The Aeropress is a cult coffee maker that is absolutely adored by its devotees. In fact, there’s an annual international competition to see who can make the best cup of coffee using an Aeropress. (This year it’s in Melbourne, Australia.) Coffee snobs love the Aeropress because it is perfect for experimentation and has a superfast brew and extraction time. Other folks just like it because it’s cheap and simple to use. More »
This robotic bat wing was developed by Wayne Enterprises – I mean Brown University. Because you need a wing if you want to build a bat. In fact, you need two. Right now, it is just a wing, but with this wing they can learn more about the aerodynamics of bat wings and how bat flight works.
The wing isn’t identical to the natural wing of the lesser dog-faced bat that it is based on, but close enough for studying how they work.Check out the video to see it in action.
Whatever mad creation they intend to spring on the world, it will have bat wings and probably suck our blood. Thankfully, they haven’t gotten that far yet. They can put it on a real bat later just for laughs. Or maybe a rat. Or an octopus. That would be horrifying.

It looks like this week’s unveiling of the PlayStation 4 caught one company by surprise and are deciding to unveil their new console earlier than expected. According to a handful of developers and industry professionals, including a Sony official, it’s said that the Redmond-based company was caught “off-guard” by the PS4 announcement and is currently scrambling to get the Xbox 720 revealed earlier than expected.
We expected Microsoft to unveil the Xbox 720 during E3 in June, but now it’s said that the company will announce its next-generation gaming console at its own media event sometime in early April, where they’ll have the chance to take as much time as they want to show off the new console without any attention being taken away by other E3 events.
In fact, Ustechs, which is a partner of Microsoft’s and has worked with the company on previous media events such as their press conference at E3 last year, has registered the domain name XboxEvent.com, which could be used to promote Microsoft’s rumored April event, and act as a central hub for the event.
Of course, this is all speculation, but Sony believes that they have ruffled some feathers over in Redmond, Washington. While the console wars have always been around, it looks like 2013 will be host to one of the biggest console wars we may ever see. The PlayStation 4 will be available to the public in time for the holiday season this year, and we can expect the same from Microsoft.

Insert Coin semifinalist: Hodu is a ‘zero failure’ physical therapy hardware / software combo
Posted in: Today's Chili
Hodu borrows its name from the Korean word for “walnut,” a reference to the culture’s use of the nut as an exercise tool in traditional medicine. The barbell-shaped device is a “zero failure” physical therapy tool, aimed at rewarding patients for even the slightest level of feedback. There are on-board pressure sensors and accelerometers for detecting activity and a series of colored LEDs that light up based on feedback levels. The team behind Hodu is also working on proprietary software to help log patients’ squeezing and rotational progress.
After the break is a video that should give you a bit of a better idea of precisely what Hodu is capable of.

The Chromebook Pixel from Google is a thing of beauty, although whether it is relevant to the market or not is another question altogether. One thing we do know is this – someone on the Chromebook Pixel team must have been a real videogame fan, having thrown in an Easter egg that will actually activate a cool light show for those who are in the know. Basically, the Konami code, when tapped out using the Chromebook Pixel’s directional keys, will see the LED strip blink in a wild pattern of red, green, blue, yellow, purple and white lights.
Just in case you have been living under a rock for the better part of the past two decades and still have no idea on what the Konami code is, basically just tap up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right, followed by B, then A, and you’re good to go. The LED strip blinking show is depicted in the still as shown above. I wonder how many people, when they see their friend’s Chromebook Pixel, would proceed with the Konami code Easter egg first before checking out other aspects of the Chromebook afterwards.

We’ve seen quadrocopters do some amazing things over the years as they’ve played the entire James Bond theme song, can fly autonomously with the help of the Kinect and even fulfill the dreams of a dead cat by taking him on a little joy ride. The latest quadrocopter exercise Flying Machine Arena has captured for our viewing pleasure shows them performing some extremely impressive pole acrobatics.
Throwing around a stick probably wouldn’t be considered that big of a deal to us humans, but to have quadrocopters performing these acrobatics feats, especially when you consider they do it with pinpoint accuracy, then we know you’ll probably be impressed too.
Unfortunately, we don’t see any serious juggling as the two quadrocopters featured in this video don’t throw around their pole to one another. Instead, one quadrocopter tosses a pole to the other, the the second quadrocopter catching it. Still, this is pretty impressive when you think how it was achieved.

HTC One Syncs From iPhone Backup
Posted in: Today's ChiliAre you the only one who thinks that the recently introduced HTC One, when flipped over its back, does seem to resemble that of the iPhone 5 from Apple? Perhaps, but assuming you have been an iOS user for a fair number of years now, and in some sort of sorcery did HTC manage to sway your opinion to jump aboard the Android bandwagon with the HTC One, then you can take comfort in knowing that the migration process is not going to be that painful, especially with the latest version of the HTC Sync Manager that is said to deliver support for iPhone backups.
Yes sir, the spanking new Sync Manager that will accompany the HTC One is capable of processing a backup of a user’s iPhone, mining that file for all the relevant data and information within, before transferring it to the appropriate fields in your new Android-powered flagship device. Media, calendar entries, and even saved text messages will also be able to make the transition successfully, making platform migration between the two less painful.

The first two Motorola Droid RAZR handsets from Verizon will soon be on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system update, and they are the RAZR XT912 that rolled out all the way back in November 2011, and the RAZR MAXX that was introduced to the world in January last year. Motorola claims that both the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX will be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update officially sometime before the first quarter of 2013 is over, which means owners of either device do not have too long more to wait, one month plus tops.
Do bear in mind that technologically speaking, both the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX are old men, and have retired from the scene as you can no longer purchase either from Verizon via online channels, as you can only settle for the new RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD. Having said that, some of the other older Motorola devices which might receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean include the Droid Bionic, Droid 4, and the Xoom LTE tablet.

The iPhone comes with a bunch of apps you never use. Some of them are poorly implemented. Others are lacking important features. How many of you still remember the existence of the HTC EVO Design 4G? Yeah, that is what I thought, that was not a particularly memorable handset, and it did not come with its fair share of fanfare, which is pretty “normal” considering it is a HTC device, and we all know that HTC has not been the most innovative Android-powered smartphone company in the past year or so. Well, the HTC EVO Design 4G is a device that straddles the space between the EVO 3D and EVO 4G LTE, so it is nice to see that HTC has not forgotten about it, introducing a new OTA (Over The Air) update for its software version to be bumped up to 4.02.651.2.
Officially speaking, this new software version update will see hotspot improvements when it is on the GSM network, improved messaging application ‘loading’ time, as well as the Sprint Connections Optimizer. Sprint claims you are already able to perform manual checks for the update, or wait until you are notified on or after 2/26.
