Most of the documents we send these days are digital, but when it comes to attaching the physical ones together, there’s nothing quite as helpful—and satisfyingly clicky—as a good old-fashioned stapler. The New York Times has whipped up a little ode to the device, in appreciation. And the key to staplers’ survival might lay in eye-catching design. More »
Facebook has updated its Events feature to include weather forecasts. The weather forecasts only begin to appear when the event is happening within the next 10 days, however, but its a nifty little feature that should aid when planning a get-together. When you’re creating a Facebook event, the weather forecast should appear right below the “When” section.
This new feature rolled out to both the desktop and the mobile version of Facebook. Users will be able to see the highest and lowest predicted temperatures of the day, so that they can dress accordingly. This will be perfect for outdoor events, so you’ll know in advance whether or not you’ll need to bring an umbrella, a jacket, or if you should just avoid the event altogether. The app also helps event planners know if they need to relocate or reschedule the event.
This new feature is all part of Facebook’s new renovation. It wants to make all of the information you need available from its social network. Along with the addition of weather forecasts, Facebook is set to roll out a new newsfeed to all of its users. The revamed newsfeed is much more cleaner and appealing. It expands even more on organization, and it is more integrated with certain apps.
Facebook has made a lot of changes in the past month to its service. In the near future, the service may also be implementing hashtags. The hashtags will be used in conjunction with trends and events. It will operate almost exactly like it does on Twitter. Users can click on the hashtag to see various statuses and events centered around the topic. We should be seeing Facebook’s revamped newsfeed, hashtags, and several other changes coming to Facebook within the next few weeks.

Well, it looks a little like a bomb, doesn't it?

Gadgets sometimes have alternative uses.
You can hold up a phone at a U2 concert and show that you, too, can create a religious light source.
You can use a hair dryer to bring your iPhone back to life after you’ve dropped it in the toilet.
However, I have never heard of someone attempting to pass off a golf-ball finder as a bomb detector. There again, I never thought Harvard could beat anyone at basketball.
Excitingly, there is a trial currently in progress in which a British businessman is accused of fooling the military, the police, nay, even governments themselves into buying bomb detectors that were golf-ball finders.
I cannot imagine how the two might have been confused. But the prosecution alleges that 56-year-old Jim McCormick persuaded many important people around the world that these things could spot bombs, ivory, drugs, and even bits of human bodies.
He allegedly claimed they even worked through walls, under water, and even from planes.

Beer Keg Car Bomb Diffused In Northern Ireland, IRA Splinter Group Suspected
Posted in: Today's ChiliDUBLIN — British Army experts defused a car bomb Saturday that had been abandoned on a rural roadside in Northern Ireland, a threat that is raising concerns about the region’s hosting of the G8 summit later this year.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the car contained a beer keg packed with about 60 kilograms (130 pounds) of homemade explosives. Metal kegs often have been used in the construction of Irish Republican Army-style bombs because they are easily portable and produce showers of shrapnel when detonated.

SideCar is a service that arranges a carpool between two people in an easy-to-use app. The service has been available in San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, and Brooklyn, but has now just launched in Washington D.C. The app simultaneously gets more cars off of the road while also offering passengers easy, and cheap, access to transportation.
Drivers can make quick cash by offering other users a ride, and users can avoid the high-fees of a cab with this app. Drivers can set a “suggested donation” for the ride, however passengers can choose to make a higher or lower donation depending on their generosity. The fee is pretty set in stone, so even if there is high-traffic, or a delay, you won’t have to worry about a “meter” charging you by the minute.
As for the safety concerns revolving the app, SideCar states that all drivers undergo a full background check. Drivers also have to verify that their driver’s license, insurance, and registration are current. All of the rides are tracked as well through the GPS system in the app. Many users have stated that they love the service, and that they meet interesting and nice people everyday through it.
At first, SideCar will only be available in Washington D.C. on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00PM to 3:00AM, however as soon as it becomes more popular, it will be available everyday at any hour (depending on the number of drivers available). The app is available for both Android and iOS devices. The service has received generally favorable responses, and has already facilitated over 100,000 rides.
