John Stamos Cast In ‘I Am Victor’ For NBC And More Pilot News

Uncle Jesse may have landed another starring role, thanks to NBC.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Stamos has been cast as the lead in new drama pilot “I Am Victor,” where he’ll play Los Angeles’ most sought-after divorce attorney, Victor Port, a charismatic man who is unapologetically blunt and has an original perspective on relationships.

The role has been compared to Hugh Laurie’s “House,” and the script comes courtesy of “The West Wing’s” Mark Goffman. Stamos currently recurs on another NBC project, the Ryan Murphy/Ali Adler comedy “The New Normal.”

Melissa McCarthy: Los Angeles ‘Has Turned Me Into A 90-Year-Old Woman’

Story comes courtesy of Los Angeles Magazine.

By Nancy Miller

I moved to Los Angeles from New York in 1992. I had never been here before. I just kind of showed up. I didn’t have a car and had about $150. My best friend, José, was nice enough to let me share his studio apartment in Santa Monica, which was literally a lean-to—I’m sure it’s been demolished by now. We weren’t in a romantic relationship, but we shared the same full-size bed, which was wedged inside the kitchen area, for almost a year. What’s insane is that we thought nothing of it. I thought everything was great. My older sister Margie had more sense. She came from Illinois to visit me, and since there was nowhere for her to sleep, the three of us now had to share the same bed. In the morning she sat bolt upright and shouted, “This is not OK!” and I was like, What’s her problem?

Michelle Obama And Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Evolution Of Mom Dancing’ (VIDEO)

If Jimmy Fallon had put on a pink sweater and a wig and filmed “Evolution of Mom Dancing” alone, it would have been enough. But, no, he went ahead and paired up with Michelle Obama, in the name of encouraging parents everywhere to get up and get moving with their kids for her Let’s Move campaign. They did all the signature mom moves and named them things like “Just The Hands Part Of ‘All The Single Ladies'” and “The ‘Where’s Your Father?’ (Get Him Back Here!)”. Then, FLOTUS went solo for an epic finale.

In other words, this clip is glorious.

ZTE exec: Grand S won’t carry a grand price, at least in China

ZTE exec Grand S won't carry a grand price, at least in China

A cursory look at the ZTE Grand S might leave you worrying that it will fetch quite the premium for that 5-inch screen, LTE and quad-core performance. Not so, according to mobile division lead He Shiyou. He estimates that the smartphone’s price in mainland China will hover between ¥3,000 to ¥3,500 ($481 to $561), depending on market conditions — a reasonable bargain for a high-end model expected to ship before the first quarter of the year is out. We’re just left wondering whether the value-minded pricing will hold if and when the Grand S goes on a world tour.

Google reportedly to launch free unlimited music streaming service

Google is looking into creating its own music streaming service, according to the folks over at the Financial Times. The service would offer free unlimited streaming, and would be in direct competition with similar services, such as Spotify. The service would be supported by ads, but word has it that an ad-free subscription version might also be available.

music

Google already offers its own music download store in the United States and various locations across Europe, and so the launch of its own streaming service would give it a leg up on its competitors, including Apple and Amazon, neither of which offer a streaming service. No information about what the subscription rates could be was provided.

According to the Times, Google is currently in talks with “big” music labels about the service. Such an endeavor will allow it to diversify its income, which presently comes primarily from advertising. The service will give users access to millions of tracks, and will follow in line with its plans to add a for-pay subscription to YouTube.

The launch of this music service is said to be impending, but no timeline or estimate as given. Google has not said anything official about the service, declining to comment when asked. There’s also no word on whether the streaming service will only be available in the United States, or whether it will be available elsewhere as well.

Marian Wright Edelman: What Killed President Kennedy and Trayvon Martin?

February 26 will mark one year since 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was killed by a gun wielded by self-appointed neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman after he saw Trayvon walking home from a 7-Eleven with a bag of Skittles and bottle of Arizona iced tea.

Black children, youths, and families know first-hand that the killing of Black children by gun violence is not new but a relentlessly unreported and under-reported plague that has been disproportionately snuffing out Black child lives for a very long time. Fifteen percent of children and teens are Black but 45 percent of all children and youths killed by guns in 2010 were Black. Black boys 15 to 19 years old were 28 times more likely than White boys the same age to be killed in a gun homicide.

Shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote that it was time for our nation to do some soul-searching, and while the question “Who killed President Kennedy?” was important, answering the question “What killed President Kennedy?” was even more critical. Dr. King believed the answer was that “our late President was assassinated by a morally inclement climate”: “It is a climate filled with heavy torrents of false accusation, jostling winds of hatred, and raging storms of violence. It is a climate where men cannot disagree without being disagreeable, and where they express dissent through violence and murder. It is the same climate that murdered Medgar Evers in Mississippi and six innocent Negro children in Birmingham, Alabama.” Dr. King further noted that the undercurrents of hatred and violence that made up this morally inclement climate were fueled by our cultural embrace of guns: “By our readiness to allow arms to be purchased at will and fired at whim, by allowing our movie and television screens to teach our children that the hero is one who masters the art of shooting and the technique of killing, by allowing all these developments, we have created an atmosphere in which violence and hatred have become popular pastimes.”
