Scott Walker Book: Marc Thiessen, Former Bush Speechwriter, Teaming Up With Governor (REPORT)

Nearly a year removed from surviving a recall election, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) appears ready to write a book.

The National Review reported Monday that Walker is teaming up with former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen to pen the project. A Republican familiar with the talks told the publication that Walker “wants to do more to tell his story.”

Back in June, Walker successfully deflected a wave of pro-union forces, defeating Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) by seven percentage points. His victory resonated all the way to August’s Republican National Convention, when he was serenaded by a wave of applause and cheers before speaking in Tampa, Fla.

HTC Desire P and Q smartphones revealed in promo pictures

HTC, which just recently retired its “Quietly Brilliant” slogan, has revealed its Desire P and Desire Q handsets, which we saw not too long ago in a series of rumors, via a couple promo images. Both handsets are of the budget variety and have mid-range specs across the board, but offer are a nice option for those in the market for a budget Android Jelly Bean smartphone.

HTC 1

The HTC Desire P, which you can see in the promo image above, has a 4.3-inch display with a low WVGA resolution. Inside, users will find a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Around back, there’s an 8-megapixel camera in addition to a front camera, and there’s also a microSD card slot for expanded storage, although the internal storage capacity wasn’t revealed.

The HTC Desire Q (pictured below), meanwhile, is a smaller version of the P, measuring in with a 4-inch display and reportedly the same specifications as the P. The Desire Q’s specs weren’t specified, but we do know that it’ll be available in white, black, and red. Word has it the handset will be priced at $235, which is lower than the Q’s approx. $365 USD.

HTC 2

Both handsets run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and feature Beats Audio. The Desire Q will be available in China via China Mobile, while it is believed the Desire P will be available in Taiwan first. Don’t expect the phones to make their way to the United States – at least not in the near furture. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated when more information on the handsets surfaces.

How The Heck Does This Magical Tile Board Work?

This board of tiles, or Azulejos which is a form of Portugese artwork that involves tilework, is making my brain lose its gray matter. The tile board somehow maintains the same number of tiles even when some individual tiles are removed. How did all the tiles fit in the first place? How does it still fit after getting rid of three tiles? Where is the missing square? What sorcery is this? More »

San Francisco Chronicle Paywall: The City’s Biggest Newspaper Starts Charging For Online Content

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Chronicle announced over the weekend that the paper would begin charging for a large portion of its online content by imposing a paywall.

Since it became one of the first major newspapers to stake a claim online in 1994, the Hearst-owned Chronicle has posted its content for free at the ad-supported SFGate.com. On Saturday, the paper launched the significantly less confusingly-named SFChronicle.com and has begun diverting much of its “premium” content to this new subscription-based site.

“Subscribers to the new website will find the newspaper’s unrivaled content with brilliant photos, an uncluttered format and the familiar design of the Chronicle,” wrote Chronicle President Marc Adkins in an article explaining the change. “Premium stories and columns will update and change with the news throughout the day. Subscribers also will have full access to the Chronicle’s most enduring legacy–its columnists.”
