’s main selling point will be ‘new playing options, not improved hardware specs’

As Sony Computer Entertainment warms up its blue lighting and double-checks its playlist for February 20th, one unnamed SCE official says that the PlayStation 4 will act as more of a home entertainment hub than what we’ve seen in the past. They added, according to the Nikkei, that the main selling point won’t be the rumored eight-core AMD64 CPU or other hardware specs, but how it opens up new styles of play — something Nintendo is also focusing on. Sony is going to push the new console as a home entertainment “nerve center,” with a focus on the hardware’s ability to connect and share to mobile devices — the rival that’s pulling gamers away from traditional consoles. Edge had previously mentioned the possibility of a dedicated share button on the next-gen controller, though that remains a product of the rumor mill at the moment. No discussion on any Gaikai-powered cloud gaming just yet, but following its unveiling later this month, the report states that the new PlayStation should launch before the end of the year. A bit of a shame, then, that it’s still only February.

Voters pull the Monopoly iron out of the fire

As far as board games go, it’s hard to get more classic than Monopoly. I’m sure most of us have spent many hours playing the board game over the years. The game has changed slightly and some iterations have gone from paper money to credit cards and such, but at its core it’s the same game of dominating your friends in the real estate market. Hasbro recently let fans of the game vote on which of the iconic, silver game pieces to toss from the game.

I don’t know about you, but growing up starting game of Monopoly always involved the initial brawl to determine which game piece you used. Everyone wanted to be the car while no one wanted the lame shoe or iron. Not long ago Hasbro allowed users to vote on which of these game pieces to remove from the set and what to replace it with.

That boring and maligned iron was the piece that voters tossed from the game. The piece that replaced it was a kitty. The fact that voters chose a to replace the outgoing iron with the cat is no surprise giving the popularity of cat memes and videos on the Internet. While the cat was eventually chosen with 31% of the total vote, it wasn’t the only option. Other options voters could Butchoose included a robot, helicopter, diamond ring, and a guitar.

In the voting to see which game pieces continued with the set, the Scotty dog received 29% of the. The voting was also close to decide which piece would be ousted from the game with the iron only receiving 8% of the vote to save the piece and the shoe and wheelbarrow pieces not far behind the iron. Monopoly will now include a racecar, thimble, top hat, battleship, and the cat. Versions of the game with the new token will be available later this year.

Nissan unveils 2014 GT-R Track Edition

In addition to being an avid card guy, I’m also an avid amateur road racer. I’ve spent a lot of time over the years on the racetrack and at your typical track day, the vehicles that show up to race are impressively varied. I’ve spent time on the track running against everything from Porsche 911 GT3s to Spec Miatas, Mustangs and Camaros. I’ve also spent a good bit of time on track with various Nissan GT-Rs.

The Nissan GT-R might be a big and heavy car, but box stock it’s capable of putting down some very impressive times on a road course. Nissan knows that there is a very dedicated cadre of GT-R road racers out there and for those lucky enough to have the bank account to support it the automaker has announced the 2014 Nissan GT-R Track Edition.

The car will be very limited edition with only 150 being produced. There’s not a lot on the outside of the vehicle to set it apart from its more street-focused counterparts. On the outside car has a large hood bulge, enlarged central intake, and front fenders with something called aero blades. The car does get a new front spoiler with carbon fiber air ducts and a dry carbon fiber rear spoiler for improved downforce at speed.

The car will be available in five colors including deep blue pearl, jet black, solid red, gun metallic, and pearl white. What’s likely the most easily identifiable differentiator between the Track Edition and normal GT-Rs is on the inside. The Track Edition will have no rear seats, instead having rather cheap looking quilted cloth in place of the rear seats. Under the hood of the car does get different fuel injectors to emphasize torque response and to provide better acceleration. The Track Edition also gets baffles in the oil pan to keep the engine oil where it needs to be under high cornering loads. The car delivers 545 hp and peak torque of 463 pound-feet.

As you would expect with a Track Edition, the car has special suspension including Bilstein DampTronic shock absorbers with higher spring rates. The brakes for the car are also refined and the car gets new forged lightweight wheels with ultrahigh performance run-flat tires. The car will be available at some Nissan dealerships in May 2013 in the limited edition run of 150 units at an undisclosed price.

Nokia 520 and 720 given the nod in Indonesia, could be a pair of new Lumias

Nokia 520 and 720 given the nod in Indonesia, could be a pair of new Lumias

Nokia’s already got the Lumia 620, 820 and 920 in its hand, but could it be going for a running flush? That’s the question we find ourselves asking, after a filing from Indonesia’s POSTEL, a regulatory body much like the FCC in the US, declares that a Nokia “520 / RM-914” and “720 / RM-885” have successfully completed testing. The Lumia title doesn’t appear in the database, but it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to believe they could be unannounced Windows Phone 8 devices — and successors to the 510 and 710 — given the familiar naming convention. That’s really all we have to go on right now, but with MWC drawing ever closer, is this just coincidence, or does the Finnish company have a couple more Lumias tucked up its sleeve?

Iraq: Bombings Kill 31, Wound Dozens

BAGHDAD — Car bombs struck two outdoor markets in Shiite areas of Iraq on Friday, killing at least 31 people and wounding dozens in the bloodiest day in nearly a month, as minority Sunnis staged mass anti-government protests in a sign of mounting sectarian tensions.

Tens of thousands of Sunni protesters rallied in five cities against Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a Shiite accused of monopolizing power. Sunnis also complain of official discrimination.

Porsche celebrates 50 years of the 911

Of all the sports cars in the world, the Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic. The car has had the same basic shape for 50 years and sports car fans know at a glance that the 911 is coming their way even if they don’t know what year model the car is. There are some significant differences between 911 models, but the car is definitely one of the most iconic sports cars the world.

911p

One of the interesting things about Porsche and its 911 is that the car has evolved over time getting arguably better with each iteration. Porsche is now celebrating its 50th anniversary of the iconic 911. Porsche says that over 820,000 911s have been built making it one of the most successful sports cars in the world. There have been seven generations of the rear-engine four-seat sports car.

The 911 also has a long and storied race history with approximately 2/3 of all 30,000 Porsche racing victories coming behind the wheel of the 911. Racing is very important to Porsche and the 911 specifically since many of its features for the road were developed on the racetrack. To celebrate the 50th anniversary Porsche is going to be sending a 1967 911 on a world tour.

Over the course of 2013, the car will travel to five different continents where it will be put on display at high-profile automotive events such as Pebble Beach in California and Goodwood in the UK. The Porsche 911 launched in 1963, in 1973, Porsche introduced the G-Series 911, and the 964 version launched in 1988. In 1993, Porsche launched the last of its air-cooled 911 models internally known as the 993. Water-cool 911′s debuted in 1997 with the 996. 2004 saw the Porsche 997 debut and the latest generation of the Porsche 911 is known internally as the 991.
