HTC One Has Already Received Hundreds Of Thousands Of Pre-Orders

HTC One Has Already Received Hundreds Of Thousands Of Pre OrdersWe’re sure that most of you guys have heard by now that the HTC One has been delayed, although HTC is aiming for a release before the end of April. In the meantime we have to wonder, with this delay, will phones like the Sony Xperia Z overtake the HTC One, and will Samsung’s Galaxy S4 be able to snatch some market share away, especially if both devices are released around the same time? While we have to wait for the numbers to be released, a report has suggested that in the US, there have been hundreds of thousands of pre-orders that have already been placed for the HTC One.

HTC has also gone on to state that the demand for the HTC One is the greatest they’ve ever had for one of their devices, which we guess is welcome news considering that HTC isn’t doing too well for themselves at the moment. Of course these hundreds of thousands of pre-orders could pale in comparison once the Samsung Galaxy S4 goes up for sale, but in the meantime it definitely looks good for HTC. What do you guys make of this? Anyone planning on grabbing a HTC One for themselves upon its release, or do you think the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be a more attractive option?

World’s First 3D Human Anatomy App

Tokyo based Team Lab Inc. in collaboration with Professor Kazuomi Sugamoto (Osaka University) have created ‘teamLabBody‘ the world’s first  3D Human Anatomy App / Digital Textbook which accurately reproduces the elements and joint movements of a living human body.

This project was based on research by Professor Sugamoto at Osaka University Orthopaedic Biomaterial Science Laboratory who has spent more than 10 years analysing the arrangement and movement of every single joint in a living human body. His team discovered that the joint movements of a living human body differ from those observed in donor specimens which constitute most of the orthopaedic knowledge in existing medical textbooks. Data was compiled during this research from CT and MRI scans of living humans to observe the arrangement and movement of every single joint.

teamLabBody is designed to be easily understood by the general public and also a useful reference tool for doctors when explaining concepts to their patients. It also serves as a handy guide for medical students.

The app allows users to view the human body and joint movements from any angle and magnification, while choosing to focus on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, nerves and blood vesels. Names and detailed explanations of each body part are also provided making it an interesting learning resource.

Bone motion mode (see video bellow)enables users to observe the the skeletal movement of a living human in 3D by customising the direction and speed of movement.

teamLabBody demonstrates the potential of combining medical science with 3D technology on a mass-market, user friendly application for the purpose of education. Making science into an accessible art form is already a worthy goal, but getting into such a level of detail is quite a challenge!

The app is currently available for iPad2 and newer models for US$29.99.

The Sun & Cloud Camera Needs No Batteries, Operates By Cranking It Manually

The Sun & Cloud Camera Needs No Batteries, Operates By Cranking It ManuallyThe problem with cameras is that they rely on batteries, meaning that if you don’t charge it, or bring a spare battery, you might find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having your camera die on you in the middle of the day. If you’d like to prevent that from happening, would a camera without batteries be of interest to you? While it might not necessarily be the most practical or take the best photos, the Sun & Cloud camera does have a degree of novelty value, thanks to its shape and the fact that you have to crank the mechanism by hand in order to power it.

The camera comes with a 3MP sensor and allows users to apply a variety of filters to it. It can also be charged via USB for those lazy to crank it themselves. Like we said, we doubt it will take the best photos but if you’re into lomography, basically non-conventional styles of taking photos, perhaps the Sun & Cloud camera might be worth taking a look at. It is priced at $199 and is available for purchase via AC Gears.

Apple Rumored To Be Building 4K UHD TV That Could Be Released Late 2013/Early 2014

Apple Rumored To Be Building 4K UHD TV That Could Be Released Late 2013/Early 2014We’ve all heard the rumors that Apple could be looking to build a television set of their own, with some predicting that it could even be launched later this year. While the jury is still out on that one, a new rumor has emerged, suggesting that Apple’s alleged television set could be a 4k device, meaning that it will put it in competition with UHD television sets by companies like Samsung, LG and Sony. According to the folks at Digitimes, the alleged “iTV” will sport a display resolution of 3840×2160, putting it up to the 4k UHD standard of 2160p, and will come with internet connectivity, voice and motion controls.

So where is this alleged TV? Well apparently Apple and Foxconn have been in discussion for quite a while over the mass production of the device, but Apple has been putting it off because they are still looking for a reliable panel supplier. It is speculated that LG Display could be the one to take the lead on the panel display, and the rumors are saying it might mean a late 2013 or early 2014 release. We’ll take this with a grain of salt for now, but a 4k UHD Apple TV? Apple’s products are already pretty expensive to start with, and we’d hate to think how much this would cost.

The model A the device features 256 MB of RAM while the newer model B features 512 MB. The little developer board also has a single USB 2.0 port and more. The problem some geeks who want to integrate the Pi into their projects run into is a lack of features to do the job they want.

The Raspberry Pi can be fitted with a wide array of new features via the RasPiComm extension board. The extension board adds additional ports, a real-time clock, and a five-way joystick input device. The new ports include a RS-485 port allowing for control of stepper motors and other objects. The extension board also has an RS-232 port as well as a real-time clock with a battery backup.

Other features of the board include a direct I2C connector allowing the user to directly connect a display or sensors. The five-way joystick input makes it easier to control the Raspberry Pi. All of those features are packed into a very small piggyback board requiring no additional cables. The extension board also has full API support including drivers for an OLED display, advanced stepper motor control, and a daemon mode allowing you to control the extension board via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. The extension board is available now for €43.69.

Camera Found Drifting At Sea Reunited With Owner After 6 Years

Camera Found Drifting At Sea Reunited With Owner After 6 YearsWe all know that sinking feeling when we drop our phones, tablets, cameras and whatnot, but we can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a camera in the ocean. However that’s what Lindsay Scallan did when she took her Canon PowerShot camera with her on her underwater dive off Hawaii. She attempted to look for the camera the next day, but unfortunately due to the rough seas she was unable to do so and promptly wrote it off as a loss. However it seems that the camera managed to stay afloat thanks to its waterproof housing, and drafted thousands of miles to Taiwan where it was picked up by an employee of China Airlines.

Surprisingly the memory card in the camera was intact and they managed to retrieve the photos and ultimately were able to identify its owner, Lindsay Scallan. The airline company then approach Hawaii News Now to see if they were able to get in touch with Scallan, and a friend who saw the news told her about it. The good folks at the airline company offered to fly her down to reunite her with her camera, although we expect that this is probably good PR for them as well. However as it turns out, Scallan has work commitments that she is unable to get out of, but still a pretty good story anyway, plus we have to say that the waterproof housing she used certainly lived up to its promise!

AT&T Offering Nokia Lumia 820 For 1 Cent On Contract

AT&T Offering Nokia Lumia 820 For 1 Cent On ContractMicrosoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system is a decent operating system and offers iOS and Android users a very different experience from what they are used to. However with the reputation behind iOS and the powerful hardware offered by Android devices, it is understandable that many have opted between either, forsaking Windows Phone in the meantime. However if you’re reaching the end of your contract and you were thinking about trying out a new device, perhaps the Nokia Lumia 820 could be of interest to you.

Granted it’s not the most powerful Windows Phone device right now, but it seems that AT&T has reduced the price of the handset to a mere 1 cent if you were to sign a 2-year contract with them. For those wondering, it was priced at $49.9 before on contract, and $349.99 if you were to buy it unlocked. If you’re wondering what you will be getting for your 1 cent, you can expect a 4.3” WVGA ClearBlack AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, an 8MP camera, and LTE connectivity on AT&T’s network. Not too shabby, right?
