SS United States, Historic Ocean Liner, Faces Fundraising Dilemma In Philadelphia
Posted in: Today's ChiliPHILADELPHIA — The SS United States is sending out what may be its final distress call.
The 990-foot-long ship could be sold for scrap within two months unless the grassroots preservation group that’s working to secure a home and purpose for it can raise $500,000 immediately, the group told The Associated Press. Talks are under way with developers and investors about the ship’s long-term future, but without the emergency funding, its caretakers fear they will run out of money before a deal is inked.

MINNEAPOLIS — Nate Robinson had 22 points and 10 assists and Carlos Boozer added 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 104-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.
Luol Deng scored 17 points and Taj Gibson had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls, who were missing Joakim Noah for the second straight game because of plantar fasciitis. They still dominated the boards, 52-32, including 20 offensive rebounds.
Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) explained his switch in position on gun control during a Monday morning appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” saying he thought about the Newton, Conn., shooting and realized it could have been even worse.
“When I watched more and learned more about how he killed his mother and the rage that he brought to that school … I began to think of what could’ve happened, and not the reality but the potential,” he said, according to The Hill. “He was not going to kill 20 children, but he was going try and kill several hundred and would have if he’d had the time and the capacity.”
Casey announced in December that he would support gun control measures such as bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It was a significant switch given his longtime opposition to gun control and high rating from the National Rifle Association. The change was prompted by the shooting of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, along with the shooter’s mother, a massacre that has restarted long-dormant talks of further regulating guns.

Ellis Island Museum Unlikely To Reopen In 2013 After Severe Superstorm Sandy Damage
Posted in: Today's ChiliNEW YORK — The Ellis Island Immigration Museum, which sustained severe damage to its infrastructure from the surging waters of Superstorm Sandy, is not expected to re-open to the public this year, the National Park Service said.
The Oct. 29 storm bought water levels as high as 8 feet to Ellis Island, adjacent to the home of the Statue of Liberty, destroying boilers and electrical systems.
Internet Explorer 11 user agent makes browser look like Firefox, thumbs nose at legacy CSS hacks
Posted in: Today's ChiliSubtlety can’t always avert controversy. That leaked build of Windows Blue is a case in point: it suggests a relatively incremental update to Windows 8, yet some of its revelations are already causing quite a stir. Neowin now reports that Internet Explorer 11, as contained within the leaked build, identifies itself to host websites as “Mozilla… like Gecko.” Confusing, right? Perhaps, but it’s not really as underhand as it sounds, as you can see from the full line of code in the picture above.
The program still identifies itself (in brackets) as IE 11, but it forgoes Microsoft’s older identifier (“MSIE”) and simply describes itself as being a browser that renders HTML in a similar way to Firefox’s Gecko layout engine. Neowin speculates that the reason for this could be to start afresh: by confusing host websites with a new identifier, IE 11 might avoid having legacy CSS code thrown at it, dating back to the bad old days when web designers had to give Internet Explorer special treatment. It’s also been suggested that this could cause problems for business apps that genuinely rely on legacy CSS code — although it’s worth remembering that we’re not looking at a final release here, and none of us (ahem) are even meant to be using it.

Kids React To Grumpy Cat (VIDEO)
Posted in: Today's Chili“That’s what youtube is: kitty videos.” Out of the mouths of babes.
The Fine Bros. are back with another “Kids React” video, this time focusing on the internet’s favorite feline curmudgeon, Grumpy Cat (who we recently had in studio at HuffPost Live). The kids’ consensus: stop being so judgmental. Just because Tardar Sauce looks grumpy doesn’t mean she is.
Fav line: “It’s even surly when it licks.” Well done, kids.
General Motors is set to unveil the new 2014 Cadillac CTS during the 2013 New York Auto Show. The New York Auto Show is the next major auto show to be held in the United States. We’ve known for a while that vehicle would make its official debut at the show and GM has already offered up information on its new V-6 engine that will find its weight under the hood.
However, one major detail we didn’t know about the new CTS was exactly what the vehicle will look like on the outside. Some official photographs of the 2014 Cadillac CTS have leaked online ahead of the car’s official launch in New York. The images show a distinctive front grill and a front bumper area that has a sporty look.
The images also show what appear to be LED daytime running lights, HID headlights, and LED fog lights. The rear of the car has a small deck lid spoiler, LED tail lights, and the familiar Cadillac crest. On the inside, the car is all-new using lots of leather, real wood trim, and Alcantara along with contrasting color stitching.
There will be multiple engines available in the new Cadillac, the most powerful being Cadillac’s new twin turbo V-6 engine. We previously talked about that new V-6 in depth and it will provide the new CTS with 420 hp and 430 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac says that the CTS fitted with this engine will be able to reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and have a top speed of 170 mph. I’d wager that engine will be available in the CTS V performance version only.
