R2-D2 Heels Are The Geek Shoes You’ve Been Looking For

R2 D2 Heels Are The Geek Shoes You’ve Been Looking ForIf you happen to be a lady who absolutely loves your collection of shoes more than the number of handbags at home, and also have a penchant for all things geek, then you would definitely fall head over heels (pardon the pun) with what Mikeasaurus has posted on his Instructables page – a pair of custom-made R2-D2 Mary Jane pumps.

Yes sir, the world’s cutest droid has just gotten cuter, and who knows, he might be short and stout, but he sure as heck has a way with the ladies, starting with Princess Amidala all the way to her daughter, Leia, and beyond. Heck, there is even a blinking red LED thrown into the mix so that everyone would get a better idea on just what this pair of custom-made footwear is all about with but a single glance. I wonder how much would a pair sell if it were to be manufactured on a large scale…

Mark Zuckerberg awarded CEO of the Year Crunchie, Larry Page is runner-up

At the 6th annual Crunchies, Mark Zuckerberg has been awarded “CEO of the Year”, beating out several other big names in the field, including runner-up Larry Page of Google. Zuckerberg has comes a long way in a short time, taking the idea of Facebook generated during his college years and making it into something that has had a large and lasting impact on both the techsphere and world as a whole.

The event took place at the Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, where 2500 people attended. Other contenders for the award included Twitter’s Dick Costolo, Yahoo!’s Marissa Mayer, and Evernote’s Phil Libin. The event was also streamed online, where a much larger audience watched. John Oliver, writer for The Daily Show, served as host.

The award has received a mixed response, with some feeling that Zuckerberg is well-deserving, having created a company that has had an undeniable impact on people and how they interact with each other through the digital medium. Others have been critical of the award, stating that Facebook had a rocky year and the award would have been better placed in different hands.

Facebook recently posted its Q4 2012 financial report, showing revenue that beat expectations but low profits. Still, the company has been making some big changes, and the number of users remains strong. What do you think of the award? Did Zuckerberg deserve it, or should it have gone to a different CEO? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

‘Scandal’: Mellie Has One Last Play To Convince Fitz Not To Divorce Her (VIDEO)

Mellie made one last desperate play to keep Fitz by her side on “Scandal.” After he’d declared that he was intent on divorcing her — despite her being eight months pregnant — Cyrus tried everything to get him to change his mind. But this is a Fitz post-shooting. He’d realized there was no time to wast anymore, so he wanted out.

Cyrus left it in Mellie’s hands, saying he didn’t know what to do. He had his hands pretty full with Hollis Doyle anyway. Olivia was certain Hollis had been behind the assassination, so Cyrus put out a hit on him. At the last minute, Olivia’s team learned that it wasn’t Hollis, but the hit was already in motion. Will Hollis die? He ended the episode in an elevator with his would-be assassin.

The person who put out the hit on the president remains unknown for now as well, but that revelation is likely coming soon. As for Mellie, she realized that Fitz and she had never been closer than when they were delivering their first two babies. So her hail mary play was to induce labor and force Fitz to come running to her side.

Drones To Watch Over US Highways

Drones To Watch Over US HighwaysWhen we talk about drones, most of us would most probably think about the military sort, where they swoop in on enemy territory, sometimes letting go of their payload to make sure that the enemy is killed – without having to send a single soldier to the battlefield. Well, a weapon of war would also come in handy during times of peace, as you can see with this drone from the Georgia Institute of Technology. In fact, it is said that drones could eventually assist human workers safeguard a whopping 4 million miles of U.S. highways that connect the entire country. These drones will do the “heavy lifting” of inspecting bridges and roads, while performing a survey of land using laser mapping. Heck, when the situation calls for it, the drone can even alert officials to traffic jams or accidents.

According to Javier Irizarry, director of the CONECTech Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology, “Drones could keep workers safer because they won’t be going into traffic or hanging off a bridge. It would help with physical limitations of the human when doing this kind of work. We’re going to look at the different divisions that [DOT] has and see how they do things like surveying, safety monitoring or using traffic cameras. Maybe they could be using drone technology for a similar purpose.”

NYU synthesizes crystals with lifelike behavior under light

NYU synthesizes crystals with lifelike behavior under light video

Scientists have long surmised that inorganic life is possible. New York University hasn’t created any at this stage, but it just produced an uncannily close imitation through a recent experiment. When exposing hematite particles (iron and oxygen in a polymer) to specific wavelengths of blue light, researchers got the particles to form crystals that metabolize and move together like a flock. If it weren’t for the lack of reproduction, the crystals would technically qualify as life — and one upcoming test will trade mobility for that self-replication. Accordingly, NYU sees the crystals not just as having possible uses for electronics, but also as illustrating that a finer line might exist between living creatures and synthetic objects. Whether or not the university ever meets all three conditions for life at once, we may have to reset our expectations for what chemicals can do when they get together.

‘The Vampire Diaries’: The Gang Puts Their Plan To Kill Kol Into Motion (VIDEO)

The good guys scored a big one on this week’s “The Vampire Diaries,” but they left a lot of plates spinning in the air to do it. It took a lot of doing, and a lot of pain, but Jeremy did kill Kol. That was the endgame of the game they played, but in doing so they incurred the wrath of Klaus.

Bonnie managed to get him locked into the living room of their house, but that spell will only last about two days. If they don’t find that cure for vampirism by then, there will be serious hell to pay as no one is strong enough to handle Klaus when he’s angry.

The other wild card is Rebekah. After figuring out that Stefan was playing her for the dagger needed to kill Kol, she gave it up willingly. Further, she told Stefan that she was in for finding a cure. She wanted all those normal things she’d been denied by turning immortal all those years ago.
