Spamhaus Hit With ‘Largest Publicly Announced DDoS Attack’ Ever, Affecting Internet Users Worldwide
Posted in: Today's ChiliLONDON (AP) — An Internet watchdog group responsible for keeping ads for counterfeit Viagra and bogus weight-loss pills out of inboxes around the world has been hit by a huge cyberattack, a crushing electronic onslaught that one expert said had already had ripple effects across the Web.
Spam-fighting organization Spamhaus said Wednesday that it had been buffeted by a massive denial-of-service attack since mid-March, apparently from groups angry at being blacklisted by the Geneva-based group.
“It is a small miracle that we’re still online,” Spamhaus researcher Vincent Hanna said in an interview.
A new report commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy on blending hydrogen into natural gas pipelines – an idea being explored in Germany – suggests it could be a worthwhile strategy to pursue
Methane Emissions From Fracking Face Increased Scrutiny With New Baseline Testing
Posted in: Today's ChiliFrom EarthTechling’s Beth Buczynski:
Anti-fracking activists in New York State have conducted one of the first methane baseline assessments on an area that will soon be home to a natural gas compressor station. It’s hoped that by establishing a baseline measurement of ambient methane, residents will be able to prove fracking’s negative effects on air and water.
All drinking water is contaminated, but one thing it shouldn’t be is flammable. Unfortunately that’s often exactly what happens when Big Gas comes to town. Gas companies deny culpability by claiming that high levels of methane were present before they arrived. The baseline test, conducted by GasSafetyUSA in conjunction with Damascus Citizens for Sustainability, hopes to expose fracking’s true impact.

Best Steakhouses In The U.S.
Posted in: Today's ChiliRegulars don’t need a menu at Peter Luger, the Michelin-starred chophouse in Brooklyn, where not much has changed since 1887–except the newly hip neighborhood.
While the constancy of that dry-aged porterhouse and old-school vibe is comforting, the past decade has ushered in an equally worthy breed of steakhouses that are more stylish in the dining room and more inventive in the kitchen.

North Korea Marine Landing Photoshop: AFP Pulls Photo, Cites Evidence Of Tampering
Posted in: Today's ChiliNorth Korea’s rhetoric might be getting increasingly bellicose, but it’s now being undercut by what might be a Photoshop gaffe.
The Agence France Presse recently released a photo from North Korean state media that appears to depict hovercraft at a beach on the country’s east coast and marines during a training exercise on March 25.
The Atlantic Wire’s Alan Taylor stumbled across the image while researching a story about North Korea’s recent war threats and brought it to the attention of AFP, claiming that “at least two, possibly three hovercraft appear to have been pasted into the scene.”

When BlackBerry officially launched its BlackBerry 10 platform along with its BlackBerry Z10 & Q10, the company’s VP of global alliances and business development Martyn Mallick stated 40% of all BlackBerry 10 applications were ports of Android applications. After nearly two months of BlackBerry 10 being available, Mallick is now saying that number has been cut in half to 20%.
Mallick spoke with AllThingsD recently on why exactly BlackBerry decided to choose to port Android applications rather than have its developers build BlackBerry 10 optimized apps from the start. “We give [developers] a very nice on-ramp to get onto the platform.” Mallick said. “Our users deserve to have great content. If [porting Android apps] is the fastest way we can get some of that content, that’s great.” (more…)

Just how badly did Travis Alexander abuse Jodi Arias, if at all? And to what extend did his bad behavior contribute to his own death at the hands of his estranged girlfriend?
These questions come into the spotlight at the Arizona courtroom where Arias faces a possible death sentence, as the testimony resumes of domestic violence expert Alyce LaViolette.
LaViolette took the stand in the afternoon Monday, after forensic psychologist Richard Samuels concluded his 6th day of testimony, answering questions about various forms of abuse in relationships.
