Japan’s Industrial Robotics Situation: it’s Interesting. Seriously!

Sweet, More J-Robots! …Oh. Industrial Robots?
Okay, today will not be heroic rescue & recovery robots, nor life-changing assistive robots for the disabled and elderly. No, today we’re talking Japan’s industrial robots, and through profound statistics, talk of money, and wildly general projections for the future, we’re going to spice up this dry robot salad.
Now, industrial robots are basically super-strong, super-precise, fantastically dexterous multi-jointed arms that do pretty much …

BMW and Mini cars add iOS integration for Audible, Glympse, Rhapsody and TuneIn

Glympse to offer incar location sharing, fewer excuses for BMW and Mini drivers

BMW hasn’t been quite as aggressive in pushing smartphone app integration as American counterparts like Ford or GM, but it certainly knows how to make up for lost time: the Munich automaker just greenlit tie-ins with the iOS apps from Audible, Glympse, Rhapsody and TuneIn. Plug in a device and it will be possible to wield the apps’ respective audiobook, location sharing, subscription music and live streaming radio services from a BMW Apps-capable BMW or Mini, with an interface optimized for the center stack. Each of the developers will need to update their app to make everything click, which we’re told may take weeks. There still shouldn’t be much wait before fans of Teutonic (and British) rides can get lost while streaming favorite songs — and tell everyone just how far they went off-course.

AMD unveils game streaming platform with Radeon Sky Graphics

AMD unveils game streaming platform with Radeon Sky Graphics

AMD’s taken some time at GDC to unveil Radeon Sky Graphics cards, the backbone of its cloud platform that streams games à la OnLive to PCs, Smart TVs, tablets and mobile devices. According to the outfit, the silicon is built upon its Graphics Core Next architecture, and is powered by its RapidFire tech to provide a “highly efficient and responsive” experience. Other details regarding the initiative are sparse, but it sounds like developers and cloud gaming companies will have to enlist the hardware before gamers can reap its benefits.

Update: Joystiq’s gotten word that the Radeon Sky series includes a trio of enterprise-grade graphics cards, with the top-of-the-line Sky 900 model toting 6GB of GDDR5 memory, 3,584 stream processors and sporting a memory bandwidth of 480GB per second.

Android Key Lime Pie Could Introduce Gesture-Based User Interface

Android Key Lime Pie Could Introduce Gesture Based User InterfaceYou can more or less say that the Android mobile operating system has jumped by leaps and bounds ever since it appeared on the scene a few years ago, and with its latest iteration in the form of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, you can say that it has the iOS from Apple on the backpedal in some aspects. Whispers abound that the next version of the Android operating system will be given the nickname “Key Lime Pie”, in keeping to the tradition that each successive name of a new version of the Android platform will take on the form of a dessert, as well as a corresponding step to the next letter in the alphabet.

While cosmetic changes are to be expected, it is said that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie could very well feature gesture-based user interface options, that will certainly bode well with the new kind of gesture control from the likes of Samsung and LG on their newer flagship devices. Do you think this will raise up an entire new generation of Android fans, or is it just a potential gimmick?

Kentucky Religious Freedom Bill: Lawmakers Override Steve Beshear’s Veto

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky lawmakers have voted to override the governor’s veto of a bill intended to better protect legal claims of religious freedom.

The law will give stronger legal standing to people in court who claim the government burdened their ability to practice their religion.
