Raspberry Pi Runs Classic DOS Games Thanks To Emulator

Raspberry Pi Runs Classic DOS Games Thanks To EmulatorThere is nothing quite like the feeling of paying a visit to the past, and sometimes, old is gold where certain computer games are concerned. I am quite sure that some of us do think back of those PC games which we spent hours on during our formative years as a teenager, where the DOS platform proved to be rather tricky when it comes to configuring your audio setup, with IRQs, XMS and EMS memory to set and all. Who would have thought that fast forward by a couple of decades, and something as small as the Raspberry Pi is powerful enough to run a DOS emulator, which in turn will let you enjoy those old school DOS games?

Homebrew coder Pate already has experience with DOS emulators, coming up with one for the Nintendo DS in the past, and has just completed another DOS emulator for the Raspberry Pi which is based on the DS version known as rpix86. You will obviously require a Raspberry Pi in the first place, as well as some know how before jumping through the rabbit hole and going back in time with your favorite DOS games.

North Carolina Lawmakers Hope To Finally Get Around To Repealing Jim Crow Literacy Test For Voting

A group of state lawmakers in North Carolina is undertaking a new effort to eliminate a racist relic of the Jim Crow era that remains enshrined in the state constitution.

Literacy tests were popular mechanisms for disenfranchising African American voters for decades during the middle of the 20th century, until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 finally prohibited the practice. But the national legislation didn’t do anything to officially remove offending voting measures from the state books. Article VI, Section 4 of North Carolina’s constitution still reads, “Every person presenting himself for registration shall be able to read and write any section of the Constitution in the English language.”

The Institute for Southern Studies reported this week that there was a new push underway to remove the language from the document:

Jerry Buss’ Young Girlfriend, Delia Cortez, Written Into His Will, Told To ‘Keep Quiet’ (VIDEO)

Jerry Buss wrote his much-younger girlfriend, Delia Cortez, into his will, Captain Wag reports in the video above. Cortez, in her late twenties, scored a $5.5 million condo in Hawaii and his 2009 Bently, estimated to be worth about $200,000.

Cortez told TMZ that she started dating Buss years ago when she was living in Marina del Rey, Calif. and that, when the relationship got hot and heavy, he moved her to Honolulu to keep things discreet. She said he told her to “keep quiet” about the relationship.

Buss, who purchased the Lakers in 1979, left almost everything else to his family trust, overseen by his daughter and trustee Jeanie Buss, Captain Wag reports.

Pennsylvania’s Rejection Of Medicaid Expansion May Cost The State Millions: Study

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett (R) announced last month that he would reject Medicaid expansion — a key provision of President Barack Obama’s health care reform law that would have made health care available to many more of the state’s poorest residents.

A new study has found that Corbett’s decision might end up costing the state hundreds of millions of dollars.

Expanding Medicaid in Pennsylvania would have increased the annual amount of money the state receives from the federal government by around $2 billion, adding about $200 million in state revenue every year, according to a new study by the RAND Corporation, the nation’s largest independent health policy research program.

Temporarily disabling Gmail’s new compose window: here’s how

We all hate change — that’s an evolutionary fact. We’re all programmed to develop habits, and when those habits are interrupted, our bodies tend to not like that. However, change is a part of life, and eventually we adapt to various changes, but some people may not want to give them up just yet. If you don’t like Gmail’s new pop-up compose window, you can actually disable it temporarily.

gmail

It’s pretty simple to do, and it doesn’t require any hacking of any sort. Google actually includes the option to temporarily disable the new view. All you have to do is compose a new email message, in which the new pop-up window will show up, and then head down to the small arrow in the lower-right corner. A drop-down menu will appear (or in this case, a drop-up window) where you’ll select “Temporarily switch back to old compose.”

compose

Of course, this is just a temporary measure, so we’re not sure how long you’ll be able to keep the old interface before Google permanently switches it back. They unveiled the new design back in October, where Gmail users can view their inbox and browse other emails while composing a new message without having to flip back and forth. It’s definitely a neat feature, but some users may not like it.

Just yesterday, however, the search giant flipped the switch on all Gmail users and made the new pop-up compose view a default feature, meaning that it’s now officially a part of Gmail. Then again, users are still able to go back to the old view, which has us wondering if Google is really 100% confident in the new design, and since they’re only “temporarily” allowing users to switch back to the old view, the pop-up windows feature may not be as permanent as Google thinks it is. Plus, giving users the option to go back just temporarily defeats the whole purpose of allowing that option in the first place.

Boston Cops Hilariously Pose Online As Punk Rockers

A recent city noise control ordinance in Boston has cops cracking down on roving rock shows that don’t take place in formal venues. So they’re posing as punk rockers online to sniff out concert locations so they shut them down more easily. Only problem is their police work reads like an out of touch parent trying to talk to a teen about that new fangled rock and/or roll. More »

Battlefield 4 DLC Teased

Battlefield 4 DLC TeasedSo, what is it about Battlefield 4 that we know so far? Well, first we have managed to get hold of 17 minutes of spectacular gameplay footage recently, and apart from that, we do know that Battlefield 4 will give the Nintendo Wii U a miss, instead appearing on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms, in addition to plans for next generation console debuts, too. Well, here is one more bit about Battlefield 4 that will certainly have fans hanging their tongues out in excitement – it seems that the game itself will come with at least one DLC (downloadable content) sometime down the road.

There so happened to be a leaked promotional image for Battlefield 4 which was spotted, where it teased a “Drone Strike Expansion Pack” piece of DLC which will arrive alongside pre-orders. This special DLC bonus, in addition to the game, are tipped to arrive later this fall, which is still a relatively long time away if you are a rabid fan who does not rank patience high up on your list of personal virtues.
