InFocus' BigTouch is a 55-inch all-in-one built for conference spaces, classrooms with large desks

Having not seen every single all-in-one PC that’s ever been released, we’ll stop short of saying the InFocus BigTouch is the largest AiO ever to grace the Earth. That said, it’s pretty damn enormous. What we have here is a 55-inch Windows 8 machine — far larger than you probably have room for on your desk — and it’s intended specifically for classrooms, conference spaces and office lobbies. Basically, any scenario where lots of people will need to see or use the computer at once. Given that, its connectivity options are perhaps more extensive than what you’ll find on a regular consumer desktop: six USB ports, two HDMI sockets and two Ethernet jacks (highly unusual, that last bit).

Other than that, this isn’t a machine for spec hunters: it will initially ship with a Core i5 Sandy Bridge processor (that’s what was available when the product was being developed) and the screen resolution tops out at 1080p, which is fairly low considering those pixels will be distributed over a 55-inch panel. The 120GB SSD, at least, should do just fine for the above uses cases — we don’t imagine folks will need to store more than that. Additionally, the BigTouch is designed to be easily serviceable, and the processor is part of Intel’s vPro family, so the system might meet IT requirements anyway. With a price of $4,999, though, we hope your company doesn’t have too many conference rooms to furnish.

Havok announces Project Anarchy, a new development engine for mobile gaming

Havok announces Project Anarchy, a new development engine for mobile gaming

Havok’s involved itself with mobile gaming for a few years and it’s now taken to this year’s GDC to announce Project Anarchy. This new cross-platform mobile dev engine will include access to its own physics, animation and AI tools — the same as those apparently used in notable series like Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed and, er, Skylanders. It will also integrate Havok’s Vision engine, adding in “game samples” and tutorials to ease mobile devs into crafting plenty of beautiful mobile games that hopefully involve less bird physics and approach something resembling our (admittedly zealous) mock-up above. We’re itching to see those beastly smartphone processors pushed to their limits.

Cut the Rope developers releasing four new games this year

Cut the Rope is one of the most popular mobile games out there, and even though it’s been a few years since it’s release, it still remains a game that people will long remember. However, the developers of the game, Zeptolab, aren’t done just yet. It turns out they’re planning on releasing four new games by the end of the year, starting with a possible Cut the Rope sequel next month.

cut-the-rope

The co-founders of Zeptolab, twin brothers Efim and Semyon Voinov, spoke with Polygon about the dev team’s upcoming plans throughout 2013 and said that out of the four games, some will be related to Cut the Rope and some won’t, but they didn’t go as far as saying what the split would be — perhaps it’ll be two-and-two or maybe just three-and-one.

The brothers also noted that while they want to release “tens or twenties of titles every year,” they want them to be good first and foremost, meaning that the development team focuses more on quality than quantity. However, Zeptolab wants to keep its focus on mobile devices for the time being, but expanding out to consoles is certainly a possibility for future titles.

Zeptolab started out with only Efim and Semyon Voinov developing Cut the Rope. The studio now has around 60 employees that span across three continents. Cut the Rope, which was released back in 2010, has seen over 300 million downloads since the game’s initial release, which definitely isn’t up there with Angry Birds, but it’s certainly still a respectable statistic.

Assassin’s Creed 4 First Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Underwater Exploration

Up until today, we’ve seen Assassin’s Creed 4 in various screenshots as well as some teaser videos showing its in-game engine, but we have yet to see any official gameplay footage. Ubisoft has finally delivered the games first official gameplay trailer, and as you would expect, it looks pretty awesome.

The gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed 4 follows Captain Edward Kenway, who is the assassin / pirate you’ll be playing as in this title. In addition to the already expected maneuvering through the world at a freerunner’s pace as well as taking down enemies with a stab here and a pistol shot there, Assassin’s Creed 4 will include underwater explorations which include some impressive visuals. The sea’s wildlife, such as sharks, will keep you on your toes and may have you rethinking about going in the water again. (more…)

Researchers discover two headed shark in the Gulf of Mexico

Back in April of 2011, a bizarre two headed shark was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico. The shark was a tiny bull shark that was discovered by fishermen in the uterus of an adult female shark near the Florida Keys. Researchers have now confirmed that this was an actual two-headed shark and not a conjoined twin.

2-head-shark

Researchers from Michigan State University have said that the two-headed shark wouldn’t have survived in the wild for long. Disgustingly, researchers from Michigan State University say that there have been reports of other sharks, specifically blue sharks, with two heads. However, this is the first time the two headed shark has been discovered among bull sharks.

Researchers investigating the bizarre shark used magnetic resonance imaging of the specimen to determine that the shark had two distinct heads, hearts, and stomachs. The remainder of the sharks body ended in a single tail. The researchers say that the condition is called axial bifurcation, and it can happen in humans as well.

The condition occurs when an embryo begins to split into two individual embryos, but stop splitting somewhere in the middle. The researchers do point out that while some people want to find a connection between the two-headed shark and the Gulf oil spill, there is no evidence to support that conclusion at this time. I lean more towards a fiendish plot by Dr. Evil to breed two headed sharks with lasers on their heads.

HTC Butterfly said to be getting a sequel, thanks to strong sales in Asia

HTC reports strong demand for Butterfly phone in Asia, says there'll be a sequel

It’s anyone’s guess how the HTC One will fare in the West. After all, quality doesn’t guarantee success. If we look across to Asia, though, we can see that the One’s counterpart in that hemisphere, the Butterfly, has already gained some traction. Supply has failed to meet demand in its Taiwanese homeland and, according to Focus Taiwan, the phone has enjoyed “brisk sales” in Japan too — at one point toppling the iPhone 5 to become KDDI‘s bestselling handset. There’s been sufficient interest, in fact, that HTC’s marketing boss Ben Ho has been quoted as promising a successor to the Butterfly, which will carry the same brand name. He didn’t say when a Butterfly II might arrive, or what new “innovations” it might deliver, but it’s an encouraging sign nonetheless.

Apple Offers Free Next-Day Shipping On All iPhone Models In U.S.

Apple Offers Free Next Day Shipping On All iPhone Models In U.S.

Let’s just say you happened to catch our coverage of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and you still think the iPhone is the smartphone for you. You could head on down to your local Apple Store or carrier store to pick one up, but in this digital age, there’s nothing quite like being able to order something from the comfort of your living room wearing only boxers. Shopping on Apple’s website would result in a lengthy wait for you to get your iPhone, but the company has improved its shipping method to offer free next-day shipping on all iPhone models in the U.S.

We’re not sure just how long Apple will be offering free next-day shipping to U.S. addresses since they have offered next-day shipping in the past during the holiday season. As of now, Apple limits the number of iPhones you can order to receive next-day shipping to two iPhones, which we’re sure is more than enough for the average iPhone user. But, if you’ve been keeping up with the iPhone rumors, it’s possible Apple wants to offer its free next-day shipping prior to the launch of an additional iPhone. This is purely speculation, but it certainly would make sense.
