Crytek intends to take Darksiders off THQ’s hands

Crytek is looking to reunite Darksiders with its original creators, Vigil. The company hired 35 of Vigil’s employees after the company failed to receive any bids back in THQ’s original auctions. Crytek launched a new studio in Austin, Texas called Crytek USA and housed all of the Vigil employees there. Crytek USA is currently headed by Vigil’s old co-founder, David Adams.

Crytek intends to take Darksiders off THQ

The bidding for Darksiders, as well as the other IPs in THQ’s back catalog auction, will begin on April 1st and will continue on through April 15th. THQ will then have to discuss the bids with the entities that it owes money to, and then it will decide on a primary bidder and back-up bidder for each of its IPs. THQ will then have to present the sales to the court, who will have to approve each sale. Everything is expected to finalize sometime in May.

David Adams tweeted, “Looking to buy @Darksiders IP back from #THQ. The IP belongs in the hands of its creators.” Ryan Stefanelli, the Principal Designer at Crytek USA, further confirmed that Crytek will be bidding for Darksiders’s IP, and that everyone is “excited at the prospect”. It’s still up in the air what Crytek plans on doing with the IP. It had already stated that it doesn’t plan on working on Darksiders 3, because it “doesn’t fit with our strategy”.

Nonetheless, fans, as well as the ex-Vigil staff, will be relieved that Darksiders will return home to its rightful owners. For those of you that are interested in playing Darksiders or Darksiders 2 for the PC, you can purchase the games for extremely cheap through this week’s Humble Bundle. You can pay $1 to get Darksiders, or a little over the average payment to get both games. You will also get Red Faction: Armageddon and Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Sept. 11 Cross Lawsuit Thrown Out By Judge Deborah Batts

NEW YORK — A judge has tossed out a lawsuit that sought to stop the display of a cross-shaped steel beam found among the World Trade Center’s rubble, saying the artifact could help tell the story of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

U.S. District Judge Deborah Batts in a ruling released publicly Friday rejected the arguments of American Atheists, which had sued the National September 11 Memorial & Museum’s operators in 2011 on constitutional grounds, contending that the prominent display of the cross constitutes an endorsement of Christianity, diminishing the contributions of non-Christian rescuers.

Total value of Bitcoin surpasses $1B

The total value of the P2P currency, Bitcoin, has surpassed $1 billion. On Thursday, the exchange rate for the currency surpassed $92, and there is nearly 11 million Bitcoins currently in circulation. It was only earlier this month that the value of a Bitcoin was worth $49. The currency continued to rapidly rise in value, much to the surprise of both Bitcoin users as well as analysts.

Total value of Bitcoin surpasses 1 billion dollars

Daiy Bitcoin transactions used to total about 200,000 Bitcoins a day, however now that number has increased about 50%. The growing use of Bitcoins can be attributed to more services utilizing Bitcoins as a payment currency, like WordPress, Mega, and Reddit. BitPay, one of the most popular Bitcoin payment processors, reported that in March alone, they processed $2 million worth of Bitcoin transactions, which accounts for 66% of all the transactions it managed in 2012.

One of the major drivers for the boost in Bitcoin value is due to the currency’s freedom from Government control. In Cyprus, many citizens were cut off from their bank accounts. People were only able to withdraw $300 daily from their banks, which for many isn’t enough to cover their bills and expenses. A lot of people began downloading the Bitcoin iPhone app in pursuit of a much safer, trustworthy currency free from the hands of the government.

The billion dollar milestone is a very impressive one, however, Bitcoin has yet to be seen as a viable currency to big investors. Michael Kagan, Senior Portfolio Manager at Clearbridge Investments, stated, that he doesn’t feel comfortable “getting involved with something vulnerable to being hacked or manipulated, and with no recompense if it is.” An example would be the $12,000 worth of Bitcoins stolen earlier this month by hackers.

George Heymont: Opting Out of Reality for Jesus

The act of questioning whether organized religion makes people stupid is bound to provoke a heated response. On one hand, there are people who claim to live in faith-based communities who attribute every event in their lives to God. On the other hand, there are those who are confirmed atheists.
