iPad 5 Out This Q3 (Rumor)

iPad 5 Out This Q3 (Rumor)What do you think of Apple’s fight in the tablet market? Sure, the iPad is still king of the hill where total number of tablets sold and used are concerned, but this does not mean that Cupertino should rest on their laurels. There have been whispers of a higher resolution iPad mini in the works, but what about the existing iPad with Retina Display? According to a Taiwan-based research firm, they claim that Apple’s fifth-generation iPad is not too far away, with a debut set to happen sometime in the third quarter of the year, where it will boast of a rather extensive overhaul which is said to set alight hearts once again to Apple’s flagship 9.7-inch tablet.

The report mentioned, “Firstly, for the improvement on product design itself, the next generation of iPad will apply the thin GF2 touch module of the same level as iPad mini and use the narrow bezel panel design to solve the issue of larger volume, thickness, and weight that have been criticized to gain a better balance for consumers in mobility and visual experiences.” Do you think the next generation iPad will be a total game changer and is your appetite for it whet already?

Verizon Pantech Perception Hits The FCC

Verizon Pantech Perception Hits The FCCPantech introduced their first smartphone that has an HD touchscreen in the US just last month, in the form of the Pantech Discover for AT&T. Well, it seems that the smartphone company intends to gain a larger footprint in the lower-midrange handset market without breaking the bank with yet another variant of the Pantech Discover, coming in the form of the Pantech Perception for Verizon Wireless. Needless to say, it will also be priced to please, and it the Pantech Perception has already arrived at the FCC, gaining approval in the process – meaning, it should soon be ready for public purchase.

The FCC did snap photos of the Pantech Perception from various angles, and the overall build quality does seem to lean more towards the high end side of things. There were no Verizon branding spotted in the FCC photos, but chances are pretty high that this will change when the Pantech Perception is finally released. We do expect to see such Verizon livery located above the screen, and the back area should see it stamped near the 4G LTE logo. Rumored hardware specifications of the Pantech Perception consist of a 720p HD touchscreen, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and perhaps it will arrive before the end of next month.

Additional Sony Xperia SP Details Revealed

Additional Sony Xperia SP Details RevealedThe Sony Xperia SP first captured our imagination earlier in the month, and at that point in time, the hardware specifications available to us were as scarce as hair on detective Kojak’s head. However, it is a good thing that there are still some tech ninjas lying around, otherwise how else could additional information concerning the Sony Xperia SP leak out? Apart from knowing that the Sony Xperia SP will be powered by a Snapdragon S4 processor, the looming shadow of Mobile World Congress that is set to happen early next week is reminder that Sony Mobile could very well use that platform to announce a slew of new rumored models, including the Sony Xperia SP.

Other than the dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the Sony Xperia SP is also tipped to be accompanied by the Adreno 320 graphics chipset, sporting aluminum construction along its edges, complete with a plastic back and transparent, customizable notification bar that is strategically located at the bottom. Speculations abound that the Sony Xperia SP will also feature a 4.6-inch 720p display, an 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera, and 8GB of internal flash memory which can be further expanded via a microSD memory card. Is this the next smartphone upgrade for you?

Twitter ratchets up phishing protection by adopting DMARC standard

Twitter ratchets up phishing protection by adopting DMARC standard

Phishing emails often pose as being sent by major league sites rather than princes from far-flung countries, but Twitter’s implemented a new measure to stamp out phonies that borrow its name. Costolo and Co. announced that, earlier this month, they began leveraging a tech called DMARC that establishes a way for email providers to authenticate senders and reject messages penned by impostors. While the DMARC specification does need support from e-mail services, outfits including AOL (which happens to be our parent company), Gmail, Hotmail / Outlook and Yahoo already make use of it. According to Twitter, it’s now “extremely unlikely” that the majority of their users will receive emails masquerading as being sent from a Twitter.com address. We’re sorry to disappoint, but it looks like you’ll have to get your fix of foreign lottery notices from somewhere else.

The Vampire Diaries’: Elena Comes To Terms With Jeremy’s Death, But Will It Cost Her Humanity? (VIDEO)

No one would deny that Elena Gilbert has lost more than any one person should have to take throughout the run of “The Vampire Diaries” so far, including her own humanity. But the loss of her brother, Jeremy, proved too much. She spent much of the episode in denial that he was gone, until finally the enormity of it sunk in. To say she snapped is a bit of an understatement.

Elena made the decision to burn the house down with Jeremy inside of it. There was simply too much pain in those walls for her and she never wanted them to surround her again. But it was the pain inside of her that was killing her.

Stefan pushed Damon to use his sire bond to help Elena with her grief, but he didn’t anticipate that Damon would tell her to simply turn it off. Turn off all of those human emotions. Just like that, her face went from grieving to stone. She still, however, determined to burn the house down, and that’s what she did.

North Korea to switch on 3G network for foreigners by March 1

By March 1, foreigners in North Korea will be able to access the Internet via a 3G mobile network. This is achieved by using a SIM card that is available for purchase for a lowish fee, but is unique to visitors. Those who live in North Korea are limited in their access to mobile services, and still won’t have access to the World Wide Web. The network will be provided by Koryolink.

north korea

The service is set to launch by March 1, though it could happen earlier. This follows a change in North Korean law not too long ago that allows visitors to bring their own smartphones into the nation so that they can be used with the carrier’s SIM card. This is something that was never before allowed, and provides visitors with a level of connectivity with the outside world that has never existed in the northern Korean nation before.

The SIM cards are available at Koryolink retail stores and at the airport, priced at $70USD. The call rate is reported by the Associated Press as being 5 Euros per minute to the United States. Not surprisingly, calls to South Korea are not allowed. The hefty price tags will no doubt prevent travelers from using their cell phone as they would elsewhere, but does provide a necessary service to visitors, giving an (expensive) way to contact home.

In addition, users will be able to purchase a per-month mobile broadband plan via the service, using the SIM card in their mobile data device (USB modems will be supported). The cost of the monthly plan has not been released yet, however, but we’re guessing it’ll be pretty high if the per-minute rate is any indication.

Samsung Series 7 Chronos trickles into US stores

DNP Samsung Series 7 Chronos trickles into US stores

After whetting our appetite at CES, Samsung’s updated Series 7 Chronos is slowly squeaking its way into US retailers. Spotted at Best Buy for $1,200, this 21mm dynamo packs a 2.4GHz Intel Core i7 3635QM CPU and an AMD Radeon HD 8870M GPU along with a 15.6-inch touchscreen. While this lean, mean, Windows 8 machine’s streamlined design and spec sheet are impressive, such adornment comes at a price. Absent from the Chronos’ fine engineering is room for an optical drive, so DVD and Blu-ray enthusiasts be warned. However, should this caveat not apply to you, then by all means you have our blessings to check out Sammy’s new up-and-comer.

[Thanks, Noah]

‘Parks & Recreation’: After Several Hiccups, Ben And Leslie Tie The Knot (VIDEO)

In the first of two episodes of “Parks & Recreation,” the action picked up from last week. Ben and Leslie abruptly decided to get married that night, right after the benefit. That left only a few hours to pull everything together, but this is a team that can get things done. And they did.

If only Leslie’s rival on the city council hadn’t been such a drunken dirtbag that Ron had to knock him out — with one punch — everything would have been perfect. Instead, Leslie refused to have the ceremony without Ron, who was in jail. And so, she thought it was too late once they lost the venue.

That’s when her team rallied together to give her a great surprise. She took Ron back to the office. He gave her a touching speech about how much he cares for her and then offered her his arm. They walked into the office where they’d become a family, so what better place for Ben and Leslie to become a couple.
