Disneyland Awards Man $8,000 After Horrific ‘It’s A Small World’ Experience

LOS ANGELES — An attorney says a disabled man was awarded $8,000 by Disneyland after the “It’s A Small World” ride broke, stranding him for a half hour while the theme song played continuously.

Lawyer David Geffen says Jose Martinez didn’t medically stabilize for three hours after the ride broke down in 2009.

Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said the Anaheim theme park believes it provided appropriate assistance during the incident, and is disappointed that the court did not fully agree.

OUYA partners with MakerBot to bring DIY 3D-printed cases to gamers

OUYA gaming consoles may already be set to launch starting tomorrow, but that isn’t stopping the company from adding more features. OUYA and MakerBot have announced a partnership that will see the release of the 3D design files for the console’s case. The template and the specs for the OUYA’s case has been made readily available, which means that anyone with a MakerBot 3D printer will be able to make their own case for the gaming console.

You can download what they’re calling the ” “OUYA MakerBot 3D Printing Development Kit” from MakerBot’s Thingiverse website, and then get started with crafting your very own OUYA shell. This dev kit will allow anyone to print cases, and users can add their own patterns and colors to the cases, making them unique and giving them a little personality.

The custom OUYA cases can be printed using PLA plastic on the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, or if you’re a more experience 3D-printing enthusiast, you can use the more-robust ABS plastic on a MakerBot Replicator 2X Experimental 3D Printer. To say the least, this takes open source to a completely new level.

While the OUYA will begin shipping tomorrow, only Kickstarter backers will receive their units. The general public will be able to grab their own OUYA console starting in June, and units will be available at various retail stores, as well as on Amazon and OUYA’s website for $99, which isn’t a bad price considering what the little box can do.

Dreamfone Runs Firefox OS

Mozilla is well known for their Firefox browser, but what about their Firefox mobile operating system? Surely with Windows Phone solidifying its position in the highly competitive mobile operating system market, a relatively new player like Mozilla might just find it rather challenging to break onto the scene convincingly. Well, perhaps the video above might just change your perspective on things, as Mozilla recently demonstrated their Firefox OS on an engineering sample of the Dreamfone, which is a low-end smartphone that can run the Firefox OS.

Apparently, Mozilla will target the entry level smartphone market only, especially devices that will not cost more than a Benjamin, which should be a rather big one, with the number of emerging markets around. The Dreamfone that you see in the video above will boast of an ARM Cortex A5 chip that chugs along at 1GHz. Hopefully, Mozilla will be able to ensure that their Firefox OS runs HTML5 and Javascript applications well without running into bugs, and initial impressions have been promising, although it cannot be avoided that there are some lag times in certain visual transitions. Future optimizations ought to weed those out.

Internet Slows Down After History’s Biggest Cyber Attack

Internet Slows Down After History’s Biggest Cyber AttackIs it possible to experience a “traffic jam” on the anecdotal information superhighway? The simple answer, yes! I noticed it around 9 hours ago, but did not give too much thought into it, thinking that my local ISP’s underwater cable somewhere is experiencing issues as normal, but it seems that there is more than meets the eye. The Internet has apparently slowed down due to what security experts have deemed to be the biggest cyber-attack ever experienced in the short history of the Internet.

It seems that a particular row that sparked off being a spam-fighting group and hosting firm resulted in retaliation attacks that of course, affected the Internet in a negative manner, including impacting popular services such as Netflix. Experts have this albatross around their neck that it could potentially escalate to a level that disrupts banking and email systems. So far, five national cyber-police-forces are looking into these attacks.

Spamhaus has been identified as one of the two groups, as the London and Geneva based group is known to be a non-profit organisation who intends to assist email providers filter out spam and other unwanted content. They recently blocked servers maintained by Cyberbunker, a Dutch web host who claims that it has the right to host anything except child pornography and terrorism-related material. Cyberbunker saw Spamhaus as abusing its position, and this is where the tiff started, much to the detriment of everyone else. Hopefully the DDoS attacks against one another will cease so that the world can get on with our normal lives.

The Wolverine International Trailer revealed: a future in Japan

It’s time drop a couple of claws into the first full-length trailer for The Wolverine, the next chapter in the Hugh Jackman saga surrounding one of the most wild characters in the Marvel Comics universe. Here in this series of revelations (otherwise known as SPOILERS) we find Wolverine, also known as Logan, living further into the future than we’ve yet gone with Marvel on-screen thus far. We see there that his hero is offered thanks from a man whose life had been saved by Wolverine, offering him a gift for his generosity.

thewolvering

Of course with such plot elements finding their way into the trailer itself, we must assume that Wolverine’s trip to Japan happens rather early in the movie. With the man finding his love in Jean Gray lost in a crumpled photo and and reborn in the woman you Wolverine buffs might recognize, he’s brought to the land of the blood red sun where we’ll certainly be seeing some rather emotional moments. No worries though, there’ll be plenty of sword fighting to be had.

When you dive into the Wolverine story archives, you find a massively expansive timeline and versions of the truth – in the comics, that is. If you’re talking about the film series, we’ve still got a lot of questions about how everything in Logan’s life will have happened – and will happen in the future. With this movie it would appear that those with the rights to the Wolverine name have decided that he’ll survive well beyond the lives of his X-Men pals – we’re not expecting many, if any, crossovers here in this installment.

This may well make for a less-than exciting set of battles in future X-Men-centric films – at least for this particular character. What fun is it if we know he survives?

This film will be hitting theaters in July – this international trailer reveals that internationally you’ll be grabbing your seat on July 26th! Have a heart and see Wolverine chop his way to mortality courtesy of a man with a fabulous set of magical science skills this summer – and let us know how it goes!

Cyclist’s Virtual Safety Lane

Do you love cycling? If you have answered in the affirmative, then surely you would do your very best to make your travel arrangements around the rest of the bicycle-friendly public transport around town, especially when there are great distances to travel between your home and the destination of choice. Sometimes, you might have to travel in the wee hours of the morning, or late into the night, and those are dangerous times for cyclists since visibility is extremely low. Well, perhaps if you had the $39.95 Cyclist’s Virtual Safety Lane, things might brighten up for you?

The Cyclist’s Virtual Safety Lane works this way – it is mounted to your bicycle’s seat post, where it will then project a couple of 5-milliwat red lasers onto the ground, which will generate a virtual bicycle lane. This offers motorists with a visual indicator of a cyclist’s riding width, helping you visually increase the safety margin around yourself during those pre-dawn or dusk rides. Oncoming vehicles, as well as those from behind, can actually see you even with their headlights turned on, from over a mile away. The 6′-long lane will begin mid-cycle at the seat post and extends all the way behind, while another 5 more red LEDs help increase your visibility as a standard blinking taillight. The Cyclist’s Virtual Safety Lane is powered by a couple of AAA batteries.

Stinky Footboard PC Controller: Game Game Revolution

Foot-based controllers are nothing new; perhaps the most famous example would be the dance pads for Dance Dance Revolution games. Some of you may also remember Nintendo’s Power Pad, which was introduced back in the late 80s. But the soon to be released Stinky controller has one simple but very significant advantage over its predecessors: it’s much smaller.

stinky footboard pc controller

Invented by Stelulu Technologies, the Stinky is basically a directional pad for your feet. DDR pads have nine sections, but the Stinky should be more useful even if it only has four buttons because all of those buttons are within reach of your foot. It will come with a Windows program so you can configure its keys. Speaking of which, the Stinky’s buttons are Cherry MX switches, the kind used in mechanical keyboards. You’ll also be able to adjust the tension on the buttons with different removable springs.

Even if hardcore gamers are not as stoked by the Stinky, I’m sure that many disabled gamers will consider getting it as an alternative controller. As mentioned in the video the Stinky will be available July 2013 for $119 (USD), but Stelulu will also set up a Kickstarter soon where backers can snag one for as low as $89. Head to Stinky’s website for more info on the controller.

Windows Phone Outsells iOS And BlackBerry OS In Several Markets

Windows Phone Outsells iOS And BlackBerry OS In Several MarketsJust how well do you think that Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is doing at the moment? Well, we know for sure that they are not going to overtake the two 800 lbs gorillas at the moment, namely iOS and Android, but it sure as heck has a fighting chance to remain in third position, with the only real competition around being the BlackBerry 10 operating system that was introduced earlier this year alongside some of the newer BlackBerry devices. According to Microsoft’s VP of Corporate Communications, Frank Shaw, he cited a report by the IDC that stated how Windows Phone has already outsold the iPhone in seven markets, while the BlackBerry has been slain in 26 markets.

Of course, there was no mention just which of these 7 and 26 markets, respectively, were the ones with Windows Phone in front, but surely it oozes with a glimmer of hope that Windows Phone is a platform that is certainly gaining its fair share of traction among those who are tired of the iOS and Android formats?
