Jumbo Caller ID

You know that as we age, some of us do experience a “breakdown” in our body parts, that goes without saying. After all, mankind was not “built” to last, so to speak, so some of us start to require a pair of glasses, while others lose their sense of hearing (or even to the scourge of Alzheimer’s, the Long Goodbye). Good thing is, there has been medical advances which have helped stunt or arrest some of these degradations, although some like Alzheimer’s, have no clear cure in sight yet. Still, those who are suffering from poorer eyesight will be pleased to hear that there is help in the form of surgery in some cases, correction lenses, and just for today, the $24.95 Jumbo Caller ID.

Yes sir, the Jumbo Caller ID says it all, doesn’t it? It sports a bright, backlit LCD display that works as named, giving you all the nitty gritty required at a glance as to who is calling (as long as the name of the caller is entered into the database, of course) in addition to the number. It all remains whether you want to pick up the call or not. The Jumbo Caller ID will feature enough memory for up to 99 names and numbers, has a message waiting indicator, caller ID callback, and over a dozen more other functions to keep senior citizens happy. Since it comes in bi-lingual (English and Spanish) support, something tells me that this targets the Americas more than anywhere else. Powered by a quartet of AAA batteries, the Jumbo Caller ID even doubles up as an alarm clock with snooze, now how about that?

First BB10 update addresses battery life, low-light photography, third-party app performance and more

BlackBerry 10 has been out in the wild for almost a month, and today early adopters will begin receiving the first update to the new platform: version 10.0.10.85. Battery performance has been addressed, and over 60 “optimizations” should help lengthen the time between charges. Other changes of note are the “improved performance” of third-party apps, and that the camera should now produce superior low-light snaps. In-browser video playback has also been tweaked, and importing online contacts should work better, as should call logging in the BlackBerry Hub. Finally, the new software is supposed to fix issues with Gmail calendars. BlackBerry says the 150MB OTA update is available on some carriers right now, and will roll out to everyone “over the coming weeks.” Head to the source for the full changelog.

Drug Smugglers Get Creative, Builds Cannon To Launch Marijuana Over The Border

Drug Smugglers Get Creative, Builds Cannon To Launch Marijuana Over The BorderThe smuggling of illegal drugs has been going on forever. We’ve seen and heard of some pretty creative ways, such as relying on drug mules who smuggle drugs by sticking it in places where the sun don’t shine. However we can imagine that not all drug mules are reliable especially since they are people and people do make mistakes. So what can a drug syndicate do to smuggle their drugs over the Mexican border? Shoot them over in a cannon, of course! Mexican police have recently confiscated a homemade cannon that has been shooting cylinders of marijuana over a border fence into the state of California.

Placed on the bed of the truck, the cannon was made out of a plastic pipe which doubled as its shaft, while using a metal tank as its base. Then by using the compressed air from the engine of the car, it managed to create enough pressure and power to launch the drugs over the fence. Considering that the cylinders managed to pack up to 30 pounds of marijuana in them, it is safe to say that this homemade contraption certainly packs one heck of a punch! Apparently this isn’t the first time that such an incident has occurred as back in December, similar canisters were found launched over the border into Arizona.

5-Year Old Kid Racks Up Over $2,500 In In-App Purchases, Apple Promises Refund

5 Year Old Kid Racks Up Over $2,500 In In App Purchases, Apple Promises RefundI’ve never liked the freemium model simply because it usually causes gamers to spend more than they would had they bought the game outright. Unfortunately it is a model that many developers are starting to adopt, most notably in the mobile scene where games such as the recently announced Real Racing 3 are free, but in order to speed things up in the game, unlock features and etc., gamers would have to fork out additional money. It seems that in the UK, a 5-year old boy might have gone a tad overboard and has gone on a spending spree with his parents’ credit card, racking up an iTunes bill of a whopping £1,700 (~$2,555)!

In a way the parents were partly to blame as they were busy with guests when this happened. Basically the boy asked his dad for the iTunes password in order to download a free game. As you know, once a password has been entered, there is a 15 minute window in which it does not have to be entered again, and unfortunately that’s when the spending spree began. The parents initially thought it was a mistake until their bank called them to confirm the charges. The good news is that Apple has since agreed to refund the parents the money. Phew!

Gran Turismo 6 Confirmed For PlayStation 3 Release This Year

Gran Turismo 6 Confirmed For PlayStation 3 Release This YearIf you’re a fan of racing games, then the Gran Turismo franchise is one that is probably well known to you. The good news is that if you’ve been looking forward to Gran Turismo 6, a game that has been in development since 2010, at least according to Sony, you’re in luck. According to an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe SVP Michael Denny (via Silicon Republic), it seems that Gran Turismo 6 has been confirmed and will be seeing a release in 2013. Based on his comment, “Look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year, like The Last of Us, like Beyond, GT6….” It’s interesting to note that the game will be arriving on the PlayStation 3, especially since the PlayStation 4 was announced not too long ago and is pegged for a release this holiday season. Then again we wouldn’t be surprised if the PlayStation 4 would support Gran Turismo 6 anyway, so it isn’t really that big of a deal. So, any Gran Turismo fans looking to get their hands on the game later this year?

Driver’s Cell Phone Signal Booster

If there is one cardinal sin that all driver should not do, it would be to talk on your handset with one hand holding the phone, while the other controls the steering wheel. Sure, if you happen to be seated at the back seat with a chauffeur in front, by all means go ahead and yak away, but if you are at the wheel, it is time to be far more responsible with your life and the lives of others. Get a hands-free kit or a Bluetooth headset, for Pete’s sake! And if you already have that, and tend to travel to remote areas where the signal is not too great, perhaps the $159.95 Driver’s Cell Phone Signal Booster would come in handy.

As its name suggests, the Driver’s Cell Phone Signal Booster is an amplifier that claims to boost a cell phone’s reception by up to 20X whenever you are driving. It will be different from other models that boosts only 2G or 3G signals, as this puppy is far more updated, being optimized to handle 4G LTE signals for Verizon or AT&T handsets, in addition to boosting 3G and 2G signals for nearly all other U.S. carriers, now how about that? It does so by improving bi-directional signal strength in weak-signal areas, minimizing dropped calls and maximizing data speeds.

Quan all-in-one iPad accessory will add connectivity

Quan is a company that performs a lot of research, development, and experimentation in the robotics industry. Robots aren’t all the company works on though and Quan has announced that its all-in-one iPad accessory has entered the engineering phase. Previously, the project was in the conceptual phase and the changing phase marks a transition from the drawing board to the workshop.

ipad_4-580x318

Quan says that this week its engineering department began producing a working prototype of the device for testing. The all-in-one iPad accessory sounds like a device that iPad users will welcome. The company promises that the accessory will give the iPad features of a high-end laptop.

The accessory promises to add peripheral ports, the ability to connect to storage devices, an extended battery pack, speakers, keyboard, and more. All of those accessories will be packed in a single stylish and protective case. Presumably, the accessory will include USB ports for connecting other devices.

Quan notes that it has contacted manufacturers in China about initiating production of the accessory as soon as a prototype is produced. The company says that the prototype has to meet internal performance targets before being shipped to manufacturing. That means there is no indication of when we might see the all-in-one iPad accessory on the market.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag To Launch On 29th October

Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag To Launch On 29th OctoberJust yesterday Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was announced. This was hot on the heels of the leaked poster that revealed the existence of the game. According to the official announcement, Black Flag will be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U, but what about upcoming consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Microsoft’s rumored Xbox 720? Will they be getting a shot at Black Flag as well? Well thanks to the countdown page, a release date might have let out of the bag a bit earlier than expected, putting the release date for the game for the 29th of October and according to the text, it will be available for next-gen consoles as well.

Navigating to the countdown page now will just show you a page where the world premiere trailer will kick off in 4 days’ time, but we guess there was a bug earlier that allowed viewers to skip past that page to show off the release date. Fortunately for Ubisoft the trailer was not leaked, but we guess we know have a date to look forward to. Hopefully that will be the date Ubisoft will be sticking to, but we guess we will have to wait 4 days in order to confirm that, so check back with us then for the trailer and additional details.
