Best Buy To Host Samsung Shops, Too

Best Buy To Host Samsung Shops, TooNow here is a new set of rumors going around the Internet, which would be Best Buy hosting a selected amount of pop-up Samsung shops within their premises. Well, I am quite sure that you have heard of the picture-in-picture feature on larger screen TVs in the past, so how about a shop-in-a-store concept? This could jolly well be what Samsung and Best Buy have in mind, especially with the Samsung Galaxy S4’s release shaping up later this April. The temporary Samsung shops will more or less look like a “store-in-a-store” concept which Apple makes use of in Best Buy branches, and there stands a very good chance to see a Galaxy S4 sample being made available for testing purposes.

The initial Best Buy stores that will host Samsung shops will be told to remove a couple of aisles which are located right next to their current mobile departments. There will be the usual slew of stuff such as custom demo stations, obviously placed Samsung signage, in addition to a bunch of other Samsung products. Will it be effective in shifting more sales figures? Only time will tell…

HP’s $169 Slate 7 tablet delayed until June, according to HP’s site (update: false alarm)

HP's $169 Slate 7 tablet delayed until June, according to HP's site (update: false alarm)

Maybe it’s that $169 price, or maybe it’s the inclusion of an honest-to-goodness memory card reader, but we know some of you can’t wait to get your mitts on HP’s new Slate 7 Android tablet. Back when it was first announced, the company indicated it’d be available by April, but it would seem that plan has changed: the product page on HP’s site is now saying the Slate won’t arrive until sometime in June. We’re not sure why there’s a delay (we’re asking for comment), but we do know this can’t be good news for HP. By June, after all, Google I/O will have come and gone, and the next-gen Nexus 7 might already be on sale.

[Thanks, jmartj]

Update: HP has confirmed that it made a mistake in listing a June 2013 arrival date on the Slate 7’s product page. In fact, the tablet is still slated (har) to arrive in April. Carry on.

GameStop: Nintendo Wii U Sales ‘Disappointing’

GameStop: Nintendo Wii U Sales DisappointingThe sales of the Nintendo Wii U have been a topic of interest for many gamers as it’s obvious the company is having some trouble getting people to pick up its “next-gen” console. With only 64,000 units sold last month, it’ll only be just a few short weeks until we hear how terribly it did in March, but GameStop’s President Tony Bartel gave us a glimpse into how exactly the console is doing in its stores.

During GameStop’s earnings call yesterday, Bartel said the Wii U had a stronger-than-expected launch as the console initially sold out across its stores. Its after-holiday sales seem to be the problem as Bartel says they’ve been “disappointing” over the last few months, but GameStop still won’t give up on the console as Bartel believes he has the reason why the Wii U has been having issues with its sales: (more…)

LG Optimus G To Get Off At The Next EOL Stop?

LG Optimus G To Get Off At The Next EOL Stop? The LG Optimus G is one smartphone that had everything going for it when it was released, but somehow, in one strange way or another, did not manage to sell in large numbers. Taking things into stock four months after its release, a mere 1 million units were sold worldwide, and this has not stopped LG from working with mobile carriers to offer the LG Optimus G Pro, leaving the LG Optimus G behind, of course.

Of course, we do know that the pace of consumer electronics move at a breakneck speed these days, but only four months on the market before being persuaded to have it replaced by a sequel? That would surely mean the LG Optimus G is not a success by any means. I mean, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been around for more than double that amount of time, and even with the Galaxy S4 announced and ready to arrive anytime soon, there is still a new color for the Galaxy S3 to be released, in amethyst, no less.

The leaked screenshot that you see above depicts an inventory spreadsheet for Sprint which shows off that the LG Optimus G is about to arrive at its EOL status (End Of Life).

Unannounced LG Device Comes Out Tops In GLBenchmark Tests

Unannounced LG Device Comes Out Tops In GLBenchmark TestsThere is the international many of mystery, so why not introduce an international phone of mystery? Right now, there are a few candidates lined up to take over that particular title, but just for this one day, let us bestow such an honor on this unannounced LG device which has managed to leave just about any other smartphone on the market right now choking on the dust left in its wake. This unknown LG device, when put through the paces on the popular GLBenchmark benchmark tests, managed to smoke the rest of the competition, and we cannot but help to wonder just what is the limit for its Snapdragon 800 chipset.

Of course, we have heard of Snapdragon 800 arriving in other smartphones before such as the Xiaomi Mi-3, and other hardware bits and pieces associated with this LG smartphone would include an Adreno 330 GPU, a Full HD resolution display, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice. The thing is, what will it be called when it arrives, and what date would that be?

If you were thinking about picking up a VIZIO notebook or PC in the near future – wait just a second! They’ve just released the full lineup in Full HD mode with touchscreen interactivity and Windows 8! Of course while some of their lineup had one or two of these features before, now you can rest easy – greatness is here for all!

IMG_3431wtmk-w1024-580x435

You’ll be seeing several different lineups here, each of them delivering the sleek metal looks and attention to detail we were so impressed by when we first reviewed one of their PCs last year (that was right before they switched over to touch!) Now you’ll want to head down to the timeline below to see all the touchscreen action and up-close-and-personal looks and touches we’ve had with these devices at CES 2013 before we go on a review rampage – make it so!

VIZIO All-in-One models

24-inch All-in-One Touch The smaller of the two options here is the first available for pre-order in Microsoft’s online store. You’ll find that this model brings on the more conservative (just by a bit!) display size complete with dual HDMI input, enhanced 2.1 audio system with subwoofer, and wireless controls – you’ll get a remote control for your entertainment bits and pieces, a multi-gesture touchpad, and a keyboard, too! Have a peek at our early review of the pre-touch iteration of the 24-inch All-in-one now! This model will sell for USD $1,279.99.

27-inch All-in-One Touch The one big difference between the 24- and 27-inch models here is the size of the display. They’ve both got the same number of inputs and outputs and all that good stuff, same accessories in the box and the same massive HD 1080p touchscreen technology at your disposal. This 27-inch model will sell for USD $1,549.99.

VIZIO Notebooks

14-inch HD+ Thin + Light Touch The smaller of the two new models we’ve got here has a 14-inch HD+ display and options for either AMD (A10 APU) or Intel (Core i7) processors. This model starts at USD $1,089.99.

15.6-inch Full HD Thin + Light Touch This is the top-of-the-line offering in laptop technology from VIZIO, bringing on Full HD on a 15.6-inch display also with the same quad-core processor options that the 14-inch model is available with: either AMD (A10 APU) or Intel (Core i7). You’ll also find this model available for pre-order now in Microsoft’s online store! This larger version will start at USD $1,189.99.

Included with each

All VIZIO machines here work with advanced Wi-Fi with 802.11ac (that’s the newest generation able to offer up to three times faster delivery of data past 802.11n.) They’ve all got 10-finger touchscreen technology up front, SRS Premium Sound HD audio systems with no less than DTS technology making it all roll right, and Microsoft Signature for Windows. With Microsoft Signature you’ve got a clean install of Windows 8 – no bloat-ware at all!

Sound like the lineup for you? Let us know if you’re planning to go all the way with VIZIO this season!

Register Your Birth Certificate Via SMS

Register Your Birth Certificate Via SMSThose of us who live in countries where access to basic and decent healthcare are taken for granted, do spare a moment for folks living in Third World Countries. For instance, UNICEF reports that around two thirds of births that occur in sub-Saharan Africa go unregistered, but one of the countries, Ivory Coast, intends to buck this particular trend with the help of mobile technology to modernize the entire process. In fact, they intend to make every single birth count, with the Môh Ni Bah project spearheading this effort.

Môh Ni Bah hopes to encourage the registration of each birth without inconveniencing the new parents to go through long distances of travel, through the simple method of registering births with mobile phones. It does not sound too illogical since folks living in villages do possess some of the latest mobile devices, and have proper working knowledge of them. Of course, there needs to be effort to check incoming data for consistency and veracity before being sent to official birth registration centres.

HP Slate 7 Quietly Delayed To June

HP Slate 7 Quietly Delayed To June

This year’s Mobile World Congress served as a launchpad for HP to announce its upcoming Slate 7 Android tablet that will be priced aggressively against the Kindle Fire and other budget-minded tablets at $169. The Slate 7 was expected to be released this April, but it looks as through your dream of owning it next month will keep being a dream as HP has quietly delayed its release to June.

Instead of making a big to do about its delay, HP updated the Slate 7′s product page to say it will be released in June.  There’s no official word from HP as to what the exact issue is that resulted in their upcoming tablet to be delayed, but we’re sure we’ll hear something from the company in due time. Hopefully its delay won’t result in less sales as some potential Android tablet customers may be looking at the next-generation Nexus 7.
