3D Printed Google Glass Helps You Be A Poser

3D Printed Google Glass Helps You Be A PoserYou know how some of us like to be at the forefront of things all the time, especially among our clique, as we want to be the standout person? Well, Google Glass looks set to be quite the niche hit among nerds as well as the technologically proficient in the months and perhaps, even years to come ahead, but does this mean it warrants you getting ahead of the official “gun” by enlisting the help of a 3D printer? New media artist Sander Veenhof and Interactive designer Klasien van de Zandschulp were seen in Amsterdam wearing what looked like Google Glass, but when probed further, these extremely realistic eyewear proved to be but 3D-printed replicas.

Of course, the level of realism must be extremely high for it to warrant such a reaction from the masses, and wearing a pair of these 3D printed fakes would give you the geek cred that you so desire, just make sure you do not take it off or lend it to anyone who wants to get an idea on how Google Glass works, as that would definitely give the game away.

Purple Samsung Galaxy S3 Spotted

Purple Samsung Galaxy S3 SpottedSure, you might think that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is old hat by now (which it is, actually, considering how the next version of the Samsung Galaxy family has already been announced earlier this month), but this does not mean there are no one else out there who would not mind owning one of these sweet puppies in a heartbeat. After all, it would be folly to rule the Samsung Galaxy S3 as an obsolete smartphone right now, as there are still some miles left in its proverbial legs.

A few days back, the world caught a glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy S3, which should not turn heads at all, but rather, what made the news was the story that this particular model of the Galaxy S3 came in a shade that was not seen before – that is, purple. Samsung has this particular tendency of naming the colors of their devices according to nature, so it makes perfect sense to see it carry an amethyst hue this time around. No idea on the exact date as to when the amethyst Galaxy S3 will arrive on Sprint, but chances are it will be sometime from the middle of next month onwards. [Product Page]

PlayStation 4 Demand To Outpace Supply, Says GameStop

PlayStation 4 Demand To Outpace Supply, Says GameStop

When the PlayStation 4 was announced, we’re sure a good majority of you went out the following day to your local GameStop to try to pre-order the console, even though no retailer has announced they’re officially taking pre-orders for it. But GameStop’s President revealed in an earnings call yesterday “nearly 900,000 members have already signed up for the PlayStation 4 First to Know List” which helps keep its customers informed on the upcoming console and it also serves as a pretty strong indicator of many people are considering pre-ordering it.

If the nearly 900,000 members is any indication, Bartel is already predicting demand for the PlayStation 4 will outpace GameStop’s supply. “Although we have been given no official numbers by Sony, we do believe that demand will far outpace the supply of this product during the launch window.” (more…)

MLB At Bat mobile app updated in time for Opening Day

MLB At Bat is the official mobile app for everything baseball during the season. The league updated the app last month for the 2013 season, but the overal layout remained the same. However, the iOS app has been updated again, coming with a slight redesign, the addition of a classic games library, and Apple Passbook support.

2013-02-22-13.24.47-580x350

The app is universal between the iPhone and iPad, but there are new features that have come exclusively to each device. The iPad version of the app now has a new video section featuring more highlights, as well as sortable batting, pitching, and fielding statistics for players. As for the iPhone version, the app gets redesigned individual team pages and an updated news section interface.

Furthermore, the app is now available for BlackBerry 10 devices. It was promised earlier in the year that the league would bring the app to BlackBerry’s new platform before Opening Day, and it looks like they’ve kept on that promise. The app is free in BlackBerry World, but as with the other apps, you’ll have to pay a subscription fee to get all of its features.

Passbook support is also now available within the iOS version of the app, allowing users to store their tickets right on their device. So far, 11 teams support Passbook, including the Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, and the Boston Red Sox. Three more teams will announce Passbook support later this year. MLB Opening Day is Sunday, March 31.

Boba Fett Stained Glass Spotted at The Church of Mandalore

If you worship Madalorian Bounty Hunters, your church needs to look good – and look good it will, with this awesome Boba Fett stained glass. Your lord and hunter Boba Fett will look amazing as light shines down upon him as if he were resurrected from his untimely demise in the Sarlacc pit.

This is the latest addition to the stained glass collection of Michael McLane, who recently created that awesome Boba Fett helmet lamp.

The picture on the left is natural lighting; on the right, artificial lighting. What does this tell us? Fett looks awesome no matter how he’s lit.I would love to see a church decked out in all stained glass panels of Star Wars characters. Now that’s a religion I can get behind.

MSI Slidebook S20 review: MSI’s flagship Windows 8 Ultrabook has a flawed design

MSI Slidebook S20 review: MSI's flagship Windows 8 Ultrabook has a flawed design

If you’ve been following our reviews of Windows 8 laptops, you know we haven’t been too kind to the slider form factor. It’s not like we set out to pan these machines, but time and again we’ve found that the propped-up display ruins the typing experience. Keep that in mind as we begin our review of the Slidebook S20, MSI’s flagship Win 8 device, priced at $1,200 in the US. It’s a bold move from a company whose bread and butter is not ultraportables, but gaming systems. In fact, the 11.6-inch S20 is the outfit’s only high-end Windows 8 Ultrabook. So the company must have quite a bit of confidence in that form factor, then, if it didn’t bother with dockable tablets or some other kind of convertible design. Could that mean the S20 has something all the others don’t?

An Ecuadorian Silicon Valley: Pipeline to the future or pipe dream?

Looking out over the site of what could one day be Latin America's Silicon Valley.

(Credit: Office of the President of Ecuador)

Editor’s note: This is the final installment of a four-part series. Read part 1, “Plotting the next Silicon Valley — you’ll never guess where;” part 2, “New Silicon Valley in the Andes: Promise and paradox;” and part 3, “Riding shotgun with the man behind an Andean Silicon Valley.”

In the previous installments of this series on Ecuador’s plan to build its own hub of research and innovation on par with the likes of Silicon Valley and South Korea’s Incheon, I’ve focused on the big dream and the big possibilities.

It’s time for a reality check to round things out.

First, let’s review the plan for Yachay, the name chosen for the Ecuadorian government’s planned “City of Knowledge” already under construction at a rural location in the country’s northern Andean highlands. It all s… [Read more]
